You know, from a storyline perspective, what does being able to shoot out flickers add?
I mean, Ippo just sortaâŚcruises through them for the most part. It doesnât really do anything besides add more chapters?
We saw the Smash get a clean hit in.
We saw the FREEDOM movements get in lots of hits and stuff.
Weâre seeing his phase through punches at ropes (ropeadope is it?) mean that Ippoâs âbestâ gameplan of getting a person to a corner and committing murder there being neutralised.
But the flickerâs just sort ofâŚthere. You know? Ippoâs not even fazed by it, just surprised for like a few panels if I remember correctly.
i belief it was there to show the progression that ippo is beyond this techniques and they canât give him much trouble anymore. before woli used freedom he brushed off everything woli threw at him. now itâs just to find out the puzzle that is woli and how to beat him.
I think all Ippo can do is just wait for Woli to fuck up and take advantage. I can see Woli slipping after trying to do his rope trick bullshit. Then that proceeds to Ippo fucking his shit up.
Flickers are there to basically emphasize how âgoodâ Woli is supposed to be. They already mentioned that his Flicker isnât anywhere near the level of Mashibaâs or even Taekiâs. You have to remember, flicker jabs are still just jabs, they are supposed to be used to setup stuff and for Woli, theyâre there to force Ippo to raise his gloves to protect his face while raising his elbows for the Smash and hooks.
Woli isnât going to slip and get hit, Ippoâs going to get an eureka moment and thereâs going to be some fake desperation struggle before Ippo wins.
Goddamn what a frustrating fight, made infinitely worse because I gotta follow this fight week after week rather than get through it in one go like when I had a huge back log of volumes. I can only imagine how retarded the Ippo/Date fight was if you followed it week by week.

I was debating reading this chapter, but Iâm sick of this fight. Maybe Iâll read Ippo once this is all over.
I remember a while back in training Ippo threw some sort of punch that made a ridiculous sound, and they said that it was the perfect punch or something. I feel like Ippoâs blocked desperation punch there was reminiscent of that, maybe Ippo will just start throwing them out.
I find it more reasonable to have Miyata getting a beating from Randy Boy jr. than having Woli doing roll cancels against Ippo. Randy Boy seemed like he had a plan and was working his way to it, while Woli is FREEEEEEEEEDDDDOOOOOOMMMMM.
Though I donât want Ippo throwing a EOTL punch straight from Veritas like Miyata did.
