The Hori PS4 VLX thread

So i just got this VLX from a friend & needs to be fixed up. What type of paint do you guys recommend? Also the door case for the wires broke off, one of the nub fell off, anyone have alternatives in fixing this?

My new and improved VLX:

[] Buttons are OBS-MX Blues from @armi0024 at Paradise Arcade Shop, save the OPTIONS. That remains the stock Hori 24mm.

Paint? Someone talking a while back about getting parts power coated.

As for the Door? Thin metal rod as a replacement for the nub, maybe going the whole length of the space, and glued or epoxied on the other side

Yea I just got a VLX I had to restore the top panel as well, I had it powder coated semigloss black. I’m doing a test fit for the 24mm buttons. Need to find someone with a 3D printer. I think it came off well.

what did you use on the top panel?

I took it to a powder coating shop, they painted it as well… i don’t remember the paint color code but it was semi gloss black

sorry. i thought you had the actual red control panel refinished, like polished or something.

is it possible to paint the red button panel? i would love the vlx diamond blue(just a thought, i’m done with this one). probably easier just to get artwork?

Wow turned out great, do you remember how much was the cost?

You can try 3dhubs for 3d printing since all you do is upload your stl file and then it will find a 3d print service for you that in your area. They have a bunch of materials and they give you an instant quote from a list of stores. I’m using them at the moment to print some button plungers I made for sanwa rg buttons.

I’m trying to do the same thing you are for the turbo panel too but everyday I’m still praying for ampupcustoms to come back so i can get it in metal and get a custom metal panel too

I took it to a shop that specializes in doing rims so its kind of pricey ($130) I had a lot of options for that kind of money, but i just had to restore this VLX this is what it looked like before.

Nice let me know what you end up doing I want to do something clean as well

Totally feeling these last few post. My VLX is currently off at the powder coater, along with my HSJ-12, and 2 rusty Agetec bottom panels. I’m in the process of converting my VLX into a Saturn and Dreamcast specific stick too. Gonna cut some alloy for 24 buttons too btw.

Ok im done with my restoration

Before

After

I’m still interested to see if anyone turned their black ones into brushed metal like the Diamond version and how it looked, and if they used a clear coat etc to avoid rust?

I can make brushed panels out of Stainless. That shouldn’t rust at all

Is there a way to know if the VLX is stainless?(without waiting for it to rust =) )

Its not. Mass produced anything will use regular steel because its cheaper, especially when the goal is to powercoat or paint it.

Ah

Awesome looks good did you powder coat it?

Nawww i just did the old switcherooo!
