The Horror games thread, SOMA is out now

Anyone get REmaster? I watched a bit of it on Twitch last night and it looks really good.

The mirror room creeped me out so much that I never went back into it after my first run, and when I didn’t have the game memorized I checked the map to make sure I avoided entering it (I think it’s examining room 4). Hell when I looked it up on the SH wiki it only scared me more.

Anyway I’m about to clear up my backlog, any suggestions for a game I should play? I have a PS3, and I’ve already played the RE and SH games.

Yeah REMaster is pretty good. Running at 60FPS is awesome though aside from the graphical improvements and 60FPS, not much has changed from the GC version but I’ll play through it more if I see anything new.

I started Condemned 2: Bloodshot the other day and that’s actually been a pretty solid game so far. Would also reccomend Dead Space, F.E.A.R., Siren, Lone Survivor, and Demon’s Souls (kind of) if you’re looking for something more RPG-heavy.

Oh, and The Evil Within too.

perhaps the only game that both sprite, live-action and 3D versions in all three games.
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within was much more polished than Phantasmagoria.

Realms of the Haunting as well. I’d add Bad Mojo too.** Harvester ** had the best potential and took things to the extreme. But it was a very clumsy and unforgiving game, requiring constant saving. It also pushed censorship to the limits. Manhunt 2 and Punisher tried to make something similar, but the final version was toned down compared to the leaked version. Even so, regarding horror I prefer live-action movie make-up effects to 3D graphics,

But on PC I actually preferred sprite based horror games. **Shadow of the Comet **was perhaps one of the best horror adventure games I played
Also the Elvira trilogy (Waxworks, Mistress of the Dark, Jaws of Cerberus) take you into classic horror-rpg and they’re difficult as well.

@Lightz‌

Have you used the new controls in the Remake remaster?

how many times do they need to remake RE1? Why not part 2

RE1 was remade once.

Yeah and it’s not bad. Honestly I kinda prefer it over the original tank controls but that’s just me.

Someone edited the P.T. demo into a found footage movie. Shit is really good, and I still get nervous watching it (and I’ve beaten it before). Either way, in a sense I wouldn’t mind if this is what the final product of Silent Hills is like, really loved the ambiance and claustrophobic feeling of something hemming you up at any moment.

I’ve never played SH (on my list for 2015 for sure!), but I do know that when you hold a game in such high regard as you do with SH2, it becomes impossible for you to let yourself fully enjoy any other game similar to it, because you’ll always compare it to that older game and with the nostalgia assist, you probably won’t give that new game the credit it deserves out of fear of it being superior to your precious memories of the first game. I think all SRK’ers including myself have been guilty of donning the rose tinted lenses a few times lol.

On the last page I linked @Femto an 8 bit version of SH2 maybe that’s what you’re looking for? Ask him how it is.

Anyways I was gushing about one true survival horror game a few weeks ago in VGG, Teleglitch is the shit.

-Ammo is super scarce, you will not be able to kill everything sometimes you need to run or use your knife, which requires a lot of skill to kill without getting hit
-Combat is very intense every enemy encounter is potential game over, permadeth FTW
-Semi randomly generated levels and loot so memorization won’t help as much
-Crafting items is fun
-You seek out the story Souls style
-It’s just really hard overall

Anyone try out Claire? Looks interesting:

For gamecube, and now HD for PS3, that makes 2 times. This is a other trailer for silent hills

@orochizoolander if you get a chance to play P.T. I think you will like it. I loved SH2/3 so much, and I think they brought something new to the survival horror genre. But they would make me nervous not scared. The only games prior to playing P.T. that had me genuinely scared was Amnesia and Outlast. P.T. actually had me stop playing because I was on so much of an edge. I have high hopes though.

A port is not a remake.

Picked up Dying Light, see how it is. Going to do a Kenshiro run.

Watatatattaatatata! All day

lemme know how it is, I really wanna buy that game, but having trouble justifying paying full price for another game I might only play for 3 days.

No discussion about Summer Camp?

Dying Light is pretty fun but once you start to level up and get into the special weapons the difficulty just drops off. It’s fun to play in co-op though and drop kicking zombies never gets old. It’s not exactly scary either with survivor sense and the mini map showing you where the big baddies are at night. Steam summer sales aren’t too far off so if you’re planning on grabbing it for PC it might be worth waiting for.

Surprised at how not shitty it is so far in comparison to other techland games. Also looks really nice.

VAs and general story are terrible but that doesn’t bother me, just want to punch zambies into oblivion.

Think the last jump scare I had was in the Evolve beta, I didn’t expect that rock to just be a giant terrifying frog who eats me while boosting around.

You guys need to hop on Teleglitch, I’d rather play this than Dying Light or most other horror games anyday, then again Dying Light looks surprisingly decent will pick it up during steam summer sale.

@DJH won’t try P.T. until I try SH lol.

Humble Bundle gave it away for free on their front page promo’s where I picked it up. It is a damn hardass game.

RE:Revelations was good for tension & mood, which will be interesting if that Part 2 keeps that up. Comes out Feb 24. But Barry/Claire look-- particularly not very good remodels. Like generic action heros.
