The Hunter X Hunter Thread (New anime series has begun!)

(Hmmm…I think I just realized that I couldn’t find in the “unwatched thread” because it’s watched; it’s just no one has bumped. Oh, alerts system…)

So, yeah. Apparently the latest chapter finally came out a mere 9 hours ago. I was beginning to think that it had been set to skip a week or something like Naruto or One Piece next week and this week respectively.

Anyway, it would seem that Alluka’s ability is even more broken than we thought. Also, we have little more insight into “her”, especially at the end.

Killua’s mother continues to strike me as arguably the most fucked-up character in this entire series, which is really saying something.

Beyond that, it’s nice to have a bunch of call-backs this chapter, though I find it humorous that someone with amonocle manages to get up on my “I like this chapter” list rather quickly. Oh monocles. Is there anything you can’t do?

Leoriooooo

I guess the other butler with Killua is the one that is going to make the next batch of wishes to take on Killua’s debt, or at least the one the servants are planning to use.

So, election is over now right? Didn’t they just need 95% voter turnout?

“seriously, people. post the link” -the damned

another solid chapter. did not expect leorio to go buckwild like that. good shit.

@stabby, dont remember the details but from the last page it sounds like the election will keep going.

(Seriously, guys. Link. To. The. Chapter. Please.

…EDIT: boom! posted me before me because I was reading the chapter. Shows I’ve said it enough times…)

I think they needed a 95% voter turnout AND a majority of people voting for the candidates. Otherwise the elimination thing doesn’t make any sense and Pariston would stand an even greater chance of winning.

Speaking of the rat…er mouse, I’m beginning to wonder if those sparkles aren’t actually part of his power and he has some type of emotion manipulation ability like Melody’s music, only with oratory. I wouldn’t put it past the bastard.

Speaking of powers, Leorio’s is certainly…interesting. Wonder how it works since this is the first time we’ve seen it. I wasn’t expecting him to anything remotely combative, honestly. Although I suppose given that he was the only pragmatic enough to carry around a regular weapon in that switch-blade from all the way back, it makes sense that he’d have at least one combative nen “specialty”.

I ain’t linking to shit.

Ah, Ging made the condition that they need the majority of votes as well. So the next election only has the top 16, since they hit the 95%.

I like how you don’t like Pariston’s already. I like how he doesn’t give a fuck. If he was using his nen that time it might explain why everyone hates him so much. But Cheadle probably would have mentioned it.

If Leorio can transmit things through things, then that could be useful for surgery. I also forgot how fucking angry he always is, jesus.

(It’s out, you lazy bitches: Chapter 326.)

I burst out laughing at Leorio’s surname. It just makes the fact that he’s so easy to piss off, if for largely understandable reasons, all the more hilarious. Also, I feel like an idiot for not getting the pun on Pariston’s name initially; I won’t be able to take the bastard as seriously now.

The chapter was mostly talking, which I’m completely fine with but I know a lot of people seem put off by for…some reason. However, it was nice to learn about some of the Hunters–Bushidora Ambitious totally gives me a Bison/Bracken vibe in his visual design ironically (which is why it’s probably intentional)–that are contending for the vote and about Killua’s family dynamic. Poor Maha. Heh.

It was most interesting to see Illumi finally show some genuine emotion after being around since basically the beginning of the manga. I knew he had it in him.

You ruined that shit for me!

If Morau got bumped to triple hunter, I wonder if Gon/Killua are single star yet?

I hope Maha eventually does something. And I hope we get some backstory on Hisoka/Illumi. The quality on this series is so high. It takes Togashi forever, but even for monthly series (looking at you, Claymore), it keeps its pacing well.

Also, Hanzo is one of the figures of Hisoka’s toys.

I have to admit, one of my favourite things about this story is how the world feels a lot like a world, instead of a vacuum that only surrounds the main characters. Often, many characters are introduced with established relationships with other cast members, making them come in very organically and making the story move along very quick, instead of having say, monologues explaining and flashbacks to show the past of every new main character.

Also, I like Hisoka’s happy face. Good troll.

Stabby, I noticed that too about Hanzo, and I like that the latest chapters updates us on most of the established living cast.

Haha, I laughed at Leorio’s “How did I get myself into this mess?” expression on his face.

In regards to the talking, I actually dig chapters that are heavy in dialogue over action chapters, as I’m more into the story and background buildup, as well as the comedy, which I think Togashi is great at.

(Ugh. My stomach.)

Yeah, that the fact that the world actually seems like a (crapsack) world rather than the “protagonist!” show is a good part of why I rather like Hunter x Hunter (and One Piece) and why I’m aiming for it in my own fiction. It happens way too little in fiction in general it seems.

As I told white shadow (again) recently, I aim to displease.

I wouldn’t have anything if I had gotten it initially myself, but I was being rather obtuse last night, so I wasn’t sure how obvious it was to everyone else. Sowwy!

Gon probably. Killua I’m not sure. Gon did kill one of the royal guards all by himself on his top of his plight/sacrifice to do that being well-known, especially considering how many people were outside of his hospital room. Meanwhile Killua didn’t do as much even if he also played a significant role (and saved Knuckles’ life) and I’m not sure an assassin like him wants the publicity (or that his family would let him have it since we know that Netero & Zeno were at least on good terms).

Maha might get to do something. I’m more sure about that than Hisoka and Illumi’s backstory getting delved into considering unsentimental both of them seem, Hisoka’s Gum Hatsu aside. If it comes up at all, then it will probably come up towards the end of this arc, especially if Illumi fails.

Speaking of which, that’s another thing I like about Hunter x Hunter: It’s such a subtly crapsack world (like real life) that there’s no guarantee the “good guys” will win unlike most other shonen (and arguably fiction).

Pretty easy to notice Hanzo at the forefront. He is, after all, the only character in the entire series that’s bald IIRC besides Maha (but he doesn’t count).

I was more surprised that the examiners from the first Hunter exam as well as Kalluto and Biscuit were in there as well. I wonder if he knows the truth about Biscuit or if he’s just going by her “kid” form.

Speaking of Hanzo, I realized there’s probably other people from his clan who are Hunters since I think he got multiple votes. Still, that probably applies even if he only got one vote. I get the feeling we’re going to get to see him do something soon, especially if crap goes down at the hospital (like it probably will at this point). I would like to see him not die like Pokkle or Ponzu did, but we’ll see how that goes.

Chapter is out.

Will we make it to the end of this arc?!

hisoka is bad ass

That grandmother is badass.

(Chapter 327 since people refuse to link to things for some reason.)

God damn it, Togashi. Stop toying with my emotions and making me care about “secondary” characters.

Otherwise, uh, yeah, Tsubone seems pretty damn fast. I also find it interesting that she and Amane seem to have no visible weapons. I wonder if that means one or both of them is Conjuration or something.

Beyond that, I feel kinda stupid for also having TVTropes point out to me that the Virus Hunter from last chapter’s surname is Norton.

chap 327

[details=Spoiler]But he can wish him back, can’t he? With Killua’s new-found morals and his fondness for him, it makes sense that he would. Or maybe death can’t be reversed.

Anyway, rough. Poor Hisoka, will never know what he missed in that ant arc.[/details]

This chapter was so enjoyable I will read it again.

And also, poor Gotoh. Like a Butler has any chance against Hisoka, right?

(I can’t even imagine how the ant arc would have gone if Hisoka was around, out of getting the feeling that might have actually died, if only because he had too powerful an orgasm.)

I still feel dumb for being surprised that coins were how Gotoh was going to attack considering he was introduced. Maybe it’s because other butlers joined in and I never expected him to have a significant role against despite Togashi being good at bringing back side characters.

I will fight your spoilers with my own Stabby

[details=Spoiler]I don’t know. I think he might not be dead, at least outright. He “only” seemed to get his throat cut rather than got outright decapitated. So he might still be alive, though I kinda doubt it since Hisoka has seemingly no reason to spare any of the butlers even with what he’s playing at.

…He might spare Amane, though, if she’s the “mole” since Tsubone was automatically disqualified in this chapter, Gotoh is probably dead and Canary is extremely unlikely unless being manipulated outright by Illumi and doesn’t remember. The mole might not even be there, though.

However, as for your question, I’m not sure. Alluka can probably outright resurrect people, but I’d imagine the cost after word would be so horrifically steep that there would no reason to let anyone do it. As much as Killua liked Gotoh, Gotoh was always prepared to die for him.[/details]

Fixed for accuracy, though it’s not like your statement before belied that.

The mole would be a character that doesn’t want Killua or the family to die. It could be any of them, even Canary, since the whole point of killing Alluka is to protect Killua.

If everyone hadn’t left during this fight, I would have suspected Gotoh since Hisoka could have easily faked the fight. But we are the only ones that got to see that, so it won’t be some bullshit like the readers hearing Aizen’s thoughts when he isn’t even there.

(I only vaguely recall what you’re talking about with the Aizen thing. Is this when he was pretending to be Momo?)

I suppose that’s a valid argument. I had just kinda not considered it since we had also seen Canary’s thoughts before anything happened, but this is certainly open to interpretation, especially since Amane is possibly just a red herring. Funny how you–as in the “general” you, not specifically you–begin to suspect always red herrings part certain of "genre savvy"ness even if the culprit in question basically is caught red-handed.

It would be weird for it to be Canary, though, especially since she seemed more invested in Killua than even Gotoh. Of course, that could easily be why…

Also, what do you mean by “faked”?
