The how to deal with durpy stuff thread. Exploring install supers, more missiles

because I’m meter-conscious and Shield Slash is so stupid that when spaced correctly, is really difficult to punish with Strange without burning meter/XF. AA Mystic Sword L is 50-50 against my friend who gets away with assistless SS spam because it’s that good and Strange can’t do much about it. :\

I would just mash on L daggers and M mystic swords. It only has one point of durability any way.

I got hit out of startup sometimes though. also, Mystic Sword M having hitboxes behind Strange (the first hit I think out of 2) saved my life a couple of times vs his teleport-happy Vergil.

i’m not understanding your point because you’ll have plenty of meter after [SoV>XF>teleport>combo]
what are you saving the meter for that trumps killing two characters at once?

he’s using Shield Slash without assists but he’s spacing it correctly. just outside of Strange’s Mystic Sword M so it doesn’t hit him immediately, but the Shield can hit him out of its startup and stuffs Doom’s Plasma Beam assist too. why did you assume I would be getting 2 characters anyway? never said anything about that. SoV punish also requires the opponent’s assist to be in the same spot or behind the point character otherwise Strange will teleport in between them and won’t catch the assist-- which isn’t too consistent if the Cap player is jumping back and throwing shields.

I’m assuming maziodyne is talking about offline play, where the ability to input a teleport doesn’t guarantee victory. There is little incentive to call an assist while throwing the shield anyway as it will just fuck up your follow ups. That really depends on the assist though. I don’t play against strange often but I think you could charging star against mystic sword on reaction as well. I don’t really know how Strange could beat cap, but a random teleport is not good cap will kill him with one meter even if he starts at zero. Rushdown Doom should do fine according to my above post.

sorry bout that. i guess i just can’t envision strange having difficulty with naked spaced shield slashes. not trying to downplay you or anything. i’d ask what happens when you ground teleport, but i’m sure you’ve tried that. how about neutral jump then teleport?

nah it’s cool man. Shield Slash puts Strange in an aggravating amount of hit/blockstun which stuffs most of Strange non-hyper reversal tools when spaced correctly anyway. that dumb Shield is a projectile and a frame trap all in one, ugh. I got lucky sometimes when I saw that he was in range for AA Mystic Sword L but against a better Cap player I’m not sure that would work. haven’t tried teleports as a defensive option much against Cap actually, I’ll give that a shot the next time we run sets.

why not just jump and grab if your that close for mystic sword anti air or with doom super jump laser finger air dash down you have to be patient and inch closer with doom , i doubt that hes doing perfect spacing everytime.

^well with Strange, Mystic Sword L can AA from about jump range (character dependent, but it’s Cap so it’ll work from that range) so I usually try to stay at that distance in case I don’t get a hit confirm with Impact Palm. Shield Slash puts Strange is considerable blockstun, not to mention his wavedash is terribad, so it would be kind of risky to dash up and grab. I went 51-16 against him in our FT50 anyway, basically the whole ordeal for me was to not get impatient and press buttons against that damn frame trap of a projectile.

I was just wondering how to deal with that lol. Patience is a virtue vs CapAm

Vergil assist + teleport (playing magneto/strange/doom)

Guess.

Depends on the assist but for the most part your best bet is to try and stay above the assist and bait it. Then try to come down on top of him so that he doesn’t have space to call it again. If the assist + teleport thing is that annoying if you can land a hit snap in the assist and get rid of him as best you can. If worst comes to worst at least you mess up their team order.

I was watching some tourney footage from the past Big Two between Chris G and Masta CJ in the grand finals and I feel he did a solid job showing off some ways to pressure people abusing assist + port.

27 minutes in >>>> http://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky/b/303290962 Chris G forced a lot of air throws with Hawkeye’s big hit box j.H to stop the normal above opponent teleport pressure that Dorm likes to abuse with assist. Generally did a good job staying above the area of the assist.

LOL

although I want to say react to it, it’s hard to defend against if it’s your first time seeing it. Familiarize yourself with the set up. It may get you a thousand times but that next time, you’ll eventually block it. You have to train your eyes basically. So for now, he’s right. The best you can do is guess.

I fought this guy once and he used Dante/Wesker/Strider. That team has like ridiculous mix-up potential that I would always fall for. He’d abuse this ridiculous set up again and again and it always worked. Eventually though, a good 10 matches in, I learned how to block it.

One was basically Wesker’s (H) up teleport in conjunction with the Strider assist. I first had to block the strider assist and then block wesker’s ambigious Air. S (depending on spacing) which is an overhead. So that one mix-up was essentially 3 mix-ups. He also used it on incoming characters in which he would Air. H with wesker, strider’s teleport would come out then he would teleport in the air and cross me up with Air. S. And if I didn’t block a single hit, in both instances obviously, he’d get a free combo off the Strider assist or through hit confirming. What he did with Dante was even more crazy and I don’t even feel like explaining that. 30 matches in and I would still get caught with Dante/Strider mixups.

Yeah Strider assist lends itself to some of the dumbest resets and mix-ups in the game. Snap him in and kill him it will be worth the effort.

Also…kill Strider as an assist for bonus points.

1.You don’t have to deal with Anchor/Assist Strider
2. You don’t have to use meter for the snapback.

There is no reason not to get rid of that character. He is annoying as FUCK!

Thanks for the info, also that’s funny because my team has been Chun/Doom/Phoenix since vanilla and I’ve NEVER encountered another player with the same team, but always thought it would be fun to play against, or annoying according to all the people who’ve lost to me  Do you play on PSN or XBL?

Just curious if you remember how that guy’s Chun did against your Hulk and what tactics were used. Also my assist for Chun is Plasma Beam and lots of it, but I just find that the standing H of Hulk has such better range then Chun’s normals that its difficult to even punish Hulk’s standing H if it was done from its farthest reach. Plus all the Gamma charging around the screen, how do you best counter that?

No problem. I have an xbox, PM me your GT if you have one and I’ll add ya. What he did mostly used were mix-ups when I was blocking his beam assist and exchanges, most notably up and side exchanges. Another thing I remember is him capitalizing on punishes, being patient, and making me chase him. I personally don’t think the beam is helpful in maximizing Chun’s offense, but that’s just me. It worked because he had Phoenix, but without her I think that match would be more advantageous to me.
