Having the ability to kill off characters gives you more freedom with the story, and it’s not like you have to explain why they’re back in a followup game as long as they don’t show up in the story.
I see it more a limit rather because it was meant to justify things than the other way and Actually they do need to be explain unless your not a pop culture icon fighting game like street fighter, kof? , tekken and so fort. Even nightmare geese has a given explaination unless the whole game is a dreammatch, crossover or an allstar game
Nightmare Geese is just that, a nightmare. He has no impact on the canonical story. Same with Gen-Fu in DoA. He hasn’t mattered since DoA3 since that’s when he’s storyline ended. Canonically he’s not a participant of the DoA4 and 5 tournament.
I never meant to say that he was canonical but rather know as a NIGHTMARE that continues to “haunt” Terry in his dreams, Might be a manifestation of guilt or something, I don’t remember where I have read it or known it, read it somewhere… Its a good explanation either than just being there… Don’t know the DOA stuff…
I don’t know why everyone uses the word “pawn” for Nash as if his relationship to the Illuminati is like what Sean is to Ken or the Dolls to Bison. I bet Nash can give Urien a run for his money or even straight up kick his ass. Also, do we know for certain when he saved Abel? If it was after he got resurrected by the Illuminati, then that probably means they have plans for Abel as well. But who knows, maybe Nash isn’t as cold-blooded as he appears to be?
Agree, Something having a gem in his head like those with Gill and Urien makes me somehow think that he is a not just an ordinary like the rest illuminati type? Unless Capcom would show that the Gem is shared with those of the rest of illuminati not only to urien and gill. I guess I need to wait…
“pawn” has nothing to do with his power level, it has to do with how he’s being used.
Nash’s story gives the impression that he doesn’t even know who the Illuminati are, even though they obviously revived him. They’re using this go between character that seems to be manipulating him into doing what they want without him even realizing.
Does he even know or wonder how horrible or grotesque he had become? Even his encounter with Ryu as if he was a normal person as how they seen him before with no surprise with the change he become that is hideous.
He has two winning quotes in multiplayer that reference his views on what he is now :
Against Necalli :
“I have no intention of losing. Especially in a fight between monsters…”
Mirror match :
“What’s happened to my body?”
Against Zangief (tangential) :
“A body is good for nothing in the face of death.”
I think that he knows that he’s a monster and that his time is running out, and I feel he doesn’t care about the Illuminati or anything, he just wants to kill Bison.
What are they “using” him to achieve? As far as I’m concerned, you were the one who said Illuminati wants Bison to succeed and all that Nash wants to achieve is destroy him. And no, your English is far from flawless. It’s “fluent” at best. Kappa
We don’t know yet, but it’s clear he’s not in control. He wants vengeance, but he’s been brought back through unknown means, for some purpose, Helen so far seems to be his only real contact and Ed has implied he’s not long for this world. With the gem in his forehead, there’s some clear connection to the Illuminati and considering the shape Charlie’s in, he doesn’t have much room to negotiate or demand much.
He clearly states what he’s back for in his winquote against Bison (to kill him). And if it’s anything other than that, it’s to find Guile (as indicated in the Cinematic Story Mode trailer) and do something to/with him. He’s still in control when he wants to get his revenge against Bison, because the latter not only got him killed, but he also did so by means of using his friend(s).
Either way, Nash is out there for WHAT HE WANTS. If what he wants is in line with what Illuminati also wants, then so be it. This doesn’t make him a pawn at all. He’s a useful mercenary at worst. So, again, people should stop using the word “pawn” so wastefully. Viper is also a pawn by that logic.
We don’t know what the Illuminati’s end game is in 2016. Our best bet is an old piece of SF history from the 90s about them wanting to fulfill the prophecy so that the Messiah can come and save the worthy.
I predicted that one possible scenario is that the Illuminati want Bison’s plan to succeed (so they wouldn’t want Nash to destroy him before that happens) because a prerequisite for the prophecy to occur is 7 pieces of the ‘Black Moon’ falling to the Earth and causing great destruction.
I also mainly call Nash a pawn because that’s who he was BEFORE he died. He was a pawn in the US army, and the moment he had free will he lost his life. He was never meant to reach Bison in the Alpha era.
I call Nash a pawn now partly because of what we have seen so far from the game, what we know about Nash’s history, but also because of the Nash comic (which is not canon) very possibly foreshadowing this reality for the official timeline. This is also how the Illuminati work, they ‘influence’ people to do their bidding to achieve their goals. Nash may want to kill Bison, but he is a pawn because he has no idea what killing Bison will do for the Illuminati’s end game. Therefore, he is a pawn piece on their chess board.
Following from your logic, I wonder if you’ll be able to call Bison a pawn so easily if it turns out Illuminati was merely “influencing” Shadaloo to bring the world to the state it’s in in the Cinematic Story Mode trailer, so people look for a kind of “salvation”. Heck, Bison is the biggest puppet in the world game history if Illuminati isn’t an organization just being formed during the fall of Shadaloo. Because then that means Illuminati, being the kind of organization it is, has always been aware of Shadaloo’s intentions and hasn’t done anything to stop them, as Bison has actually been doing Illuminati’s bidding.
Nash is a pawn because he has no real power. The influence and might the Illuminati wields is REAL power in the setting. As is the power Shadaloo wields.
And yes, if the Illuminati has been actually leading Bison by the nose (I don’t think that is the case but it’s plausible) that would make Bison a pawn of the Illuminati.
Stop getting butthurt over the usage of the word, man.
Though if they’re just waiting for Bison to ruin the world…then no, that would not make Bison a pawn. It would just make him another major piece on the board alongside the Illuminati. Bison would be a Rook or a Bishop putting the world into check for the Illuminati’s Queen.
It just comes down to who really has power and authority.
And how do you define power and authority? Juri has power, no? Is she a pawn because she needs Shadaloo for her eye maintenance? Either your use of the word is just out of context (which I think it is) or next to half of the Street Fighter characters are pawns.
