The how to mod your SFIV SE Fightstick FAQ

Sorry for the noob question, but what exactly is the wiring harness? I’m waiting on someone to get home because it seems like they’ve hid the tool I need to open up the stick, but just in case. Don’t wanna’ tamper with the wrong thing. If it was the wiring harness though, would it affect just a few points of direction, or would it be the whole stick?

It’s what it name implies… a bunch of wires harnessed together. But specifically the harness leads from the stick itself to the main PCB. One of those wires could be loose in the harness, or the harness may not be plugged in all the way at either end.

I’ve checked the connections with the wiring harness, and all of them seem to be connected well. But the problem still remains.

Guessing it’s a faulty wire? Really hoping it’s not though. Especially since it was working before. I guess it could just have shitted out on me.

I’ve played on both Sanwa and Seimitsu Seimitsu are a bit more tight.

Actually I have a Sanwa installed in my SE fight stick I just used the spring from both the stock stick and the Sanwa together and now it’s really good.

Got the idea from this vid that some other genius posted, cheers

Now, just gotta get my buttons from sticking

Yeah, it’s probably one of the wires going bad. It won’t be easy to fix unless you know how to solder. If you or a friend does, installing a new wire will be no big deal. Or just try using a different wiring harness.

What spring did you use from the stock? Where is it located?

Thank you, I might go with Seimitsu… but I am worry the short throw of Seimitsu might bother me… How did you manage to get the E clip off on the SE fight stick?

Damn, I was afraid of that. I might just buy a Cthulu board for my custom stick in the meantime then. Thanks for all your help man. Greatly appreciated.

How do you use a different wiring harness  How would I go about using the one with the JLF to get one end fit into the PCB…

I guess I’ll post this in here, but what exactly is the type of wiring I’d need to replace the ones already in use via the wiring harness? If I go to a hardware store, I won’t know what to look for. Also, I’m assuming the pcb they used is a regular ps3 non-axis controller? I dunno. I’m new to all this and kinda’ in the dark.

The SF4 sticks use custom PCBs (multiple PCBs linked together by wires, actually) and yeah, they do not have Sixaxis motion controls.

Mkfighter I was under the impression that the wiring harness that comes with the SE stick is fully compatible with JLF (and Seimitsu LS-32-01) sticks. Just remove the original harness, being careful not to break the wires out of the plug.

Jissai basically I would go to Radio Shack and get some thin non-stranded wire, the thinnest you can find. The higher the gauge, the thinner it is. So 22 AWG wire is thicker than 26 AWG wire. But even 22 AWG wire would work if you soldered it directly to the right spots.

Hey everybody,

Im the new guy around here so please go easy on me
First of all a big thanks for all these nice guides helping people new to modding etc. (like myself) GINORMOUS thumbs up to all of you!

As you can probably tell from my post in this particular part of the forum Ive decided to get a MadCatz FightStick SE, for the TE FightStick is simply unavailable in Germany and wont be well into late May/June (at least from what Ive been told by various retailers).
The MadCatz Stick will be my first Arcade Stick (as playing PacMan with the NES Advantage doesnt compare very well to playing SF IV imo) but from what Ive read so far on these boards there seem to be problems with the stock parts.
Thats why I decided to swap these out for some Seimitsu/Sanwa parts but this is where the confusion starts

First of all Id like to use the Seimitsu LS-32-01 but Ive read somewhere else that the Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate would only fit Sanwa joysticks Is that true? What about the GT-0? Same problem here or are both compatible with the LS-32-01?

Next thing Im concerned about is the buttons. Here Id definitely like to have Seimitsu parts because I simply like flat top buttons better than convex ones. (Currently Im playing SF IV on a MadCatz FightPad and I like the feel of the flat ones a thousand times better than the regular X360 controllers uberconvex face buttons.)
As I live in Germany I was going to buy my parts @ arcadeshop . de where I found the PS-14-G-BK series of buttons.
(http://www.arcadeshop.de/product_info.php?products_id=691&language=en) (<- Sry, if this is considered an advert, this site doesn’t pay me or anything)
Problem is on the front page it says that (only?) PS-14-K, PS-14-P, PS-15 will fit easily, but these are all convex buttons :frowning: Could someone please clarify this for me? I would really like to fit the G-BK series buttons in there!

Thanks a million times

Yes Mufflon, the Sanwa octagonal restrictor does not fit on Seimitsu LS-32-01 sticks. The only place I know of to get an octagonal restrictor for that stick is from TheRealNeoGeo’s site. But I can’t actually find the product there…

The buttons you linked to will fit in the stick. Any 30 mm Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons will fit. The only ones that have issues are those that use screw-on nuts, but you can just file the nut down a little if needed.

My modding experience w/the SE stick

Hi all,

Just wanted to report on my experience with modding my SE stick. I ordered 8 Sanwa snap ins and a JLF w/8 way gate from Lizard Lick over the long weekend and received them yesterday afternoon.

I hit the aforementioned 90 degree rotation issue w/the JLF, and it caused me to nearly rip my hair out. The last screw that mounted the stick to its mounting plate was stuck tight, and I had to damn near destroy the screw before I could get it out enough to remove it w/some pliers.

Once that was done, though, I used one of the screws from the SE joystick and all was well. All in all, not a difficult job, but I should have stuck w/a better screwdriver to have avoided my situation.

Thanks again for the great write-up!

Thanks Bomberman for clearing this up for me
So I guess theres not so much difference between the LS-32-01 and the JLF-TP-8YT except the price tag  I just wanted to have Stick and buttons by Seimitsu but i figure i wouldn’t get used to a square gate easily, so Sanwa is the way to go joystick-wise ^^
Thanks again

No problem, Mufflon. Actually the Seimitsu LS-32 sticks have a different feel than Sanwa JLFs… Many believe that Seimitsu sticks are superior for 2D shooters (like R-Type). But you can still make a Sanwa stick match your Seimitsu buttons by purchasing a Seimitsu balltop - they fit on Sanwa sticks too.

so I dunno if this has posted already;

but I have a 360se stick and was wondering if I could make it like the TE stick so i can use it on 360 and ps3 alike… just curiouse D:

PandaBurr yeah that’s been posted. Check out here:

He’s the guy to ask! You’ll need to purchase a Cthulhu board from http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/boards.shtml for $40.

But just so you know, the TE stick doesn’t automatically work with both systems. You’d have to install an extra PCB like Zombie did with the SE stick.

The TE doesn’t work with both consoles. But it is possible to dual mod the SE so that it does both 360 and PS3.

It is compatible, but that last point…I was removing the harness from the stick without cutting the glue off. That must’ve gotten the middle wire loose (I can only move right when I wiggle the middle wire). Needless to say, when I tried to fix this I just made matters much worse, so I’ll need to replace the entire wiring harness.
