And this is one of the reasons why I like HnI so much–anything goes, basically. The good guys don’t always win, and the “bad guys” are likable enough to want them to win.
qft. best part of hni. i don’t remember a major fight where i wasn’t rooting for the bad guy as well. i was surprised that i kinda wanted mashiba to win against ippo :shy:
I’d say the only part I didn’t like about the fight was that Ricardo essentially escaped unscathed. I don’t think there’s been a fight like that yet in the anime (where the “enemy” won clean out).
So… this HnI Cell is from Mexico…
ep8
Spoiler
I’ld think disarming date was better story than to have him come into ep 8 tagging Ricardo. While a solid two hit heartbreak=> cancel =>cross would make for a face-saving kd combo, it would lead to the same ending. Now the gap between Ricardo and Date is as far (or farther) as Ippo was from Date (pre title)…
…it’s time for some Hyperbolic Time Chamber training.
Are we really going to continue to use spoiler tags for the anime when you guys are freely talking about the manga that is years ahead storywise?
Yeah but the only time RBJ gets off balance is when Miyata throws an upper… and they were always emphasizing on how RBJ’s left hook came after the upper.
By using his father’s left feint right cross counter, I don’t know if Miyata took advantage of the Sendo training, or throwing his opponent off balance.
I think Miyata could have just done the left feint right cross counter 2 rounds ago and avoid all this desperate flailing bs.
well… :wonder: I’m just happy I got the spoiler tags to work

don’tcha like clicking them? :lovin:
I’m spoil proof but yeah, :bluu: my posts are generally pre-spoiled anyway.
random boxer style: as plausible improvement on Mashiba’s pure Flicker
Flicker/Swallow with the right
+long range dominant
+good mid range mixups
Counter/Screw with the left
+close range dominant
+good mid range mixups
No reason for Mashiba to do right handed flickers. Even Sanada never did that with his swallows. Plus Mashiba has a different variant on the swallow already where he just retracts his long ranged flickers for as a downward hook.
Mashiba is a right handed boxer and as much as anyone wants him to be a pure flicker fighter, it’s not really fair to pretend he can be like Takamura. Takamura was throwing out full body lefts, flickers aren’t finishing punches and the best they can do is make people give up because they don’t know what to do against them. In the HnI world, they’re considered cutting punches, so like Miyata’s normal punches will never KO anybody until he throws out a counter, Mashiba won’t ever have or develop a flicker finisher against anybody that’s going to stay in the manga/anime for more than one fight.
:looney: I think I mixed up the hands then…
I was thinking the flicker hand (so his left) would be primary in long range, but if they get into mid range he could improve his swallow type options (ala Sanada) and have a corkscrew styled finish (with his right; ala Date’s 2nd) but if they get too close a counter is his last resort.
I also think I mixed the arms considering if the fickers were uncommonly strong and his inside counters were surprisingly fast it could be because of fighting south paw (unlike Mashiba) despite being right handed. edit- I probably wasn’t clear at all. :bluu: my bad.
would make for an odd one to box against.
found an incredible nice coloring. it’s from the same guy who does the ippo mugen game.

Someone could look at this and mistake it for a pic from the anime. Good stuff.
Too jumbled of a character. Mashiba was never really a counter fighter, just like how some fighters don’t have everything and giving him everything without taking anything away would obviously make him stronger. Mashiba isn’t really a defensive fighter even though his Flickers don’t let people come in on him, he just uses Flickers to frustrate the opponent and when your opponent is riled up it makes it easier to read them. He has no reason for moves like a corkscrew because it doesn’t fit with his body type (tall fighter that attacks mostly downwards with long arms). I think he has the perfect tools to win a fight right now as there isn’t really any style he’s weak against other than some fighter like Takamura in his weight class except for maybe really fast fighters that aren’t counter punchers like Miyata.
Probably a well rounded fighter with good strength and speed would be enough to beat Mashiba. No tricks really, just needs the tools to get in and stick so Flickers aren’t a problem and then good enough to work Mashiba close up. Mashiba’s weakness is close in, but most fighters get obliterated before they could even get in. We don’t count Kimura’s fight because Kimura and Aoki will never achieve anything in HnI, they only get lime lit once in awhile because they’re fighting other popular fighters and Morikawa isn’t going to make anyone just destroy those 2 unless they’re world champions.
If only, that is some good coloring.
Nice. Is that a crown tattoo on Taka’s back or was it an inspirational Kamogawa handslap print?
i don’t wanna spoil you in case you haven’t read the manga yet.
hawk vs takamura
Spoiler
yes, it’s kamogawa’s spirit slap
we only spoiler tag the anime because of srk rules. theirs a requirement to spoiler tag stuff that was released within a week. people cried about us spoilering shit and the anime is the only thing the mods can really enforce on us.
I thought it was 24 hours after the show aired.
For those that care, animebreaker is back up and they have episodes 7 and 8 in HD if you haven’t seen em already.
anyone care to clear up how many chapters (er… books) the manga is ahead of the anime? I’ve been fighting the urge to to read them and since there so far ahead spoiler specifics don’t really phase me.
However when I jumped on Naruto manga, I stopped watching it’s anime for fear of the filler arcs. I really enjoy the HnI anime though… so I may still catch it. Has HnI anime had any fillers?
all animes have fillers. but hni doesnt have alot. or if they do have one it actually makes the story flow.
