The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

I think he’s referring to the friend who has gone missing. The German version implies she’s a girl because of the translation of Freudin. Rashid never verbally mentions his informant, but it’s implied through the phone messages to be C.Viper.

M. Bison’s story mode. We see Viper get spotted by Shadaloo. Pretty safe to say it’s her.
Then again, his friend’s screen name on his phone is effiepurpnight, so, uh…Effie? Necro’s girlfriend?

C.Viper hasn’t gone missing, she was spotted but escaped. During Bison’s story, Viper mentions specifically about S.I.N researchers going missing, something that Rashid’s heavily implies his friend to be. So Viper isn’t the missing friend Rashid is looking for, and is more than likely his informant.

Viper had infiltrated S.I.N. as a researcher so she might know Rashid’s friend personally. They gives them a reason to be working together.

Sorry from quoting from so many pages ago, but I had a lot to catch on:

Regarding Ed, If he were around 11 (but still not even in pre-puberty) and then around 2 years passed (which is, considering Mel’s appearance and the fact he talks, the most we can stretch the timeline), he could be 13 and be in puberty and growing fast, giving an appearance of 15-16. It’s a stretch, but could work. I also wouldn’t discard him out of the game for being too young, the “kid fighter” is a trope that SF has never explored and they could try to to attract the people that like that kind of character. See, Hokutomaru and (borderline) Rock Howard in Fatal Fury, that Rock Howard-ish young boy in Tekken, Bao in KOF, etc. Not my kind of preference but it’s a possibility.

Also, @Daemos, regarding Ryu’s story, I think you’re trying too hard to fit everything in SFIV into SFV story, while the people at Capcom probably didn’t pay it much attention and just retconned Gouken’s SSFIV ending, as well as many other things (Ryu’s SnH not being sealed away, but rather quelled for a moment and now in training with gouken to control it, etc.)

Again, guys, you’re taking the “sealed” thing too literally. Sealing a power like SnH does not mean eliminating it all-together. Sealing an individual instance of it does not stop it from recurring. Think of it like the seal on the 9-tail fox in Naruto…it’s still there inside him and it still powers through that seal quite a bit. The seal is just a cork/stopper on it…the wine is still in the bottle.

True, but even in that case, Ryu’s SnH is being treated different in SFV. Instead of that force that uncontrollably calls him in SFIV, in SFV he’s starting to come to terms with it, and instead he’s trying to just find ways to develop his fighting skills without needing to heed its call, but not outright supressing it.

Right…cuz you can’t just fight against it or remove it or suppress it. You have to stop using it and change your mindset all-together.

So, anyone liking SFV’s story so far? I know I’m not. Even Vanilla SFIV provided us with more insight than this pile of crap did. And to think this was going to be the greatest SF story told yet. LOL!

I’m not going to make any judgments until the cinematic story mode is released. i will admit that I was expecting more from the character prologues.

I think I heard the name Maya somewhere for Rashid’s missing friend. Or am I imagining things?

I don’t think Maya is the friend that Rashid is looking for. If the story is consistent with the story, then Rashid’s friend was a SIN engineer who disappeared. And assuming that Maya is indeed C. Viper, I think she serves as Rashid’s informant, rather than his missing friend.

Maya is C.Vipers name.

Also, these are just the prologue to the actual story and they’ve Already given us more story than SFIV. Hype for the cinematic story mode.

Did a few more of the character stories.

I liked Karin’s story. I don’t get the Mary Sue accusations about her story. Beats Birdie and Gief and fights Sim to a standstill. It feels like she’s at the right power level. Seeing Sakura in her school uniform pissed me off. I swear Capcom will never let her grow up.

I found Birdie’s hilarious. The uniform he had to wear did more to cramp his style than the hat. He should have left when he had to wear that. Lol at Birdie having a canonical win over Chun.

Cammy’s story left like retreading old ground. Gonna save the dolls, decapre, blah blah blah. It only got interesting when Juni showed up. Cammy’s surprise of her being let out peaked my curiosity. Delta Red must be keeping her on lockdown to ensure the Shadowloo brainwashing been flushed out. The idea that dolls might not want to be saved is interesting. Here’s there’s at least one or two that are like that.

Nash disappointed me. I was dying to know how he was brought back and I didn’t get that. I didn’t even get to see him react to meeting his old friends in New York at the end of his story. The wait for June is gonna be painful. Judging from the Guild flashback Nash’s Alpha 2 & 3 stories did the fusion dance. Ed feels like a wild card. He doesn’t strike me as someone who’s down for Shadowloo’s cause. I wonder if he has any special relationship with Balrog since he saved him. It could explain his personality.

Chun’s story was nice. Li-Fen is adorable. Story is way too short to do her character Arc Justice. It was too rushed to get any enjoyment out of it.

I am late on the story reveal. What are the latest theories on Helen and Ed?
Necalli’s story just seem like a tentacle sex dream foresaw by the prophet. He is pretty much Ancient Ogre with better hair.

I feel Helen will probably be revealed to be working for the Illuminati. Ed is the bandage boy from Balrog’s SFIV ending, one of the spare Bison bodies.

Is Helen Russian? It’s weird that Nash didn’t question her about her organization and why they revived him. Guile said Nash is supposed to be the cool-headed analytical one, so it’s weird Nash just spilled out everything to a total stranger without being skeptical about his situation.

Another thing, I can’t remember where I 1st heard of it, but wasn’t there a thing about Nash having lost his memories after being revived? And yet he seems to remember everything perfectly when he was describing everything to Helen.

I think Helen is Kolin using a cover identity.

Well he was dead and she did make him rise up

I think the whole Naruto seal interpretation is a bit too literal as well because it implies an outside source (Gouken’s energy) is literally throttling Ryu’s use of SnH. I always felt what Gouken and Akuma meant by Ryu being sealed off from it in SF4 was that Gouken simply had disrupted Ryu’s use of it. By Gouken knocking Ryu unconscious at a moment when he was about to succumb to SnH he had sealed Ryu’s from using at that exact moment, but Ryu would ultimately have to find his own answer on how to quell his outburst. SFV mentions nothing of a seal, but Gouken quells Ryu’s SnH in the same way as in his SF4 ending, by knocking him out.
The whole seal Imo felt like a “bandaid” answer to a problem that Ryu had pretty much found out seemingly on his own in SF3. I feel SFV puts him more so on this path, rather than in SFIV having him being sealed from SnH and having learned nothing from it the end, which what Gouken implies Ryu should do in SFV; learn from it and not fear it.
