@Phantom_Miria@Daemos
I think Ed would end up being a Anti-villain. He’s not evil but his actions would harm our characters or the world causing some conflict. He’ll most likely end up as a “soul jar” for a weakened Bison to inhabit post 3S. The Illuminati will still be villians while Ed/Bison would be secondary villains. Think of it like Alpha 2 where there were two paths: Shadowlaw and Ryu/Sagat/Akuma. Bison will definitely return but under tamer conditions.
@Daemos Maybe that Ed is initially indirectly evil, not selecting a specific goal or target but just causing problems, that is until Bison possesses him and he causes full on chaos. Ed could be self-aware during his position trying to fight back and suppress Bison’s control. Bison needs that evil to sustain psycho power and himself so Ed’s body is pitted in a mental battle. If you have seen Steven Universe, think Malachite.
It’s funny visualizing F.A.N.G out and about watching others. The part about the drunk bumping into him made me fear for that guy’s fate briefly. Thankfully he wasn’t introduced to the poison.
I can totally imagine him going to a Xmas party, inflicting poison on others by shaking their hands, and melting down the tree just to be a dick.
That’s the thing that made Akuma meh… he was better in Alpha days when it was Ryu that sought for Akuma.
He was even better in Super Turbo when it’s not about Ryu or Gouken other than fighting the best.
For Bison that sought Ryu for his youth. it’s like Orochimaru thing to Sasuke, then the later that he didn’t bother with Ryu because of improvement to Shadaloo experiments it’s seems reasonable and fair to both Ryu and Bisons character, but Akuma aftering Ryu is kinda meh story progression for Akuma.
A bit late on this, but wow, that FANG story was fantastic. He was already one of the most fleshed out characters in the CSM, and now this side reader added even more to his depth. Plus the narration was really eloquent. Can’t wait for part 2!
Topic of discussion: what do y’all see Rashid’s role being from here on out? He had his time in the spotlight during ASF, and he absolutely nailed it, so I don’t think he’ll get as much screen time/importance again, but I’m still hoping he remains a relevant, well-written character. I just have no idea what should really be done with him from now on. He has connections to a lot of the cast (Nash Karin and Kolin in particular), but Nash is dead, Kolin is evil and Karin already has tons of bodyguards + Zeku knocking on her door.
I think Rashid is the Juri of this entry. Meaning he made such an impression that you will see him in numbered entries from hereon out.
Then again, SFV’s newbies are easily the best collection of newbies since Alpha. I think Rashid, Kolin, FANG, and possibly Necalli have secured their futures.
Bison: “I demand that these SRK users enter this next tournament to allocate their inner darkness into combat… such elements will suit my business needs perfectly…”
@Daemos I think that the SFV newbies are the most consistent with what the designers were going for. SF3 was close but for every Necro or Yun you had you also got trash like Remy and 12. The Alpha cast were very inconsistent considering most of the newbies were FF and SF1 characters meaning they just redesigned. Nash and Rose have the same design perspectives but then we have Sakura, Karin and Mika who more operate on the 90’s action girl trope.
Rashid is what Alex is to SF3 or what Abel was supposed to be for SF4. Menat, Ed and Zeku have surely won the entire fandom over. Kolin and Laura are a definite return in the near future as we get closer to the SF3 era. The only ones I’m not sure about are Abigail and Necalli.
@Phantom_Miria It seems that Ed took some inspiration from Glyde out of Megaman Legends. They both have the “Villainous European” look but Glyde has more mannerisms similar to Vega.
Already covered, but since you joined recently i give a shot again (anybody else can skip and scroll down i guess, kinda long =) )
My 2 cents abou Ed development
As start everything started with Capcom wanting SF version of Adelheid, the “Son of the Boss” (Rugal/M.Bison)
As role and overall physical look is there: hair, built, lines
Is fun also how Falke being closer to Ed than other two (Knife/Gorilla), kinda recreate the imagery Adelheid got with Rose
Concept wise there could also be a loose link with theyr original idea for Hugo as an insanely muscolar teenager, watch the head/hat
Is less random than it sound, considering that one of Ed concept sketches got him with lab-built insane muscolar built
Last but not last Mr.Blue from Dragon Ball, very similar face structure and got psychic powers
Fun thing somebody noticed this on the names: full name is Edward Falcon, now we’re getting Ed and Falke
As attitude and style another huge inspiration is Nero from Devil May Cry 4
Despite having dark demonic source of power, both act as funny, scrappy, rebel young guys that make fun of theyr opponents
Not only that, but Ed’s psycho snatches are straight took from Nero’s devil arm powers, and even Ed’s Critical Art is straight copied from a DMC4 cutscene (Nero punching the Pope Boss)
Snatch

Last the western inspiration, particular for his Story Alt and his arc before NeoShadaloo, got likely influence from Eminem and Dr.Dre (Balrog) patronizing figure
@Cestus Actually Hideki Ishikawa stated in his defunct website that he used unused designs or previous designs for inspiration when doing Power Stone. This explains the Fokker-SF3 Hugo and how Rogue looks like Pullum Purna. Curiously Ishikawa was the artist for Megaman Legends and “Megaman and Bass” which explains the spikes at the end of Fokker’s hair which correlate with the spiky hair that most of the Legends characters hair or how he re-designed classic MM’s look to have spikes at the end, same with MM8/&B/MVC Roll, I also highly suspect that he re-designed Karin for her A3 look as he did some of the character design for A3/SF3:NG
Rashid is easily the breakout newcomer for SFV. Laura has her place, FANG is niche (albeit really good imo), and Necalli’s character is just redundant. For S2, Menat/Ed probably have the best chances, and so does Kolin if we’re moving more into an Illuminati arc.
It makes me really sad that FANG might miss out on later games because he doesn’t appeal to the waifu/shotobro crowd, similar to what’s happened with Hakan.
@Daemos Bison is love, Bison is life. Every character is dependant on him in order to be relevant.
@ES_Curse Rashid is the main character of SFV and he was also the Juri/Alex of the game. Laura is not likely with Sean kicking her out in the foreseeable future. Kolin and F.A.N.G depend on the plot but F.A.N.G has less of a chance. Zeku, Ed, Menat are also well-liked characters.
For Karin SFV i think they used Ingrid (very liked in Japan) as inspiration for the redesign, even before they got an actual Ingrid-alt
About the Story Alt i agree Roll is indeed the likely inspiration, she even got the #2 color as tribute to it[details=Spoiler]
@Cestus I meant the Alpha 3 Karin. Her hair and design is more reminiscent of Roll Caskett from the Legends series. I’d like it if Karin got a R.Caskett crossover costume. https://goo.gl/images/VZ2R4E
Which is curious because the MM8/&B/MVC AKA better Roll design had a more schoolgirl/waitress look to her. https://goo.gl/images/ga4cjV
Overall MM8/&B and the arcade games had a better art influence and more of a coherent feel thanks to Hideki Ishikawa. Shame he’s not the artist for Megaman 11 and left in MM9’s development when it went from a DS game to a 8-bit styled game.
1- For how i see it Necalli and Fang are the new ones (of start cast 4) that had the potential to be most memorable, then Rashid and far behind Laura
-Necalli was designed to be very central/iconic, but failed miserably at being developed in Story… and S3 trailer don’t give signs of give fucks about him lol.
Maybe if they left to Nash & Co the job to take Bison down as a team, they (Capcom) will have been forced to develop more Necalli as 1v1 Ryu nemesis, instead be just a step-stone sub boss of Ryu arc lol
-Fang is awesome because despite having a design easy to hate by internet kidz (and they did), the story gave him enough character/spotlight to become someway accepted
-Rashid got marketing-safe design (pls be likeable, offend nobody feelz etc) wich was good without be super developed, story did TONS of favor to him too, his cool character pushed him beyond be SF-arab-guy
-Laura as Rashid started very marketing-safe design, and while at it she got less memorable design than him. Also story barely touch her 3D tits, so even being a waifu she did’nt got crazy success
I wich they used at least this, wich was much more original and well thought
Well, i’ve set it as her default costume btw, one of rare cases where i did’nt keep the original standard
Agree on your S2 opinion
Abigail likely will end with SFV, but i liked see his moveset making him accepted (from begin hate), having like Fang a late slow rise
Zeku is cool but really feel he will just end with SFV too
For S3 i got hopes for G to be something very fun/original, specially we already got some “normal” big brawlers… He can become something iconic
Falke feel very secondary material, but have good hopes in future if Ed story goes on
2- As other said there’s hope due his link with Bison
