I hope Morikawa sets up this whole “no lucky punches” idea and then Randy Boy Jr. destroys Miyata. Then Miyata acts all confused and RBJ says “There are no lucky punches, that’s why I destroyed you.” Basically a bait and switch to make the reader realize that Miyata is awful.

Of course, I would also enjoy a scenario where Miyata gets in a punch like Randy Boy Sr. did against Miyata Sr. and KOs RBJ and then RBJ’s kid has to fight Miyata’s kid in 18 years. The never ending rivalry.

Miyata is so obviously setting up for a cross counter, but to try and avoid that they make Miyata look like he’s desperately doing nothing but flailing his arms upwards. The only issue is that it’s a really poor setup and with Miyata punching straight up like that and RBJ supposedly a strong fighter, it’s kind of surprise he doesn’t know how to just uppercut Miyata into oblivion. It’s going to be anti-climatic because Miyata isn’t searching for it right now, he’s going to accidently counter and either win or lose which at this point doesn’t really matter because they’ve built up Ippo to have something he’s working on, but can’t get there yet so he’s not ready to fight yet… well seriously, look at Miyata’s speed, it’s too overwhelming for Ippo.

The fastest fighter for Ippo was Saeki and he won by some whack timing luck and as much as I don’t really like Miyata right now, the characters just don’t seem suited to fight yet. Ippo really doesn’t have the tools necessary for the fight and I really don’t want to see them fight where it’s all about Ippo getting that one lucky shot and then owning Miyata or Miyata going speed demon and owning Ippo because he just doesn’t have anything to stop Miyata. Every Ippo has would be dodged by Miyata because Miyata is a damn defensive outboxer that preys on boxers with straight lines and the one tool Ippo has that isn’t a straight line the nerfed Dempsy Roll that turns him into a rotating cannon that doesn’t move forward like the original Dempsy Roll. Miyata would just run away, he has no reason to dodge that shit or try to hit him like an idiot.

Bah, stupid HnI, how I love you and hate you at the same time. Can’t wait for the next chapter though XD.

not really accidently. as you can see in this panel miyata was smirking. miyata has found out that there’s no switching as randy leans back. that’s why he only gets hit with lefts. if he knows where a punch is coming from he can counter it. i predict a JOLT! to counter the left which rbj will somehow try to re-counter with switch hitting only to get hit with an unexpected left JOLT UPPER!. kinda criss cross counter like.

The whole issue is that Morikawa is trying to downplay Miyata’s comeback counter that it’s stupid. It’s so blantantly obvious, but he disqualifies the whole smirk from the last chapter to make Miyata look desperate instead of calculated.
