Anyone found use with Hugo with this? I think for block strings dash canceling cr M to grabmixups sounds plausible.

I have to say I agree with the rushdown advice or play with lariat. Like use it to absorb and stop them and if the know jumping really fucks lariat up start fake lariats then anti airing.

I personally like an occasional :d: :hp: as an air to air, it juggles them and has a humongous hurt/hit box. So pick your poison?

I just wanted to jump in and say I have been playing with Cammy/Hugo and I think it is a great team. If you know how to use Cammy, you can get in with her and get to Hugo to deal insane damage (relatively).

For instance, Cammy can cross up (or hit with a TKCS [ex or not]) to go into a L-M-H-tag combo, Hugo comes in and you can do a st. lk into either moonsault press or super. If you Put a Power gem on Hugon that activates on your partners tag, this just sweetens the deal.

Finally, if you have Hugo on point with 3 bars (which I can generally accomplish with meter gems on Cammy) you can cross up with jumping d.hp, c.mp, ex clap, walk forward, s.lp, mp, hp, launch: cammy s.hp super for another healthy does of damage.

I know this team may not be optimal, but I love the idea of using Cammy to get in and set stuff up for Hugo.

Just curious, what are some good options on wake up?

am i the only one getting the hugo hate? i mean i feel like if a big german man is gonna jump on you, gut punch you, clap your head between his monster hands, then shoot up into the air and break your back, since he is somewhat difficult to get in with, that he deserves to kill you in 2 combos

No i got it. Even a german kid whined over voice chat while playing

Jumping light kick is best air to air. comes out faster and has more active frames than mk and also has same hitbox

I’ve been doing fairly well with Hugo on point but he’s too easy to zone out and time is unforgiving in this game. i think he is much better second especially with meter does anti airs.

Has anyone tested jump in deep splash cr mp tick into ex ultra throw? Or even cr mp xx clap into ex ultra throw? Seems like a plausible tick option. especially if u condition opponent to expect cr mp clap x 2… Not sure if it doesn’t push u back too far.

Lastly. is it possible to do a combo with ex lariat , immediately tag into partner and then start charging your super in the corner? I am unsure if all characters charge supers take the same time to cast but it would be interesting. Would cost two bar but it is worth experimenting

Block. Backdash. Tech roll isn’t a good option since you don’t want to lose distance, unless theyre going for an obvious safe jump. EX lariat is kind of a good option, but it costs a meter and you can get punished (I think). You can try 360 but… yeah, easiest thing to bait and punish in the game.

Best stick to blocking or backdashing, and if someone starts OSing your backdash… just block. You’re better off resetting the situation and reapplying pressure than waking up with something when your opponent has the advantage.

i find him incredibly awkward to play with…it’s hard to really dominate with him as easily as zangief not to mention it’s not that hard to overwhelm hugo when he gets knocked down

i think everyone is on this guy becuase his combos are really easy and good if you catch someone you do like half damage…but if you start getting rushed down from him the only thing you can do is try to lariet through and hope for the best…he atleast can get through fireballs ok though…

hugo is the best grappler as well as one of the best overall characters in the game. i am almost 100% convinced of this. if you stick with him now and learn your shit you would be doing yourself a huge favor. not only does he have insane damage output (god forbid u get hit by one of those clap combos), simply by his sheer size u can cover a regular wakeup as well as a forward roll. his charge up move is probably the best one in the game. and finally his meta game of being put second and playing your point character conservatively is so godlike, if you can work up a small lifelead you can turtle it out with hugo for a timeout victory incredibly easily.

i do that sometimes when im meter plentiful or for jump ins i just preserve meter and use the regular back breaker. The :d: :hp: as an air to air allows you to either back breaker after or use the bnb with a lariat > cr.lp > lariat or back breaker. it can only be done a few times before the enemy tries to hit you back.

I’m trying to think of possible teams for hugo on second that let him start a standing combo. I know kens tatsu and chuns ex bird kick will do it? Does anyone else have a similar move? Tried rolentos baton twirl canceling of the second hit, no dice. Can only get a jab in not a c.mp.

it just seems like I’m using my normals to poke the opponent a lot when i use hugo
and if i get knocked down…it’s hard to recover from that

ppl getting off saying hugo is one of the best characters in the game where all his normals except for lights are at frame disadvantage on block xD

trust me, i am not one to say that a character is amazing without truly believing it. i think you’re just delusional and inexperienced. if you tune into level up right now you can watch the archive and see clakey d win grand finals for the team tournament by himself with hugo.
