Godammit Morikawa! All these chapters, all this buildup only to show this! Even if Ippo does win, he cannot realistically continue his boxing career after this, and he surely can’t face…
And if by some retarded miracle that Morikawa is bluffing again, this would be the 4th time he’s done a bait and switch regarding Ippo’s health, which is horrible writing. He’s written himself into a corner. A lose-lose situation.
It was a joke. I mentioned the lose-lose in terms of storytelling for a reason. He’s worn out his “is he or isn’t he?” device to the point where he has to be conclusive. He may have dragged out certain plots in the past but this is descending into something much worse depending on what he chooses to do next.
Miguel Zale saw this coming hundreds of chapters ago. I wonder if Ippo can still win this, even though at this point it won’t be a convincing one. Either way, his career is finished. All that’s left now is how this will all end. Wonder how Kumi and Ippo’s mom will react.
Seems to me Martinez is going to retire undefeated at this point. And you can forget about the Miyata-Ippo match if anyone was still hoping for it to happen.
Maybe Ippo is going to pull a Date/Martinez. He’ll retire, marry Kumi. Then 8 years later he’ll jump back into boxing, win the japanese title then make another world title push and win the championship.
