The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Lol @ smashed by an internet dislike (over a correct opinion while at that) =)
Nah, it’s not reaching

If anything Ryu quote in that sense reflect Ryu noticing Abigail uses basically no ki, and his power is “strenght” as physical strenght and nobody match Abigail at that in SF

And if somebody does (likely not) is possibly Hugo or Gief (who, tbh in SFV seem to have reached some form of ki)

SF does a clear distiction between characters that got incredible power due muscles (we can call it strenght for the conversation) and who got incredible power due ki, or greatly due to ki

Bison got above average strenght in his physical attacks, but all his greatness come from PP (ki)
Akuma got above average strenght in his physical attacks, but all his greatness come from SnH (ki)

We can argue that all matters is that Bison or Akuma can paint a football field with Abigail’s blood without sweat, but still pretending pure physical strenght does’nt exist by itself as an element of SF lore is ridicolous

Specially considering that at the very core concept many characters are defined by theyr combination of body/technique/ki

If anything has been used by Capcom for years to accentuate the awesomeness of “ki fighters” that elevated themselves above the meat level, as the only path to the highest tiers

Wich is also why the most powerful known SF character is a centenary dude that look like this

Once understood the context there’s nothing absurd on Ryu telling Abigail he’s the strongest (physically) opponent he ever meet, if anything sound about correct

Balrog is old news. Now for the real question: who would win in a match between Dudley and Ed?

I feel that Ed’s Psycho Power would be an X-Factor in a one-on-one fight. So if you were to ask me, my vote would go to Ed, The Young Commander.

1st panel
Chun-li: "Look! Blanka-chan!"
2nd panel
Chun-Li: So cute
Menat: "Take a picture[please]"
Cammy: Me too
3rd panel:
“Bye, bye”
"See ya"
4th panel:
Blanka impersonator: “I can’t stand that fucking guy[Blanka]”

Hello all.

I just want to say I just read Udon’s English translation of the Ryu Final manga (yeah I know I was extremely late on this one :S) and I gotta say is fantastic, it is IMO the best SF comic/manga related thing I have ever read; even better than that same author’s (Masahiko Nakahira) Street Fighter Alpha and Sakura Ganbaru Mangas.

Now, I would like to list and discuss what I believe are the influences this particular Manga had on the SF game canon; for context, this manga was originally released in Japan around 1998 (after SF3 2nd Impact but before Third Strike), so, here they are (as far as I am aware):

SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!!

-The “catch a leaf” training lesson by Gouken appears on Ryu’s 3S ending.
-Oro’s ending on 3S has him taking Ryu as his apprentice and on the top of a big boulder Ryu has to carry, just like in the manga.
-The tree in Dudley’s home (where Elena can communicate through) appears in Elena and Dudley’s story in SFxTekken.
-Ryu’s new move in the manga “the fist of the wind” appears to be the main influence on Ryu’s focus attack from SF4.
-Sagat mentions a “Promise” to Ryu in their rival fight from SF4, the manga also mentions the same “Promise” between the two fighters when they fight later on the second half of the manga.
-Evil Ryu’s circular chest scar on his SSF4 apearance looks to be based on a very similar injury Akuma causes to Ryu in the manga.

So, for those who have read it, what do you think? Am I missing something else?

@Spoonman Sagat taking care of kids becomes a character trait in SFXT where he teams up with Dhalsim to “protect the children”.

To conclude, most of Nakahira’s work influenced the SF story in some way with Sakura Ganbaru being the most influential due to Sakura, Ken and Karin’s story for Alpha 3 being loosely tied to it along with Sakura’s SF4 ending.

@ES_Curse I going with Ed for the win. Ed learned everything from Balrog and then some extra and coupled with PP, Balrog is history.

You get less payoff now, but those trial and survival modes still give character experience, which nets you money.

Do every Easy Survival and watch every Demonstration, then tackle Normal Survival and harder with your favorite characters. Look for cheap tactics to beat the AI, such as spamming Rashid’s Eagle Spikes.

Remember that you can set the online matchmaking search feature so that it asks for confirmation when it finds a rival; this way if you are doing badly in a survival round you can accept a match to bail out of the round and try again, or else ignore the match if you are doing well. You can set this up any moment from the pause menu.

The Duds.

Interesting power level discussion on the last page. Wanted to add my piece.

So its a fun little exercise to help find out power levels SFA3 style using the Juni formula.
Let’s use someone like Abigail for example

BP-14400
SP-26500

You can pretty much apply this to any new character.

Juni and Juli are powered with Psycho Power. It enhances their BP exactly double what it should be.

Akuma’s SP is 15x what it should be.

Ryu’s potential max BP is 16x what it should be.

So obviously you have multipliers like SnH, MnH, and Psycho Power and probably more.

I would hesitate to say that the Dolls were powered by Psycho Power at that point in the timeline. They were merely brainwashed (with Psycho Power probably), and biologically/cybernetically enhanced. Bison only really started infusing his non-clone minions with Psycho Power in SF5 after FANG found a way to augment them as part of CHAINS.

The reading on Bison is accurate though, his power is beyond those Dolls’ comprehension!

Those Juni readings look out of whack as much as the spider charts in SFV, but they’re a very interesting tidbit nonetheless. Thanks for sharing them!
I remain that talking power levels in Street Fighter is pretty much useless and just the stuff of fan speculation. There aren’t solid information about it that can be properly called “canon”, and I don’t enjoy the idea of Dragon Ball-like power levels in a franchise that I think is about a greatly varied cast of very different personalities and fighting styles that (boss characters aside) fight all roughly on the same level, sometimes someone wins and sometime someone loses, so I think that there shouldn’t be canonical power levels at all to begin with.
It’s far more interesting when the fights are based on story and actual fighting styles over who gets the biggest ki number, and I totally remain of the opinion that even a comedic jobber like Birdie has a shot at toppling Ryu down even as late as post-ASF SFV.

On an unrelated note, I’d love if one day we could have proper translations of the victory quotes from the Japanese versions of Alpha 3, Alpha 2, Third Strike and all the other old games. There’s probably so much interesting stuff in there.

ALSO:

This thing is getting released in Japan in March.

Oooh? What’s that? Haven’t seen that before

Looks like an artbook to celebrate the 30th anniversary (one year late), unfortunately I can’t quite understand the description even with online translators.

Here’s a couple of descriptions I found for it online (google translate tier though):

“Street fighter” series celebrating 30th anniversary. It is an indispensable item for fan who looks back on the walk with key men’s talks and enormous visuals. In addition to the first public release material, the latest work “Street Fighter V AE” end card visual is also posted.

Memorial archive with a crosstalk by the key persons and a large amount of visual material.
Documents never published before and the end card visual of “Street Fighter V AE” are also included.

@Phantom_Miria I especially want the MVSF character victory speech translated. I always thought that MVSF had the most effort with nearly everything and the character speech are a clear indicator. If I remember CFE paraphrased the character specific quotes from 3rd strike in english/whatever language.

The problem with these artbooks is that they cater to obviously to the waifu crowd, when all I want is some villainous artwork.

Blame Bison and his infatuation with Ryu’s manly shining sweaty body then, if he just kept going with his original plan he’d be ruling the world and be best waifu.
The popularity of Cammy’s dictator costume in SFIV is proof enough of this.

@Phantom_Miria Bison’s biggest downfall is sending Cammy to deal with Dhalsim. Imagine if he didn’t?

@Daemos Same here, with the artbooks I want more rare artwork as well as celebrating every side of Street Fighter along with concept art and artist comment done in the manner of “Megaman Complete Works”. That can’t be hard?

Today i will definitely say Dudley

Ed may be a bit more tricky and quick than Rog, but Dudley is an absolute Master of the Art.
Also he’s bigger/stronger/more powerful and faaaar more experienced (how many years of actual fighting/training exp Ed have…1? 2?)

Ed’s PP close the gap a bit but he’s still very outclassed… too green vs a too good opponent.

Also Ed got Rog as Master, and tbh he’s probably not that great master when you think that most of his boxing style is about his own physical gifts (that Ed does’nt have) to punch hard as fuck with the left and follow punching hard as fuck with the right lol

One day Ed for sure potentially, as soon he reach his “prime” and become more experienced at boxing/fight + more experienced at use PP will be just too much for Dudley’s pure boxing, no matter how refined

But for now money on Dudley
