Whose ready to completely trick out their VLX with the Brook UFB and keep the guts stock (minus the PCB)? I know I am! Iāve been toiling away for the past couple weeks getting this ready and tested. Today, I can confirm victory! This mod will literally take 10 minutes and ANYONE can do it. Price is TBD, I need to figure out some minor cost things, but Arcade Shock and I are going full steam ahead on it and hope to have a completely solder-less kit for you guys!
It will come with everything you need, requires NO cutting of any stock cables. No changing of any stock connectors.
Simply unplug everything from the main Hori Board, fit the helper down into the same spot. Plug the cables into it. And fit the Brook Board down onto it. Voila, your VLX now works on 4 systems with auto-detection.
- PS/SHARE/L3/R3 all work!
- DP/LS switch works. No RS support because of the way the Brook board works and the way the stock Hori Aux PCB is setup.
- No turbo support. The Hori uses a switch where the Brook is looking for a momentary push switch.
- No Player LED support. The Hori setup is incompatible with the UFB without cutting traces and mucking up the stick.
Awesome!
What about the touchpad?
You know where some of my tax return is going for my Kuro VLX and VLX Hayabusa
Yes TP CLICK works too. Disconnect the ribbon and attach it to my helper.
This looks amazing! Hoping this will work on my VLX diamond!
the vlx diamond is a ps3 stick so it has a different pcb for the turbo panel. you will most likely have to wire it up manually to get the buttons to work. The rest of the joystick should work just fine though.
Anyone know where I can get VLX thumbscrews from?
They look like PC case thumb screws. I am not sure if the threads match.
I tried, unfortunately they didnāt fit⦠the VLX ones seem to be thinner and longer
There also more than one size for PC case screws. I just canāt think of the smaller size threads at the moment.
I would say Lian Li case Screws but they are too short.
I think you are looking for a M4x8 thumb screw, such as these http://www.ebay.com/itm/M4-x-8mm-Phillips-Pan-Head-Toolless-Thumb-Screws-Nickel-Plated-/201371629836?var=&hash=item2ee2af390c:m:ms0arJF55le-N2RyNnwnIjw
Havenāt really played since SSFIV, skipped over USFIV mostly. Started to get into reading about SFV release, looked at my Xbox 360 SFxT V.S. sticks with mods (TE Kitty and Remora LEDās) and thought that bringing them to PS4 was more than I wanted to do this time. The Brook Universal Fighter Board does look interesting though. Alas, would want to add more buttons (L3, R3, TP, etc) that donāt exist on that chassis without physical modding.
Looked at picking up the MadCatz TE2+ but since I am late to the game they are back-ordered until <fill_in_the_blank_with_some_long_time_defining_word>.
Started looking back at Tech Talk for various recommended sticks again, saw the VLX v.4 was made available last year and assumed I missed the boat with how fast the originals sold out years ago. Checked on Amazon and they were out of stock.
Next day started browsing Amazon again for other Hori, etc sticks. And whatās this? They are in stock now! Quickly ordered a couple and have been a blast to use so far, plus they are quite awesome to behold. Except for the buttons⦠planning to replace with some Sanwa white ones and the Option button⦠man that one is complete junk. Need to look up in the thread what that size was, Iām thinking it was 24mm??? And then a couple of matching white mesh balltops once I can find a place that has some in stock.
It was this thread with everyone showing their pictures of mods, etc that kept me glued here and excited to see if I could still get one. Thankfully it was a lot easier than I expected.
TL;DR - This thread got me excited to upgrade from my old sticks for the SFV release and I was able to find a couple.

Thanks, I couldnāt not remember what size those threads were.

Thank you! I have ordered some and hoping for the best
Yup, hopefully they work. They also sell a m3.5x8, but the threads looked too fine compared to the ones from a VLX.
anyone get their red hayabusa vlx in yet? im dying to see pics other than the stock ones thats been used for months. my order comes in tomorrow from arcade shock but i dont plan on opening it. i wonder how it will look with a red ball top and buttons
