The HoN/DoTA Thread

Well, it outlines each color with red/green anyway, so you can have individual colors AND team colors at the same time.

Push the apostrophe button (can be remapped) so you can see all the lifebars on screen at once! It’ll look very busy at first, but once you’re used to it you’ll love it and wonder how you played without it.

For Spirit Juice:
If things are messy in a big team fight and it’s hard to click an allied hero, try clicking their portrait on the left edge of the screen instead, it’ll auto-target them.

HoN rules by the way.

yo this game is stupid godlike

night hound is like SA b4 his dota nerf lol

whats the SRK clan? someone on irc told me to msg gaiactic for invite, but he didnt respond. bring a brother into the fold!

Invite Please…I would join SRK but I cant without an invite :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish I had a BETA key =/

serious? those pop ups in the lower right corner are not noticeable at all. plus when you get them often i barely manage to read them since most of the pop ups read “<your friend> has joined <game name>” or “<your friend> has left <game name>”.

either way, i play most nights so hit me up with an in game message cause that’s pretty easy to spot. i’ll be on tonight after 8:30 pm pacific time.

request number 6: Someone please pm me a beta key that works

Finest KO.

imo.

idk how i get them, but when i do i’ll send you one!

hey guys, suggest me some generic item builds for str/agi/int characters

right now on principle, i’ll get a jango or two, ingredients for my attribute bracer (go from anywhere from 2-3), boots (usually treads) and then <lost in the sauce>

i want generic builds with broadly applicable items so i can random some games and get a feel for all the characters and their abilities without cluttering my limited brain space with mad item builds

Worst mistake you can make in DOTA/HoN is getting your brain locked into item builds, like those people that are getting their dagon 40 minutes in or people getting radiance 50 minutes in. Being flexible >>> strictly adhering to builds.

But besides that on Agi heroes I’ll get a few of the agility things -> strength treads and depending on who I am Lothars/BFly/SnY.

Intelligence heroes you can pretty safely get a bloodstone with all of them and BoTs and you will more than likely be pretty good.

Str heroes differ greatly because a lot of their things differ greatly, i.e. ES plays much differently than Slardar.

Overall you should just learn a good core item to get with each hero because its hard to lump heroes into groups based on their main stat.

imo.

lol it’s all good dude my bad if I made you think I was mad at ya, I know you were new, I was more frustrated at the rest of our silly team AND annoyed at myself. I didn’t play as well as I usually do with Axe cuz it was my first time even playing Legionnaire. I know he’s like a direct port, but I just had to get used to him.

Let’s play again soon, I’ll pick someone I’m good with.

^_-;

Name some heroes you like so far and I’ll make you a few suggestions.

Keep in mind these would be relative guidelines and you should make your own judgement calls and adjust depending on who your opponents, group makeup, and lane partners are.

One of the MAIN things I tell all new Dota and HoN players is, no matter WHO you pick, learn what “denied” means. Learn how to last hit. Denied = Killing your own creeps before the enemy can. You usually can only attack your own creeps/towers when it gets under a certain percentage. If you successfully kill your own creep, a “denied!” box will pop up. When you deny creeps, enemy heroes get no gold for killing it, and it only gives about 1/3rd of the usual EXP to the enemy hero.

Denying a tower = When your tower’s health dips to 100 HP or less, you are allowed to attack and kill it, and a large “DENIED” animation will play. This means that enemy heroes, who usually get 200 gold each for every tower kill, only gets 100. Basically by denying a tower you are depriving the enemy team of 500 gold total. Always look to deny towers whenever possible.

Denying creeps and towers makes a HUGE difference in the game. If you’re good at last hitting, you are helping yourself and your team. If I’m soloing mid and I’m better at last hitting than my opponents are, I usually get to lvl 9 while they are still around lvl 6. It makes that big a difference. HUGE money swing too, especially in non-EM games.

DBR x Justice and defcon, what’s your in game name so we can invite to clan? or msg Quazi or PBalla or Gaiactic for clan invite

Gaiactic

Everyone always adds an “a” at the end of my name…

And yes, everyone join clan SRK. You get a cool “[SRK]” in front of your name!

thanks for the advice guys, but i’m not a moron lol. if there’s one thing i learned from fighting games is to improvise and adapt on the fly :stuck_out_tongue:

lothar’s post was pretty good though; it gives me a general framework & strat to work with as i progress through the character roster

my nick is “defcon” and i’ll be on after i get home from grinding this SF4 (probably an hour or two from now) haha.

I got three more beta invites. Send those pms (with your email of course)!

awesome… everyone that’s a beta tester should have gotten 3 invites… login to the website and click invite at the top to use your invites. don’t pm me yet cause i gotta a few friends to invite but i’ll post here if i have extra.

So I just got into beta a couple days ago, I’m definitely down for getting in some games with anyone here. When do you guys usually play? My handle is Koenig btw, I’m usually on in the afternoon or late night.

Didn’t know about the portrait thing. Thanks for the advice; it should come in handy next time I play a support type hero.

I wish the website had a list of all the heroes and in-detail description of their stat growth and skills (like the dota website has). I’m still not used to which hero in HoN is their respective DotA clone.
