The buttons on the SE suck…but after checking out lizardlick’s site and seeing that they’ve extended their shutdown another week, I decided to do something about them last night.
I remembered seeing that ult. JLF mod, and that the guy was using small pieces of paper to make the switches engage earlier. This is all I had to do to them. I took the buttons out, removed the plunger and placed a disc of printer paper over the microswitch. Snap the plunger back on.
I haven’t played on sanwas, so I can’t compare, but this seriously made all the difference in the world and had a side effect of turning my SE into a stealth stick…so much quieter lol.
@2XL- You may have been looking at the 360 sticks, they are 10 bucks more than the ps3 sticks.
Thanks to everyone in this thread for the help. Been working on my SE stick the past couple days, finally got it done.
I came across one problem when I went to test it though, everything works except my Home/Turbo buttons (PS3). I took everything out at one point, since I painted the case, which probably has something to do with it (may have put it in wrong). Anybody have any tips, or have the same problem? It’s not a huge issue, but not having the Home button work could be a little inconvenient. Thanks in advance.
I got my SE stick today! about an hour ago. I got it off ebay for 86.00 which is hell cheap compared to other ones, I think I only got it because it said USED in the title. Well it is in great shape, I even opened it up and the washer hasnt scratched anything yet.
now this is my first stick, and naturally I sucked. my hands even hurt a little…lol
I deffinately am happy, and although the stock parts are generic, I find them OK. I have replacement parts coming from AKI very soon, and will post some pics soon!
could someone explain what the “gel” refers to in this guide? sorry tried to search but couldn’t find the answer. and I am a newb at this stuff. thank you for your time.
hello ppl…
i just ordered a Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP-8Y-SK (http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/products/JLF-TP-8Y-SK.htm) without a mounting plate so I planned to use the SE stock stick mounting plate. The thing is that i drilled out the bolts from the SE stock stick (only way to get them out seriously :P) and i need new bolts and nuts for exact match…
I got my JLF and Sanwa buttons in last night (took longer than expected, stupid MadCatz screws). Everything was working fine, tried it again a couple hours later and 30 minutes into playing the joystick just stopped working. Opened it up and realized that the 5-pin connector was coming loose.
Well, from not even touching my SE stick nor even close to opening it yet… I would suggest try to get some electrical tape (black tape, kind of like a rubbery substance) and taping the 5pin connector to the joystick’s. It should stay if not, you can always superglue ;]
No, I got them out without an issue. Although I never did actually use them. You just need the perfect size screw driver, and take your time. Go slow, yet firm. That’s what she said.
what is a wire harness and do i need a wire harness if i want to replace the stick and buttons for a SE stick? (i am planning to get 1x Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT, and 6x obsf-30)
its hard man, really hard… if you are lucky to get them out good for you… mine was impossible so i drilled them through just to take apart the mounting plate… now im stuck with not knowing which new 4 screws and nuts i need to buy for my new sanwa jlf joystick with my se fightstick mounting plate… anyone?
The wire harness connects the joystick to the pcb. No, you don’t need one, there’s one wired to the pcb in the stick, just need to plug in the new stick.
You’re looking at M4 machine screws to replace the original 4 corner screws on the stock stick with a JLF.
The screw holes on the sides are M3 machine screws. I found this out trying to drop in the LS-32-01 I ordered, the original screws didn’t fit in the sides. If that wasn’t annoying enough, I come to find out that none of the hardware stores in my area carry M3 screws. I didn’t want to order anything else online because my parts took long enough to come as it is. So I had to take a drill bit and carefully drill in the hole to make it wider for the new M4 screws I bought to fit. It’s kinda ghetto, but its in there snug and works.
