The only problem I have with it is the bottom right black button as when I play SFIV my pinky finger can sometimes hit that button. Even though it does nothing it can get annoying. The 6 japanese style buttons are fine and the top right one for number 7 is good for those eventually snk games. I don’t need that buttom right one unless someone wanted to play american style. I mean its not really even a big problem really.
With a straight button layout, like the SF15AC stick, you can simply ignore the leftmost buttons. I have wired it so that the leftmost buttons are L1 + L2 (and you set it up as arcade stick layout B on sfiv). On the TE, it’s not so easy to ignore any buttons due to the skewed placements no matter which six you choose to use.
I’m guessing you knew the button layout before buying the thing.
It is definitely a Japanese stick. If are looking for a Happ stick like the SFAC this probably isn’t going to do it for you. You could always sell it and get an Arcade-In-A-Box, etc.
The reason the start and select buttons are in that placement is so that you don’t accidentally hit them during play. This is vital in tournament play because if you pause, you get a loss (I’m pretty sure).
The layout is meant to follow the Vewlix layout like on Vewlix cabs.
I honestly love the TE stick but I do agree on the first two points. I would of appreciated it more if the panel wasn’t so scratch-able and I would of preferred it if the button arrangement was curved like the HRAP.
And, actually, I don’t really hate the TE - I just prefer my P360 + happ comp button modded SF15AC stick. The TE is the first stick I’ve gotten where the parts are of such quality I don’t feel the need to run out and buy an additional $50 worth of parts to make it better (just a $4 round gate… after the warranty expires).
Well, here’s my big beef - for Japanese layouts, I feel the Agetec Dreamcast stick is ideal - you can lay three fingers across all three columns of buttons simultaneously. You really cannot do that with the TE layout (nor the HFS3, which I really despise). I’m back to having to use my fingertips solely, and shifting my fingers entirely from punch to kick to use the stick.
Comparing it to a Happ stick isn’t going to help. If you like playing on Happ then there’s no reason you have to play on a Japanese stick. If you weren’t wanting to make the transition then it’s probably going to be an unpleasant one. Give it some time and if it doesn’t do it for you then put a new PCB in your SFAC case and keep rocking Happ.
