The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

I know i’m going beyond popular opinion, but got around to watching sinister the other night and was overall pleased by it. The thing i like about this one and insidious is the overall atmosphere they setup which gives it that extra eeriness/creep factor. Those two movies managed to give me chills down my spine. The way the music and background is setup, it’s just too S tier. On top of that, an ending you don’t quite forsee coming.

I try to catch Shaun of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead whenever it airs on television every chance I get.

Oh, crap, I saw that shit (Alice Sweet Alice) back when I was a kid…good flick. I think a recent movie KINDA ripped on it.

Oh, and Werewolf: The Beast Amongst Us surprisingly is not half bad. Not as awesome as Dog Soldiers, but very good in all areas: setting, dialogue and acting, and sfx (no hokey-looking cgi, great suit).

What are your opinions on the British Horror and New French Extremity? I actually have to write a paper for my film class on any topic and I was thinking maybe a American vs British vs French vs Spanish vs A Serbian Film. Anyway, do any of you guys like Ti West (He directed the husband and wife scene in VHS). I am liking his tone in making good scary atmospheres, but I feel he falls short with endings (for example The Innkeepers and The House of the Devil had very lackluster endings). Also I am about to dedicate the last week of October to classic horror movies, so what should I watch? Here is my list so far:
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Phantasm
Hellraiser
The Blob
The Wraith (though it is very cheesy)

Gonna go watch Sinister this Friday night, I heard that the first half’s good but then things go downhill… and a lot of jumpscares…

One of the homies was telling me the exact same thing, in regards to Sinister.

I’m really late on the “American Horror Story” bandwagon. Just watched it for the first time. Guess I need to go watch season 1, because I have zero idea what the actual fuck is going on. This chief Nun is a boss though.

Good docu:

Season Two is actually a new story with one returning actress in a new role that I know of. First Season is supposed to be independent of Season Two.

DJ Hyper Kid: Check my list post and thoughts on Ti West on the previous page.

Okay, after reading what you said, I agree totally. Ti West is good for letting the movie take a long ass time to get where it needs to be. I think he has potential (especially after his segment in VHS). But I would like for his stuff to be a bit faster pace. Also have you or anyone else on here seen Excision? I have been wanting to discuss it with someone, but no one has seen it (It is pretty new).

Trailer for “Mama”

Also, anyone seen this

i really enjoyed the movie The Strangers. Seemed like it was a bit underrated.

I really liked it too. It was the kinda of horror movie I had been waiting for as far as ambiance is concerned. I just wish that the killer’s personalities and motives had been toned down a bit to keep more mystery and that the ending hadn’t been so ridiculously brutal and stupid.

Showed some of my club member the first bit of Battle Royale.

They stopped watching as soon as that girl got a knife in her forehead.

They wouldn’t be able to handle the rest of the movie if THAT got to them.

If they think that is bad, then you should show them Martyrs, The Human Centipede 2 or A Serbian Film. You may just scar them for life by showing them those movies.

Okay, so I just watched Session 9. That movie was so bad that I could not understand why it was even made. It was an embarrassment to the Horror genre. Well I am going to watch Chained and Silent House in a bit. I hope those are good.

Even I hated The Human Centipede. That movie is shit. Just awful. There was really no point in watching the movie because of the ending, which is just…well, shit.

Not really, it was a controversial film among the community for a while. As in, half the community absolutely loved the film and thought it was the next messiah. Whereas the other half though it was a boring, plodding film that settled to long on shots and rushed the ending.

On Bloody-disgusting this thread has been going for like, years lol.

So netflix took Black Sunday off as fast as it was put up, no idea why. Bay of Blood and some other great Bava films are still up so that is alright.

I haven’t read this whole thread but does anyone have any recommendations for psychological horror that really gets in your head? That’s what I like more than bloody slasher films. Stuff like Jacob’s Ladder, The Shining, Eraserhead, etc.

I also saw Enter the Void recently, while I wouldn’t classify it as horror, it was pretty disturbing.

Triangle, Kill List, Wicker Man (OG), Wicker Tree off the top of my head. If I think of more I’ll post them up.

Cannibal Holocaust bro.

Can’t go wrong with the Three Masters of Italian Horror:

Seriously.

Mario Bava: Bay of Blood aka Twitch of the Death Nerve, Black Sunday, Shock, and Black Sabbath.

Dario Argento: Suspiria, Tenebre, Phenomena, and Deep Red.

Lucio Fulci: Zombie, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, and House by the Cemetery.
