The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

So anyway, how do you guys think the Illuminati are going to play into the story of SFV and Street Fighter in general?

Is Capcom planning to rewrite some parts of the classic SF3 era canon? Are they going to officially introduce the organization to us in V instead of waiting until the proper story arc begins?

Having Urien appear shortly after the Cinematic Story expansion is done tells me that some sort of a retcon is inevitable

I see it happening two ways

  1. The SF Story expansion is gonna pull a Neatherealm Studios type ending for their story modes and have Urien appear in the very last scene (or end of the credits) and have Urien, along with the Illuminati and Gill bonding together and forshadowing their plans before it cuts to Black, which sets up future plots in between SFV and SFIII in a future game

  2. (and although very ambitious, is my preferred way of handing upcoming characters) Same way as the first way, but what this does is that it sets up FUTURE story mode expansions which would focus on side characters/plots, (or could be a continuation from season 1 story mode expansion, assuming the ending of the Story mode expansion ends with a cliff hanging “To Be continued…”. So come 2017, we get the origin of the pot of the illuminati story, and we showcase the new characters involvement: 1. Alex’s involvment, 2. Chun-Li’s relationship with Li-Fen which leads to her abduction, 3. Post-fall of Shadaloo, 4. And so much more!

I know my second idea seems a little too much, but part of me always hopes that Capcom’s story mode becomes such a huge success that instead of waiting for the next game to expand on the story, why not continue with it in the next season, and more to come. It’s a good way to keep players engaged with new content coming out every year, why not also a new story expansion?

Like I said, my second idea seems a little ambitious, but I read somewhere that ono didn’t decide to do a story mode until June of last year, giving them a full year to produce the story. Maybe we can get a new story annually?

I hope F.A.N.G. betrays Shadaloo and swear his allegiance to the Illuminati cause I want to see him in future games too.

They won’t have a strong presence in this summer’s cinematic. Urien may appear toward the end to guide things in the right direction, but I have a different theory as to how the story of SFV will go:
-When they said “evolving”, I doubt they meant “release 1 cinematic and prologues for the DLC characters”. We should get a new cinematic either every year or two years, depending on the length and production value put in.
-This story concerns Bison’s biggest plan yet. It will likely be thwarted, and Shadowloo will really fall apart, but no one, not even Bison/Necalli, dies.
-After Shadowloo disbands, Karin runs her big New York Tournament she was planning, and uses it to draw out Oro. Episode 2 revolves around this tournament, Ryu’s first encounter with Oro, Chun-Li investigating leads on the Secret Society, Nash continuing to hunt Bison, and Cammy dealing with any dolls not accounted for. Ibuki begins her quest for the G-File, causing her to work with Chun-Li. Juri hopes to take advantage of the wreckage of Shadowloo to build up SIN. Chun-Li manages to piss off Urien, which leads to…
-The third and final cinematic will retcon the SF3 series. An adaptation of Ryu Final occurs to complete his arc (major fights like Dudley, Hugo, and Akuma may be with different people), Chun-Li rescues the kidnapped Li-Fen, and Gill winds up being defeated.

Oh, and I know I go on and on about how Ryu Final should become canon in the future. For those of you who are all like “WTF is this mummy-fucker talking about?”, here’s a repost of someone’s Ryu Final translation. It isn’t word per word, but he summarizes what’s going on and includes pages from the original book for visual reference. There’s a lot of “Fuck Capcom, fuck UDON, fuck Ono” rants before and after the real story that are meaningless now because this was posted back before SF4, but the story remains awesome.

Most notable is that we get serious character development for Ryu, Ken, and Sagat, as well as the ultimate and satisfying conclusion to Ryu’s story.
Massive spoiler that you should not read until you at least finish this summary:

Spoiler

After burning down Gouken’s dojo as a smoke signal, Akuma reappears and fights Ryu. It was so intense that they both kill each other in the process, with Ken being the only witness to the fight because he lost the deciding match beforehand with Ryu. Ryu ascends to a legend in the martial arts world, which is an inspiration for Alex. In this version, his red headband is Ryu’s, which Ken gave to him after Alex lost a fight. Honestly, I think THIS was the original plot to SF3, and why Ryu was not involved, but ended up getting rewritten.

Hmm…

Spoiler

I think it’s pretty strongly indicated that, in fact, Ryu survives his encounter with Akuma. In fact, Akuma’s last speech seems to indicate he entirely wants Ryu to survive

[details=Spoiler]They both survive, although Ryu is left mortally wounded but manages a full recovery. Akuma takes a Fist of Wind to the face and turns into the Oni? Ryu says he doesn’t want to kill Akuma and eventually wants a rematch, but Akuma says that he must look after the future generation and disappears into the flames.

[/details]

Yeah that’s exactly what I thought.

I don’t know if this must have been brought here already? have you notice the ryu concept alt having bondage in the wounded part same as evil ryu of sf4.

Glad that we can finally know what happened to Dictator in SF3. And we get to know how he got his cool white hair.

I also like the mention of Ken being beaten within an inch of his life by Gill, which awakened a determination to live and survive for his family. I just hope we get that last Bison vs Gill fight before our favorite Dictator disappears into the shadows. Keep it a cutscene if we aren’t getting Gill, but we need this ultimate “battle of the bosses”.

The translation of the text says that this Ryu design has overcome SnH, and redeemed himself from being (SSF4’s incarnation of) Evil Ryu. It also mentions something about his shoulder having a design of murderous intent embers.

Here’s the prototype concept designs in action

I’m glad we didn’t get Prince of Persia SF. That looks terrible. The fewer tribal tattoos the better.

In regards to SFV Story, so… are Cammy and Juni a thing now? Hmmmmmm?

Maybe they’re just ‘cousins’.

Boo. When we saw a blurry shot of that image earlier, I was hoping that was Urien in that picture. But it’s just another Bison.

Also, WTF!? Thin Doll Birdie is so much cooler than Rufus Birdie!!

Look, I get that Rufus is fat, but why the fuck wouldn’t he just buy clothes that fit? Why are all his clothes literally bursting off of him?! It’s not like they don’t have clothing stores for fat men!

At least the Karin we got was better than any of the concept Karins.

yup dude seen that pic from the article, also I think sfv was initial be after sf3 so it would be lile the ryu final manga… then change to before sf 3

I hope they find a better excuse and interpretation for dictator existence. I like him more now!

they like weird alts for birdie…

I don’t like the hair on Karin-B. She on the Sonic the Hedgehog tip on that one.

I would love to see that in this game, but my gut tells me they’re going to save that for SFVI, when Dictator returns after his absence (possibly in Ed’s body?).

Totally. In SF6, we need to have 3 separate evil organizations.

Shadaloo, the crime syndicate run by Bison.

S.I.N. the corrupt corporation run by Urien.

And the Illuminati, the secret cult run by Gill.

Each of them, trying to take over the world.

Then you have your special U.N. Martial Arts Task Force, with Guile, Chun Li, Cammy, Viper, etc. whose job it is to make sure they don’t.

its still a mystery to me for urien, gill and seth having common build and normal attacks like the dolls and cammy… speculating that they may…

**a: **its either seth clones were taken inspiration from illuminati leaders, having dictator known their existence!
**b: **they are seth clones with false memories for future plans of dictator.

SIN is literally just the weapons division and corporate front for Shadaloo. It went under and was absorbed back into its parent organization. Urien has no relationship with it.

Post-SF6 I’d like to see Urien’s 3s ending canonized. He takes over the SS and mutates their ideology of salvation into Nazis hellbent on purging the human gene pool of impurities, replacing them with his own perfect genetic progeny.

C: No relationship whatsoever. Similarities are 100% coincidental and nothing but recycling done on Capcom’s part.

My god. I want that stage! I want that Ryu! Those Birdies! And I want that DIC! I love the whole serious tone, a little bit on the Tekken side but if only the current SF5 was slightly more serious like this image I would be 100% satisfied with the art direction.
