The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Bloody hell guys, how many times do I need to say this: “Zen” referred to Zenny, the paid currency. Capcom had a pretty good idea of what they wanted for Necalli and FANG, then designed Laura/Rashid with the marketing team.

That said, the Zen seen in that concept could be fun, albeit maybe too “goofy” for SFV.

This is why I mentioned ‘currently’ and ‘actively.’ There’s no doubt that Grandpa Kinjiro taught jujutsu to Laura and Sean if no one else. However after age 10, Sean’s focus and interests shifted over to general recreational sports, especially soccer and basketball. The Sean tackle likely even has some football or wrestling inspiration behind it. It wasn’t until much later when he saw Ken fighting that Sean decided to seriously go back into martial arts, along with conjuring his present dream of someday developing his own personal lethal fighting move.

Laura on the other hand vibrantly promotes the family style. Is she doing so with Grandpa’s efforts, or is she on her own because he’s now too old like Makoto’s grandfather? Is the rest of the family having a role, or are they shunning it because of various reasons such as safety concerns or even time consumption? We don’t know if they also have a fighting background yet. They could, but they shouldn’t have to if they feel like it’s not what should be a part of their identities nowadays.

I know it was fake. This tweet is apparently making fun of THAT rumored Indian fighter, who was based off the first Indian fighter rumor - Zen.

Is it weird I still REALLY want Eisbahn as a character?

(That’s a yes btw)

He did beat the Seth clone, though. He says so in the ending.

Even that is debatable.
The ending just shows how he sends this picure to the boys that he got to know in the beginning. This is not a picture in the newspapers or something. Just a pesonal present. There’s no hint that this picture was ever published anywhere.
So, I’d even deny that Zangief is seen as the winner by the general public. The boys even refer to Seth as “the bad guy from the TV”, so they have seen Seth, but when looking at the photo, they don’t act as if they have seen Zangief with him on TV.
This whole thing has no basis at all. Yes, Zangief mentions the tournament. So what? It’s not even like there are any spectators around to imply that this is actually the official final battle. It’s just Zangief’s personal impression. And the photo is merely a private gift, not something that made the news in the media.

Btw, I saw the Chun vs Vega fight in the SF2 anime movie, and in the English dub they swapped the music out… with KMFDM. It’s kind of surreal and great:

Starts at about 2:30. If you don’t skip in you get THEM NINETIES ANIME TIDDIES, so depends what you’re there for I guess

The English dub is superior in every way to the Japanese dub. The addition of KMFDM’s Ultra made that scene incredibly visceral, invasive, and feel all the more violent. It was a *brilliant touch. *

The soundtrack to that movie is absolutely incredible in the US release. Alice in Chains…KMFDM…Silverchair…yes so much pure 90’s awesome. It is absolutely BAFFLING how that anime managed to do pretty much EVERYTHING right. What a perfect storm of talent.

I hate how it’s impossible to find the uncensored version of the movie. Been trying to hunt it down for years.

They’re supposed to be releasing it uncut on Blu ray this year.

Been jealously guarding my original VHS & DVD copies of it. I have that movie in so many versions. VHS cut & uncut, DVD cut & uncut, DVD re-release, bonus movie on SF anniversary, digital copy on my PC & phone. And I’ll gladly be grabbing it on blu-ray when it comes out.

I used to own the unrated version of that movie. I remember it took me a while to find it. The censored version had the Street Fighter logo in the World Warrior colors. The unrated version had the logo in the hyper fighting colors. We all know this was Daemos’ favorite movie. Bison was OP as fuck.

Dude you have no idea. I mained Bison ever since I first played SF2CE in the early 90s, but when I saw this film my fanaticism for the character and the game as a whole went through the roof. It was definitely a turning point in my Street Fighter journey, and a big part of it is owed to the ‘perfect storm of talent’ as Yagami put it that put this masterpiece together.

I still have that VHS from the 90s. I refuse to buy the current blu-ray because it censored the language, so hopefully there will be a true uncut version of this film released this year.

Nah, Bison was not OP. He was just about exactly right as far as fighting game super-villain goes. So much perfect menace.

Vega and Bison were always my mains back in the day (especially Vega) and the movie just cemented my love of the characters.

As far as Bison’s power scale…oh man, I used to love showing my friends the movie for the first time. To them Vega was always this kind of over-the-top goofy, yodeling ninja guy with a Jason-Voorhees look. Knowing the canon, of course, I knew how bad ass he was. Then I would show people the movie and they’d immediately have the desired “JEEZUS CHRIST! This guy’s insane!!” moment and it made me giddy. Hell yeah, Vega’s insane. It’s what makes him a great villain. That entire scene where he gets kicked straight in the face by Chun-Li then just ‘rewinds’ himself back into a standing position thanks to his full body strength (which is about the creepiest damned scene in the movie) through him licking the blood off his claw literally CHANGED LIVES when I showed it to people. Vega immediately flipped in their brain from “flippy guy” to “goddamn psychopath”. Perfect.

The other great revelation always always ALWAYS happened with the “I’ll fight you at your own level!” moment. Invariably my friends would (most of them either Ryu or, more often, Ken, fans) would give the predictable “Hah. BIG mistake, Bison!” sort of reaction…and then I’d stop watching the movie and just watch them as Bison starts almost effortlessly beating the bejeezus out of Ryu & Ken simultaneously. There were quite a few literal “WTF” reactions…and the only answer I typically gave was “That’s why he’s the boss!”

Pretty much everyone I ever showed that movie to was a fan of SF in some capacity or another. ALL of them enjoyed or outright loved the movie. And every single one of them walked away from the movie respecting and liking both Vega and Bison FAR more as villains. That was how good that movie was. It cemented Vega & Bison as absolutely awesome villains in the minds of my friends that had, basically, zero interest in the canon for the most part. And it persists to this day.

Shit. I think I’m going to watch that movie tomorrow. It’s been a few months…I’m due.

The first time I saw it was when my brother rented the VHS from the local video store (remember those). Ken was my favorite character at the time and a young me didn’t appreciate the Ls he took to get the film to it’s climax. The only version I own is the only that came with the anniversary collection and that one is crap. I hope the discotek Blu-Ray has the version I want.

I first saw it on the Sci-Fi channel of all places. I remember being so amazed at Evil Ken’s absolute dominance of Ryu. When I was a kid, I was always under the impression that Ryu would kick his ass under *any *circumstance, but the movie showed me something I didn’t believe was possible back then. Bison was portrayed perfectly in that movie. Even though they won, I had the impression that Bison was on a completely different level in comparison to anyone else. Chun-Li’s fight with Vega was perfection. I liked the way Guile did the Sonic Boom while fighting Bison, too.

I always laugh when I think of some of the convoluted stuff I’ve created in my mind as a kid. When Super Street Fighter 2 first came out, I thought T. Hawk was Ryu’s dad. Yeah, I don’t know why. When he randomly attacked Ken in the movie, I thought it was revenge for not only stealing Ryu’s moves, but also because he had a better Shoryuken than Ryu had. All of that went out the window when I sat down and finally *read *the instruction booklet.

Overall, that movie was really awesome. I need to sit down one of these days and watch it again.

I need this in my life

Did that ever release in the US? I’d buy it to go with my Assassin’s Fist Blu Ray.
