The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

I dont get all the hate on the initial story mode we have.
As if we’re not getting a GIGANTIC story mode update in less than 4 months.

I just check Street fighter 5 on Behind the voice actors website and Gouken has a different English voice actor in SF5. in SF5 Gouken’s English voice actor is Keith Silverstein

[details=Spoiler]
I totally agree with this, because it’s been established since SF2 that Gief fights bears

The red scarf around the Bear’s neck is obviously because he’s in the company of the Red Cyclone. It all must be a coincidence the development team decided to make a nod to this fact in game after Kuma and Gief appeared together in SFxT. Plus the fact Kuma literally means just “Bear”.[/details]

I doubt this comes as much as a spoiler right about now since I’ve seen numerous articles and post on this matter, so I thought I would un tag it.
Lets clear a couple thing about your statement because it’s a little misleading to begin with.

First thing is that Bengus has never actually drawn an official illustration of Sean until now to my knowledge. SF3 art was mostly done by Kinu Nishimura, so Bengus hasn’t drawn Sean in the past.

Now lets move on to the case of Birdie. First if you would want to say Bengus has drawn Birdie darker in the past, than this is also is also misleading because originally Birdie was Caucasian, and guess who did the artwork for that? That’s right, Bengus!

Now lets move onto Birdies next appearance in SFA where his appearance first changed.

Doesn’t look too dark does he?

Now lets compare this original “dark” Birdie to our current Birdie

If you noticed, he probably looks a shade darker depending on where the scene is supposed to take in story mode. But to say Bengus has exclusively drawn Birdie darker in the past is a misnomer.

Now i’ll address Balrog, which I’ll agree he is presented lighter than he usually is. But I feel the reason for this is because of the style he’s using and the watercolor itself. Just look at some of his work in SFA compared to SF2 and a lot of the stuff generally looks lighter. The characters shades start to darken in SFA2, and in SFA3 Bengus completely abandons the watercolors. If we compare Balrog from SF2 to SFA series art, he too becomes lighter. It’s the style of the art (watercolors mostly), not Bengus white washing blacks. Even some of the lighter character in Alpha look paler than usual in the artwork because of this.

*double post

But that mid-boss battle was just some lame battle where nothing really happened. Both, Ryu and Sagat were disappointed by that fight. Sagat because Ryu was seduced by the Dark Side, so to say. And Ryu because Sagat didn’t fight with all his power.
So, why should this fight be the flashback scene? And why would it end exactly like SF1?
They even include this:

Which to me looks like this is supposed to show the blood from Sagat’s open chest.

Yes, it’s true: It wasn’t Evil Ryu who fought Sagat. They should have shown Ryu with a white gi in the flashback. But I assume this is done to highlight the fact that it was indeed the Satsui No Hado, i.e. the power that could turn Ryu into Evil Ryu, that was responsible for Ryu’s victory in SF1.

This is a second flashback and both could very well be supposed to present the start and the end of Ryu’s downfall.

This is indeed a bit strange. But I assume that Sagat just doesn’t know that the Dragon Punch back then had anything to do with the Satsui No Hado.

It’s still a good reference point, though, since it shows what would have happened if certain events had unfolded.

About the question whether Ryu was Evil Ryu when fighting Sagat and in how far the Satsui No Hado can consume you, I think YagamiFire summarized it pretty well.

But that’s not so important to me anyway.
My question is simply: Was this Dragon Punch from SF1 powered by the Satsui No Hado and therefore Ryu’s first little taste of that power? Or did Ryu’s victory in SF1 have nothing to do with the Satsui No Hado at all?
And I think the latter is not the case. It was surely the intention in the original canon. But after the SFA manga came out and Capcom adopted the concept of Satsui No Hado into the canon, I’m pretty positive that they also intended Ryu’s victory over Sagat to be due to the Satsui No Hado.

This whole Ryu lying on the ground and Sagat just wanting to help him up, this has no proof. It seems to be an invention by the plot guide.
But Ryu’s final Dragon Punch against Sagat being powered by the Satsui No Hado, I still believe that this was Capcom’s intention, especially since they adopted it from the manga that invented the Satsui No Hado in the first place.

After Dictator’s speech about strenght > loyalty, F.A.N.G fell in love with him and, like a perfect housewife, he established new rules inside the house, dress code for Birdie, reorganization of troops and Dolls and new wallpaper for toilets. Claw and Boxer are his unruly stepchildren. What a great waifu.

The way i see in it the characters stories are introductions to the main story coming in june. The very definition of prolouge is an introduction to a literary work.

[details=Spoiler]@just5moreminutes I actually do agree with you. I think they did make Karin a little too much of a Mary Sue. I think she, along with Laura’s story, were the only two characters of story mode that I did not enjoy.Simply put, there are no stakes to their conflict. Meaning that I feel that there is no consequence if they fail to achieve their goals.

For instance, we all know Ryu’s conflict was struggling to keep the SnH under control for fear that he’ll lose himself to it’s destructive nature.

Chun-Li’s conflict was trying to find the answers of her father, but with her struggle between having others help her and doing it alone, you can see the conflict pull on both sides of her.

Cammy as a final example, her goal to protect and save the dolls from Shadaloo has a clear objective and consequences, should she fail.

However, with Karin, She had no conflict. And if she did, there was nothing at stake if she didn’t get what she wanted. I loved how she went from a brash, cocky school girl to a refined and classy lady. I feel they could’ve shown how she changed into that character. It would make things more interesting.

And with Laura, she was just annoying. I understand wanting to travel the world and fighting strong opponents. But there was no stakes behind her goal. No consequence should she fail. She just seemed like a really happy, excited, person all throughout the story. No progression.[/details]

I’m turning on the Japanese voices when I play and if I hear Mika yelling “Kuma!” during that scene I’m calling it a crossover cameo appearance

I love that they dont even try and make FANG cool hes just a huge tool and an obvious heel. And he gives everything a stupid fkin acronym!

Regarding Mika’s story:[details=Spoiler]Can I just say how odd it is that Mika has a tag team partner who helps her out in all her fights, and this character doesn’t appear in her story mode at ALL?[/details]

I agree, it’s kinda odd.

Are all the character stories part of the SF5 story, or are they more of a prologue/pre SF5 stuff?

I think it’s a mixture of both. Some stories are flashbacks for character development and to show where they are right now in the SF Timeline. Others are to set the stage for the big cinematic story expansion in June

I have a new favorite character. Bear The Bear. DLC? Yes please. Epic Beard.

The amount of birdie abuse in the campaign is outrageous. I am setting up RSPB the royal society for the protection of birdie : O
