Invites for the Heroes of Newerth (HoN) beta, which is a standalone game based on Dota. Graphics are much nicer and it’s not limited to the WC3 engine, but it’s still in beta so a lot of characters are missing.

Thunderbringer, their version of Zeus, is very powerful and a good noob character. (I mean, who doesn’t know how to play Zeus?) Even late game this fucker hurts.
The most OP char end game though is a toss up between Madman (Original HoN char) and Pestilence (Slardar). I kinda like Kraken’s ult (Kraken is basically Tidehunter with a different kinda ult) It’s like they combined X Marks the Spot with Magnus’ ult.
Gotta keep playin… I’m just gonna say I hate Scout.

I’ve been playing since the old icefrog days, back with fuzzy the furbolg and the ridiculously overpowered stealth assassin death wards.
I usually play apems or arems with some friends from my old WoW clan, they have hot and cold streaks with a few that are really starting to shine.
I used to play a Medusa build that focused on getting BoS+gg branches, and then rushing Mjolnir, BoT, and Eye of skadi in that order. Her aoe damage is absolutely ridiculous with this build. Sure her early game is awful, but late game split shot with a chain lightning proc on the weapon and an insane mana shield thanks to the stats from skadi are just too good to pass up.
Sylabear is my current fav. He’s not as complete as most heroes, but he’s just a lot of fun to play. Give him phase boots and mek and stack gloves of haste with a cranium and ptreads on the bear and you have a walking disable machine. The other team will curse you out and your team will love you lol.
Another favorite is Batrider. I don’t play him very well(and think hes a so so hero in general), but honestly I have never laughed so hard in this game as I have playing this hero. I go with the cookie cutter Phase Boots+Bloodstone as his build, and haven’t really tooled too much with it yet. Every one of his kills has the potential for huge lulz. Killing someone with a 25 damage sticky napalm? lulz, Sniping agi heroes to death with Firebreak? lulz, Putting a barrier of fire outside of a lane entrance to their base so they can’t get in? lulz. Don’t even get me started on his ult, too awesome. Lasso to Batrider’s fire, lasso to pudge rot, lasso to techies mines, lasso to Keeper blast, Lasso to towers, all produce hillarious results.

so i played hon. idk y but i just like dota better. they raised the speed which i didt like. they shoulda kept the char models and names.same gos for items. new char models are boring. just my opinion tho
True, denying/last hitting and early game farming play a much bigger role in an actual game than in em, but most of the people I play with only play ems so meh. Besides, not like I trust pubs to NOT waste my time in a dota these days. Atleast if they are awful and leave, they leave a 10 minute game as opposed to a longer one.
EDIT: Well if we want to get technical everything plays a much larger role in em, but that’s a given I guess.
Ehh, I totally get where you’re coming from. I was stuck in the same boat as you until I got into an entry level league with my friends. Pubs suck.
Aye, sure do :(. I’d like to start playing entry level league games myself, but the only one of my friends that is at that level is currently getting owned by work. The other 3-5 have good days and bad, so they aren’t very reliable(I guess that’s to be expected from WoW players though)
I’m pretty entry level depending on the hero I use, though I have to use Hamachi or Garena to play online due to the status of my wc3 copy
I used to play DotA/other WC3 custom stuff, but it’s been a few years now. How is this HoN thing working? Did someone from the Allstars team build his own engine or what? Is it going to be an actual purchasable game? Seems interesting.
I think it’s going to be free. I mean the mmo it;s based off of is free isn’t it?. But yeah one of the guys splintered off to create this is the story form what I gather
