The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

With Hornswoggle lol. WWE films has two Horror offerings coming up, that and See No Evil 2.

Still haven’t seen the first SNE, may check it out soon to see if it is shitty good or just shitty shitty.

ssf2 Cammy k.o. Nooooooo!

Without Warrick Davis, this lep is a hack
Whoever thought this was good must’ve been smoking crack!

See No Evil wasn’t too bad actually. Basically a lame Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Psycho.

Just watched a Canadian horror movie End of the Line.
Pretty good movie.

For the truly tasteless like myself…evolution of The Human Centipede is here gentlemen.

See No Evil 2

I watched Cheap Thrills the other day. It kind of is along the line of Would You Rather, but in my opinion a bit better and raw. I liked how the dares felt totally random. Not so much a horror movie, more like a dark and gory comedy maybe?

Almost that time of the month for Horror lovers, where one month out of the year I don’t seem weird to people for watching people get murdered. At least mine is based mostly on fiction, unlike the mass of people who love those true crime shows and watch dem marathons.

Anyways been stocking up: Got the BD collection of Universal Monsters, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon.

Plan to get the new Halloween BD mega set and Nightbreed: Director’s Cut this month as well. Halloween set only interests me for the three versions of the original (Including the Television cut) and Curse’s alternate work print being fixed up and brought out for the first time.

Nightbreed is a similar situation, Clive Barker’s original vision and cut of the film being fully restored and released. Totally excited for it.

Anyone else getting in the spirit this upcoming month?

Wow I did not know this. I love that movie. Dr. Decker was an underrated villain in the Horror genre.

Anyway I could use some suggestions for my 31 Days of Horror list. Basically I watch a horror movie each day in October and review it and stuff. Last year was kind of a mess, but I am trying to have a better structure. Debating If I want to divide the week by genre:

Week 1: Zombies
Week 2: Home Invasion
Week 3: paranormal
Week 4: Slasher/B Movies

That is a tentative list, but it was an idea I was working with. I could use some other genres as well. So yeah I am slowly building my list of the 31 movies that I will watch. But I can always use some suggestions as far as good movies to review.

Also anyone can chime in besides from AYO!. The more input the better.

I need to get around to catching Babadook & Exist, been a decent year for horror movies.

I used to have a big list in those genres before the site reset and I lost the old thread. I’ll get around to giving you stuff to cover and edit this post. Mix of things people know and things hardly known if I can find them.

Thing is when you do this, and you’ve done it before, everyone has done it. But you can put your own personal stamp and approach to it by giving your own views and how the films affected you. So instead of being all informative you can throw some of your personality in. I’d be interested in reading it as well.

Of course. I know last year I finished with A Serbian Film and I talked about how it made me feel like I needed to take a shower afterward, and I felt that it was poisoning my hdd for being on there. Here is my list so far.

  • The Sacrament
  • Banshee Code
  • Here Comes the Devil
  • Killers (tentative)
  • Macabre
  • Maniac

Like I said it is a small list so far and it will be revised. But I feel like I have seen sooo many horror movies that I feel like there has been a drought of good horror as of late. Honestly I have been watching mass OG Twilight Zone episodes.

Twilight Zone totally legit, could do a whole month of episodes lol. I still want the BD’s of that to see the Season 5 episodes I believe, since they aren’t shown often nor are on Netflix. I think that is when they ran the hour long episodes. But I digress.

Slasher genre is one of my favorites so here is some you could check out:

The Burning
Alice Sweet Alice
My Bloody Valentine OG
Sleepaway Camp
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
House of Wax (1953 remake)
Tourist Trap
Corruption (1968)
Driller Killer OG
The Boogeyman (1980)
Savage Weekend
The Prowler
Intruder

Zombie wise most people know all the great films to pick (Most Romero romps, RoTLD, etc.) so you could show off some lesser known ones or under appreciated sequels:

Prince of Darkness
Night of the Comet
Night of the Creeps
Return of the Living Dead II-III
Splinter
Versus
Hell of the Living Dead
The Beyond
City of the Living Dead
Dawn of The Mummy
Dead & Buried
Dead Snow
Tombs of the Blind Dead
One Dark Night

Thanks. I know Dead Snow is on my list for sure. Slasher, I am going to mess with Slumber Party Massacre 1+2 and some cheesy 80’s stuff (Not sure if the Maniac Cop series falls under that genre).

Yeah the OG Twilight Zone series is good stuff. I am trying to get my wife to get into it but she can’t. She has been on a horror kick as well. She asked me for some a good ghost story movie, so we watched Oculus (I thought it was ok). But I am trying to get more involved in the supernatural stories as well.

What about stuff like Eraserhead?
Worth nothing, yeah?

Eraserhead is a classic, but I have seen it enough times to where I am now looking for stuff I have never watched (good or bad).

Watched The Wolf Man BD transfer last night, being one of my favorites to see how the quality is. It was pretty beautiful, not a lot of film grain and the effect of fire and other bright objects would pop off the screen. Lon Chaney’s silver headed wolf cane gleamed, the rolling fog and set pieces looked beautiful. Only thing I noticed is some of the movie magic was made more apparent like the old use of green screens sticking out like a sore thumb.

I’ll be checking the rest out as well as the Spanish version of Dracula to see if they are up to snuff. But so far I am pretty happy with my purchase, the extras included and the wealth of commentary and additional features on the discs. Now if I can just get the rest of them on BD…as well as a Hammer collection, I’d be good on classical Horror.

Wait, you put Mattei’s epic shitfest Hell of the Living Dead on there but no Burial Ground, Zombie Holocaust, Zombi 3 and 4, or Nightmare City/City of the Walking Dead? For shame. Revenge of the Living Dead Girls is worth checking out (It was on Netflix 2-3 years ago and it was uncut) surprisingly gory WTF-ness French zombie flick on par with the Italian shit.

As far as genuinely good Z flicks there’s Jean Rollin’s Les Raisin De La Morte (Grapes of Death) and the kinda’ sorta’ zombie/vampire flick Living Dead Girl.

I made a growing list of movies to watch in October too but I couldn’t wait and started watching them already. Started with a documentary(kinda) “Terror in the Aisles”, followed by Maniac Cop (AWESOME) and saw “Killers”(2014) the other day. Still considering on getting the Nightbreed Bluray…

Maniac Cop is sooo dope. I liked Killers but it wasn’t what I thought. I heard Macabre is really good too. I will most likely get the Nightbreed BR, I really want to see all that was cut out.
