The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

Zombie lake had a lot of pre-plastic tit and vag shots so I approve of that. But it did drag on a lot. Not the worst zombie film I’ve seen but not the best. Just forgettable. Also weren’t the zombie Nazis or am I thinking of the other underwater Nazi Zombie film with Peter Cushing lol.

Probably watch Antropophagus or Rats tonight.

They were Nazi Zombies. The worst zombie flick I’ve ever seen would be Joel Reed’s Night of the Zombies which has maybe 2 zombies in it, no gore, almost no nudity, confusing plot, and nothing really happening until the end.

Anthropophagus is awesome if you enjoy slashers. The middle drags a bit but the 3rd act is fucking amazing.

I did find my DVD copy of Zombie last night while going through some old stuff. Haven’t seen it in years, looking forward to watching it again.

I’ve seen Anthropophagus before, but I’m honestly having a hard time remembering much about it. Must have been too stoned, I don’t know.

What’s some good shit on Netflix right now? I’m in the mood for some good 70s/80s Italian stuff.

They recently added Nightmare City on Netflix which is decent but makes no sense, like most Italian films. The new transfer of Day of the Dead is also up if your are on an HD TV. I have the BD of it, and it is lovely.

Checking Instant Watcher and assuming that these are still on Netflix I’d recommend:

ABC’s of Death
Maniac (2012 remake)
Dust Devil
Slugs (Gory, so bad it’s good, killer slug flick)
Bay of Blood (Mario Bava proto-slasher classic, quite a few Mario Bava films seem to be on there too)
Female Vampire (I’m not a fan of Jess Franco, but a lot of Franco fans seem to like this one, if you’re curious this might be something to check out.)
Fascination (Jean Rollin arthouse vampire flick, good place to start if you’re curious about Rollin. They might have other Rollin films on there and if so I’d check out Grapes of Death and Living Dead Girl).
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (Really good neo-slasher flick).

slugs is pretty awesome, I remember seeing that and The Nest featured in one of my Horrorhound issues and sought them out.

It also has a genuinely awesome head explosion scene.

Oddly enough, I recently watched both of those in one day. I think the opening to Day of the Dead is one of the creepiest scenes in any horror movie. I love the guy screaming “Hello!” while the city comes to life. So to speak. Gives you everything you need to know about how fucked the world is immediately.

And yeah, Nightmare City makes no sense at all. Not great, better than Zombie Lake though.

I’m not sure I’ve seen Slugs, if I have it’s been a long ass time. I’ll check it out tonight maybe.

Nightmare City is a classic…good deaths, good pacing, nonsensical…what more do you want?

Slugs was one of my favorites as a kid…especially the lettuce death scene. I was into all the creature features big time - killer ants, killer bees, killer worms…the smaller the better

Also looking forward to the Halloween box set that was announced last week, mainly because we will finally get an official release of the H6 Producer’s Cut! Although I already own 1-5 on Blu… Now if we could only get the director’s cut of Hellraiser: Bloodline, I could die happy.

Oh snap, V/H/S/ 3? Hype!

I think the theatrical cut of Halloween 6 was better. It made less sense but the gore was pretty good at least.

Not sure I want the box set honestly, already have 1-3 on BD and I like those. 4-5 are whatever, but 6 in both forms would be nice to have. Hopefully it gets its own released after hype dies down for the set.

You guys recommend any Korean/Japanese horror?

Korean Horror:

Park Chan Wook Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance).
Three Extremes (Asian Horror anthology)
A Tale of Two Sisters
I Saw the Devil
Tell Me Something

Japanese Horror:

Anything by Takashi Miike from 1996 all the way till 2003 or 4.
Uzumaki
Suicide Club
Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood
Naked Blood
Star of David: Beauty Hunting AKA Beautiful Girl Hunter
Tokyo Gore Police
Entrails of a Virgin

Only movie I’ve seen from your list is A Tale of Two Sisters, which was awesome. I’ll definitely strive to check out the whole list, very much preciate it.

Grotesque
I Saw the Devil

No, get a life you fuckin weeb

I guarantee you the weaboo’s wouldn’t like Ichi the Killer.

Now, if it starred a loli then you would be onto something.

Ichi-San the Loli Lover seems like a stellar idea. Japan make it happen.

The book was WAY better, and actually made sense.
