Hey everybody! I’ve never been too active on SRK, especially for the last few months, but I’m glad I came across this thread! I think it’s super-inspiring how everyone is so pumped about accomplishing stuff, and I want to be a part of this! As far as personal goals, I’ll have to think about it more, but I’ve got a few off the top of my head.
-Take those vitamins / Regular exercise. It’s a popular one, I know. I think Pablo said it just like it is: Health is sacred.
-Post on SRK more often. I joined SRK some time last year when I first heard about it, and I’ve never been a really active member. I still show up to some of the gatherings with all you guys, but I’m no more than an acquaintance with most all of you: I want to be a real part of the community!
-Level up in Street Fighter 4. I think this one goes hand-in-hand with the previous one: not everything on the forum is about playing Street Fighter, but it’s something most all of us have in common. I’ve been making a little progress here and there over the past year or so, and I’m not a super-competitive person, but I want to keep working up my skills so I can hold my own in a match!
What am I doing about it:
-I think Elias came up with the idea of keeping the vitamins with the keys/wallet/phone/etc. so you pick it up in the morning. I think this is a great idea, so I started doing this yesterday. I started up attending Kung Fu classes this week after having taken a few weeks off, so I want to make sure I go to one or two classes each week: I did it on Tuesday and Saturday this week!
-I added a shortcut to my web-browser so I’ll check out SRK when I check my e-mail every day, and I’m posting on here right now. I’m gonna do my best not to be all shy and crap and actually say something once in a while now!
-I started playing more matches on XBox LIVE again to practice, and I want to start doing the Thursday night GameWorks thing again if that’s still a thing. Is everyone cool with me adding you to my XBox friend list? I try to learn something every time I play a match, and I think that there’s a lot I could learn from everybody, so, if you guys don’t mind, it would be awesome to play some online matches some time!
So, we’re gonna do a meeting for this thread on March 18th, right? I’ll do my best to be there! I haven’t updated my resume in over a year, and I’m not looking for a job right now or anything, but I think it would be good to check in with everybody and see how you all are doing! Once again, thanks to Brent for putting this all together, it’s inspiring to hear about the progress everybody is making!
Love this idea, too. I’m gonna do the same. Got myself a daily multivitamin, B-complex, and triple omega supplement today. Glad to be back on that crap.
Quick progress reports:
Got all of my assignments and exam dates entered into iCal today. Not a huge deal, but it is a step toward being proactive in getting in top form in academia, and it is a legitimate success on my plan of action.
Determined that figuring out what to do with brass is essential for my compositions, so I decided that my composition for March will be a brass-only fanfare. This should be interesting.
Went down to a Portland SRK gathering today, but things kinda fell through on the scheduling, and I came back home before actually getting some time with the crew. Turns out this crew meets on Friday afternoons, too, and the time fits perfectly with my school schedule, so I think I’ll be making that a weekly (or near weekly) happening.
Ok, uh, it’s been a week since I posted here, so I guess it’s time for PROGRESS REPORT:
-Elias’ vitamin plan is working beautifully. I haven’t missed a single day as far as vitamins go, and I did some kung fu this week.
-I’ve been checking SRK every day and trying to post more often. As a result…
-I made it out to AfroDojo? on Tuesday, and it was awesome thanks to everyone there: I learned a lot about a few matchups I have a lot of trouble with, and it was good times! I’ve managed to get in some LIVE matches here and there as well: I even got a Sagat player to rage quit from a player match!* <3
*I think I should say that it’s not really cool when people get upset, but I really like using the term “rage-quit.” <:
All essential homework is good to go for last week. Not doing so hot on getting ahead… need to work on that more. Got a take home midterm that’s due Tuesday (was originally an in-class midterm, so it’s not a huge deal in terms of time investment… but it’s open-book, open-note… so I should definitely be getting an A outta this thing).
Totally slacked on composition this week. That needs changing. Immediately. Wait… I did do a bit of songwriting… but it doesn’t count toward my brass piece.
Working out right now. Nothing major… but I’m feeling that I’ve put on weight the last month… and that ain’t cool. Just starting with in-house basics. Thinking about buying a punching bag so I can be doing striking training as part of my routine.
No dice on the work front. Turns out Vancouver has a 14-something percent unemployment rate… so it suddenly seems unsurprising that I’m having no luck. Still… gotta get a job anyway. Gonna put “make new resume” on my list of things to do this week.
If we’re really meeting up tomorrow, please let me know. I really wanna go. There’s a lot of changes I wanna make, and unfortunately, a lot of them require money =/. Such is life.
Kinda heavy and personal to post in the topic, at least while the wound will be this fresh. I’ll tell you about it, though. Dugg invited me over so if I’m up to it I might see ya later. Not sure if I’ll need to be alone or with friends yet.
Ohhhh. :china: Whoops. That part. It was tight. I had like one drink too many because I finished my last drink like, “okay okay these people are all having a good time, they’re not just standing on the wall and watching… everyone… like I am…” but then I realized I needed a drink to hold so I got a tall can of PBR. Then I would default to drinking it (too quickly) if I felt uncomfortable or anything, which did me in. I ended up puking out the (passenger side :P) car window. I was so sly about it that my friend thought I was just spitting or something. Ended up getting on his car. I cleaned it off in the morning but I still might have to treat him to a car wash. Stomach acid and tequila is probably not good for the paint.
I was hungover all day the next day but it was worth it, I had hella fun. It was at re-bar which I had never been to. Cool crowd, actually. It was sunday so the crowd wasn’t huge but it was pretty diverse and everyone looked like they were genuinely having a good time, which you don’t see all the time. The dance floor was appropriately dark, without being creepy dark. The DJ (who said his name was Halo?) played like awesome music. Surprisingly awesome. I went up and shook his hand and talked to him after to tell him his set was dope. I even went up to this random guy in a sweet bedazzled dragon(?) costume to tell him his outfit was sweet and I guess dance near him. 'Cause his costume was sweet. I didn’t realize it was funny until my friend reminded me I had done that. I wonder if he thought I was hitting on him.
I am really sorry to have to give such late notice, but I won’t be able to make it to the meeting tonight.
I hope people who were planning to go and work on resumes will still meet up. I am supposed to get Thursdays off regularly from now on, and I am sorry if anyone had some important questions that they wanted to work on this week.
I’ve been to R Place, but only for like 15 minutes. Went with the fancy man to see if they still had pinball. They didn’t. He was over it in like 5 minutes but I demanded to stay and watch the drag queens perform 'cause it was amusing and he paid cover to get us in. Seemed alright. Dunno that it’s really my crowd though.
Haven’t been to the Elite. Still need to check out a lot of these yoohoo bars.
