good times hanging out with you guys
Sorry man. I have no idea how we missed each other all weekend. I’ll catch up to you soon, maybe at the next tourney.
just ownin :bgrin:
You guys may have had six wins but I had six moral victories.
Bigger post coming later, short version: I got whomped, the tournament was sort of meh but the casual was lots of fun.
Also James is well on his way at Guilty Gear.
i played well, except against the toilet, that dude is beastly and pwned me up good. Sorry to all who witnessed that abomination.
It’s cool man, the toilet was just ownin, you didn’t have a chance. :bgrin:
Awesome hanging out as always man
We’re playing at my house tonight, my cell is dead. Call my home number or Aaron if interested. Anyone who can bring another GG setup will be compensated by means of b/j.
hey, my cars in the shop … again (alignment from the last repair) but if someone can pick me up around 10pm? I get off work and want to get my ass handed to me in GG. And do some ass-handing in other games that I’m good at, or as they say in other parts of my apartment complex, the handing of the ass:wink:
Super BIG-GUN status update - it’s looking pretty fackin’ sweet, OH YEEEEAHH (kool-aid)
I’m back on aim (when at work) frog213aim
I like black girls and … oh wait, I mean… Nevermind
Stephen and Kara visited last night. Incase anyone was interested:confused:
ok, I’ll shut up now
ST is the truth, and good games to everyone last night. I wish I could have played Josh a bit more, but that’s what happens when he works foreva
UPPAh!
lol you force breaked your double post out of the thread
I’m wired and can’t sleep just yet so here’s my little MWC diary or whatever.
Short version: I lost a bunch ;-;
WEDNESDAY
I finally decide to go to MWC. Last minute!
THURSDAY
I took a really pointlessly complicated route to and from the tournament:
Aaron drives me to STL
From STL, I get a ride to Bloomington-Normal, IL
Scott comes over and James (Humbag) drives us to MWC
James drives us to Bloomington-Normal, IL
From there I ride the train to Jefferson City
My parents pick me up there and we drive back to Columbia.
Pretty weird. Anyway, I arrive at Bloomington around eight and head over to James’ house. He gives Scott a call and tells him to show up so we can leave that night, and we play GG until he arrives. Immediately it’s obvious that this guy is well on his way, any time he lands a hit the entire remainder of the combo is going to happen maybe 95-98% of the time. Only thing that seems to be giving him trouble is the 2K-2H link, and even that is working 70-80% of the time. It starts to storm, and apparently in Champaign where Scott is it’s even worse. We get a call after a while from Scott, he can’t see four feet in front of his face and misses his exit by four miles or something. What should be a forty-minute drive to Bloomington takes about an hour and a half, by the time he gets to James’ the weather is just as terrible in Bloomington-Normal and we elect to leave in the morning.
So this leads to the second set of casuals. Scott is playing mostly Robo-Ky and is pretty much whipping ass. The mixups are on par with his Ky, if not better because of how confusing the character is for me, and his zoning is really hard to pick apart. Color me impressed, and maybe a little envious.
FRIDAY
We get to Nickels pretty early, there are no Guilty Gear TVs set up. It’s a bust, but I figure maybe I’ll try some Slash. I see two guys playing on the cabinet (maybe off of service credits?) and one of them wins, and starts to walk away. I ask him if he’s getting up for lack of interest and lack of comp, and he says “lack of comp.” “Oh, well let’s play then,” I say. First two nickels go in… sunk. Straight to the coin box, no credits. From the guy’s appearance and the quality of his Chipp I realize it’s David Sirlin, and long boring story short we end up playing at the hotel much later that night (after the Alpha 2 tournament).
Sirlin has the best Chipp I’ve ever played against, which is not to say I’ve played them all but his immediately makes you stand up and take notice. Not that his Faust or Potemkin are bad, but this guy can do so much with a DP and plays super-safe and patient without sacrificing any opportunities to pressure the shit out of you. We skip the Accent-Core tournament to play the casual instead, and somehow I come out with a 9 to 1 win rate on him with Ky – but he has my Bridget beat at 6 to 4. Aaron downs some whiskey and drops out of the tournament, letting Steve take his place, and comes with Travis to meet up with us. Travis and Aaron give the guy his first exposures to AC Millia, Eddie and I-no and we part ways around something like one in the morning. James, Scott and I head back to Andy’s place.
SATURDAY
We wake up some time around eleven I think. Andy is already up, so we head downstairs and find James still peaced out on the couch. Scott wakes him up with sick Gunflame FRC strings but to no avail, James reversal supers. We end up playing a ton of Guilty Gear when Yosh shows up. The whompings I got from Aaron and Scott two days ago and the super-fast pace at which Sirlin was playing have me completely back in practice, lots of close games are happening now and we’re figuring out how some of the matchups have changed in Accent-Core.
After Yosh leaves, we try GG Mode. I usually think the extra modes in the console versions are a little boring, but this is really something else. Scott finds all kinds of kooky crazy shit with Robo-Ky and Dizzy, and I decide on Testament for this mode.
Testament can IAD what seems like a pixel or two above the ground in this mode, and since almost everything can be jump canceled that means ridiculous 6K-6H-IAD j.P x n pressure strings. But I couldn’t figure any out, I kept losing or I was too tempted to mash on IK/charge canceled hardslash ;-;
Aaron gives us a call and we head over to his room at the Red Roof where we play casual for… god knows how long. Mario, Simon and Jamarr show up eventually and I get to play Mario and Jamarr. Mario is whooping ass with a bunch of characters I haven’t seen him play before and Jamarr is, like usual, a monster. For some stupid reason I end up showing him a bunch of broken Testament tactics and the basic pattern behind Jam’s corner 6H loop. You guys can thank me for that later, with knives.
SUNDAY
I wake up in time for the ST tournament, but my stomach is doing acrobatics and my ankle is so bad I don’t want to walk the couple of minutes to Nickels. Paul calls me and lets me know I can still make the tournament (an hour or so late!) if I show up, so I slide my carcass over there. We’re shooting the shit before it starts and I say something like “I want some sort of bad ass top player first round, I don’t think I’m destined for greatness this time so I want to get it while the getting’s good.”
Well.
My first round opponent is Jason Cole. He picks Boxer, I pick the only character I know how to play and hope to god I can at least not get annihilated. And surprisingly… I don’t. He wins both the games, but most of the rounds actually go down to pixels at the end and either one or both of them went all three rounds. Close, but no cigar.
If that left me feeling like I was maybe not in for a mollywhopping at this tournament, my next match set me straight. I was up against Flash G, who played a sick ass Ryu. The match basically looked like this:
hadouken hadouken kikouken hadouken hadouken kikouken hadouken hadouken kikouken
If I ever jumped, I got nailed, and if I got close enough to swat his hands with MK, he did crouching strong. This really threw me for a loop because I was expecting his crouching strong to lose… but both moves just whiffed, with Ryu seemingly recovering earlier than me (maybe it was just my timing). Not in the presence of mind to deal with this, I think I just whiffed a couple more MKs and got pushed back out.
It got ugly from here on out. I hyperfocused on dealing with low strong (somehow forgetting to try the most obvious button with Chun – crouching forward) and was too eager to get right up in his face, paying no attention to my meter or his. But what was really frustrating was every time I thought he was going to low strong, and stuck out some move in an attempt to find out what beats it fast… he did hadouken instead and knocked me down. It was like the dude was inside my mind. He had me handled in no time flat and I was out of ST.
Time for Accent-Core casual then. My Ky got smoked, first by SH_‘s Eddie and then by Kevinforce’s Baiken. Any time I actually landed a hit, which was not that often, I let out a maniacal supervillain laugh. If I got hit, and that happened quite a bit, I cried. I got to see a lot of Dennis’ Ky which gave me a lot of new ideas.
In between some of the matches I watched Ari, and he seemed to be using Bridget? Never saw his Bridget before, but it looked like pretty damn good. Wild.
The team tournament was next. Our first match was against Austin, Austin and Pete (REMEMBERED HIS NAME THIS TIME) from Omaha. Yosh took out one of the Austins and the Pete, but the Bridget-playing Austin (BRIDGET!) managed to squeak by. Scott took over here. Next was team Klaige, Cue and Alex G. Yikes. Yosh made a valiant effort for naught, but Scott was on fire, getting all the way to Alex G and cutting it pretty close against him. He was doing everything right, awesome defense and really good mixups… but Alex is just a great player, no gimmicks or nothing just laser-precise distancing and awesome whiff punishment reaction times. Which means it should go without saying that when I ran into Alex, I got handled. He just threw me something like eight times, like that Lilith/Q-Bee match vid. Good shit self, we’re in losers.
And who do we run into there but David Sirlin. Right about now I’m cursing the GG team format because I know how hard Chipp is going to be to deal with if I have to stick with Bridget… which I do. Should have picked Anji I guess. Yosh can’t quite seal the deal against Josh the FunkDOC, but Scott takes care of them and loses a close match to Sirlin. I get up there and work my magic and we’re out of the team tourney and on the road back to Bloomington.
Good stuff about the tourney:
Got to meet lots of cool people: David, tsukihimeblood, Pete (I made sure to forget his name and introduce myself to him three times), Lawrence, some others I don’t remember.
Dennis’ Ky put on a hell of a show in the team tournament. I’ve always thought this guy was an awesome player and it was great to watch him play so well with the entire crowd behind him.
Scott was also fucking people up both in the tournament and in casuals all weekend.
Some of the newer players show a lot of promise, like James and Andy.
James and Andy were both great hosts. Andy’s dogs were awesome.
Disappointments:
Didn’t get to see much of some people – only hung out with Yosh for a grand total of like an hour.
Didn’t play well. That’s nothing new!
Turnout was a little disappointing; no Final Showdown and no Kentucky were both pretty big blows IMO.
turn out was definately a disspointment numbers wise, but not talent wise hehe
Definitely agreed there.
i did beat josh. also, whatever happened to the wonderful conversation we had in front of scott?
me: whenever andrew calls a girl “ugly” it actually means that she’s of legal age and not completely flat chested… or not a boy.
andrew: shut uuup.
lol Good shit:tup:
Could you kindly step back twenty feet ladies, you’re on my dick. Thanks.
That would explain why you have trouble walking:smile:
‘hopes to god Andrew doesn’t punch him the next time he comes over’
Hour and a half til judgment day, Chris.
I’m finally starting to understand AC Bridget, I still think he sucks so I don’t really have any reservations about giving away my leeto burrito strats… so I’m almost thinking I have enough material for a combo video. I guess I should replace my video splitter.
i picked a new char in gg. so much for my 2 year tie with dizzy.
Paul what r u doing tomorrow? when do u work? just give me a call.
