The Hardest and Easiest Characters To Use In SSf4AE?

I lol’ed. Noob giefs get destroyed.

seth? lol

Hardest characters - Gen, Akuma,Viper, HAKAN and Sim

Hardest: Zangief, T-Hawk
Easiest: Hakan

You just lost creditibility with that statement lol

Viper is hard execution wise but gameplay wise It’s more about mix ups and mindgames, she’s got tons of tools and massive damage output and good comeback potential, not particularly hard to win with all that.

Easiest character? Maybe Ken or Honda, although Honda has trouble with projectiles…probably Ken.

There’s more to Viper than just execution. You need a lot of matchup specific knowledge eg. which anti-air to use when (she has certain “blind spots”), how to escape certain OSs and unblocakables (she’s is one of the easiest characters to land unblockables and ambiguous x-ups) etc, which characters can dodge BKs at what ranges, U1 juggles heights etc. Lots of characters have to know things like this but with characters like Viper it’s trickier because mistakes can cost you up to 40% health. Her offensive game isn’t that hard to learn, but I’d say she’s one of the characters that require above-average defensive skills and matchup knowledge.

If you talk about easy and hard to use characters, you have to specify what your baseline is. If you’ve played fighting games before, the pool of easy characters might change. KOF players might be used to the inputs, but may struggle with the defensive aspect of the game. Absolute noobs might have problems with doing any type of special motion. There’s no definitive right or wrong answer.

Okay I believe everyone probably has their own opinion of what a mid level player is so I’ll use the PP system as a bases for mine. Let’s say 1700-2500 PP would make you a mid level player.

Easy to play at mid level Ryu, E. Ryu, Blanka, Balrog, Cody, Ken, Chun, ELF, Honda, Bison, Yun, Ibuki, Fei long, Adon

Medium level: Guy, Rose, Cody, Dudley, Zangief, Cammy, Makoto, Vega, Goken, Akuma, T.Hawk, Dee Jay, Guile, Yang, Oni, Sagat, Hakan, Viper(She maybe hard execution wise, but her cross up burn kicks are easy enough to do at mid level, and that’s enough to get you buy against’ other mid level players.)

Hardest level: Gen, Sakura, Seth, Dhalsim, Juri, Rufus

Execution wise I’d list them like this

Easiest: Ryu, E. Ryu, Ken, Cody, T.Hawk, Zangief, Sagat, Rose, Guile, Hakan, Dhalsim, Honda, Yun, Bison, Goken, Chun, Hakan, Fei long, Blanka, Adon

Mildly difficult: Dee Jay, Cammy, Vega, Yang, Ibuki, Makoto, Juri, Seth, ELF, Balrog, Dudley, Akuma, Oni, Abel, Rufus

Hardest: Viper, Sakura, Gen

Just my opinion.

How is Seth harder execution wise than Ryu? Please explain, I don’t even think he has 1 frame links, maybe c.lp into c.mk but it isn’t needed. Seth deals damage pretty easily, s.mp - s.hp - hp legs - juggle combo (I don’t know how the hell it is called) is almost 400dmg without a jump in, and it’s easy.

That’s cool, that’s one combo that he has and it’s corner only. Really good Seths can do all those fadc focus crumple combos that take a lot more execution then anything Ryu has. Whatever, it’s not like I put him among the highest execution, just in the middle.

No footsies, dies in an instant, has To be perfect on spacing to avoid reversals.

I feel makoto is much harder to use than Seth.

Shit, I’d go as far as saying that Seth is among the easiest characters to use (talking about mid level online play) after his health/stun buff.

Super easy links, chainable shorts, a FADCable, OSable dragon punch that will beat anything, dive kick+cmd grab, a teleport that you will often get away with when you’re playing mid level opponents.

Bums only had to realize Seth’s potential, that’s why he looked hard to play. After seeing Poongko beasting everyone is just copying him and everyone and their mothers started playing Seth and people are already quite good with him after 1 or 2 months (provided you already know how to play of course)

Obviously boxer, honda, vega, blanka, hell, all charge characters, are probably easier to win with online against low/mid level competition

EDIT Fei is mad easy to destroy scrubs with. Whenever i’m up against opponents that I know I wouldn’t have fun with if I used Akuma or Yun, I just pick Fei (never spent more than 5 mins in training mode with him), walk them to the corner and begin the rape. Also easiest to use DP in the whole game. Being able to DP from blocking position is SOOOOO much easier, especially online with that fucking delay

I kind of agree with the statement about Seth being easy to play. I’ve been playing Seth for over a year, but got destroyed a lot. Seeing Hiropon and Online Tony do well was inspirational but it wasn’t until Poongko started blowing everybody up, that myself and others I guess started getting better. I’m one of those guys, I simply copied a bunch of his tactics and now my Seth is so much better then it was pre-Shadowloo Showdown.

And correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Online Tony started dominating WNF only after Poongko started blowing people up at SS and EVO 2K11? To me it seems like his play style has changed and it seems influenced by Poongko.

Superlollo already pointed out all the stuff I wanted to. But besides that, his execution is mad easy. Chainable light attacks, 2 frame links into cr. MP and st. HP from cr. LP, lightning legs and SRK put you in position to continue the pressure and make your opponent crack and do something desperate.

Yes the low health is definitely a issue, but I think having all those tools and the easy links outweigh it in the grand scheme of things if you want to rank how easy he is to use compared to the rest of the cast.

The hardest character to play in AE is sagat imo. You need perfect zoning, awareness, reaction, meter management and even if you have advantage you need to work hard for every win except maybe against zangief.

Ryu is far from easy in AE, he is the definition of pure SF with a lot of negative matchups that require perfect play at high level while having good tools. Anyone who says viper or seth are hard to play misunderstands what is the difference between execution/reads and mindgame. For me, it´s all about footsies and spacing so those characters will never be skillful on my book.

I don´t play sagat btw, but being objective I just love the character at high level. I also consider zangief one of the most hardest characters to win with at high level specially on tournament play.

I somewhat agree (well, sagat is definitely hard but not hardest in the game, definitely miles harder than Seth and maybe Viper), BUT the OP asked for “mid level online play” so you’re kinda off topic.

Ups, I admit didn´t read the first post and assumed it was at top level my bad. At mid level I´ll say the easiest are charge characters the hardest I don´t really know.

Viper and Gen are difficult to learn.

Hardest to win with? El Fuerte.

At low level you can just take a person to splash mountain and be done with it. At mid-level or above people start catching on to habits, chances to land RSF start to become very scarce and his low damage output and plethora of unsafe things becomes apparent quickly. You’re working hard for your openings and Nickle and Diming for damage and you guess wrong once and now you’re on your back, you lost the life lead, the momentum, and are now waking up to a mixup.

His problem is most of what he does is high risk low reward as opposed to say, Viper. His glitches don’t help either.

Medium:
Abel. Once you get it through your head to be patient with him you’ll see success.

Ryu. He’s nothing fancy. He has access to everything in the game at a decent amount. He can reveal you as solid or predictable.

Easiest:
Ken. Bitches is free to them DPs. FREEEEEEEEEE. close roundhouse xx ex tatsu to free mixup.

Bison: safe pressure and feet. Easiest way to frustrate players.

I’m commander Shepard and this is the dumbest thread on the citadel.

I’m not sure I would call Cody easy to learn. He is very depenent on tight links and knowledge of frame traps and footsies, plus all he can is block which most new players can’t seem to grasp.

bison, fei long and balrog are top tiers when it comes to durr
