My AE pool was sweet. We had players willing to run the gauntlet so one dude would just sit down and play everyone which would knock-off a lot of matches in a short amount of time. I was being a fuckin’ WAH WAH about the TV we had so everyone else ran their matches until I could find a TV that wasn’t being used and then pull aside the people that I needed to play. And then the great SAIKYO JOE saved the day by bringing a set-up so I used that for my matches (Vince also used it for his pool since he needed to run some matches for people that wanted to play on PS3). Despite the TV hold-up we finished our pool before others and once we were done with the TV in our pool I went around and told the other pools and TOs that we had an open TV for people to either run their matches or do casuals afterwards. Worked magnificently.
But what really pissed me off about this tourney was that you all couldn’t do anything about getting that hot tub back in working condition. That shit is inexcusable. I really wanted to just sit in there and smoke a cigar since I didn’t even have to play in Marvel pools because I’m so great and I felt that it was important for me to look the part. Fuck you guys and learn how to run a tournament.
Pools are really great when you have the time/ resources/ moderate entries to do it.
Just put the pool on a big fucking paper board and the players figure it out themselves.
The only annoyances are: (in order)
- Tiebreakers (this causes mucho salt)
- Meaningless matches (lessened by awarding seeds, giving losers bracket/ byes, or having more people qualify)
- Collusion
The worst time I had with pools was in London when I played in a 5 man pool that only qualified the winner. So… it’s basically single elim but takes 3 times as long.
Speaking of this, the MK pool had a 3 way tie for first. All were 6-1. A beat B but lost to C. B beat C but lost to A. C beat A but lost to B. Nice little circle there don’t ya think.
Last round robin I ran I kept track of match points to prevent that from happening and had everyone agree that in the event of a tie further still that a long tiebreaker set would be played out in that event. Idk how much of a possibility that is for you guys, but I figured I’d give you the suggestion since it worked for me.
Also, ryry should not be winning 3S. That is all.
