The Hajime no Ippo (HnI) thread - Gazelle Punch Her in the Gut!

Seriously, this is near Woli-Level bullshit.

I wouldn’t go that far…

Its worst, Ippo was outclassed but elephant power and tekken won the day. Takamura was literally KO,ed on his feet, busted up but by the miraculous and magical powers of spinning on your big toe you can come back from beyond the brink and score a perfect counter KO. But spinning on your toe? Wut?

This is going up there with the fight vs the bear.

The fight vs the bear was gdlk.

The end of this fight was pretty meh doe.

Felt like he wrote himself into a wall and didn’t know how else to end it.

He channeled his inner tazmanian super macho man. Nothing wrong with that.

But for the entirety of the match Ippo’s “elephant power” was portrayed as baby taps up until the 6th punch when it somehow became effective. At least with this match they actually sold most of the fight and it wasn’t an out of the blue comeback. Not saying this isn’t a plot armor win, but woli will forever be the most bullshit fight I’ve ever read outside of bleach.

Pretty sure everyone called it…

Comparable to Miyata v Randy Boy Jr? I mean Takamura was getting his ass kicked. Nigga was dead, even Coach K knew it. Its like Im cool with him winning I guess, just wished it wasn’t such a goofy as finish. But Bison was for real a beast (HnI equivalent to Clubber Lang maybe?) and gave Takamura that work, but they have to still make it so it seems like its impossible for Takamura to lose I guess.

I was just about to say this. Looking at it again I’m 80% certain that Morikawa was going to make Takamura’s eye the issue then flaked realizing he was potentially writing himself in a corner.

Bison seemed even better than Eagle as far as tenacity and boxing IQ. Not only was he ruthless but he was smart enough to not get reckless even when he was winning. 'Tis a shame shonen plot is too strong.

lol japanese nationality is too strong in this manga. like i have to believe even in japan…old buisness men are reading this like…ok…ok…even i gotta call bullshit.

Great fight. One of the most intense. Ended on bullshit though. I can’t get over that.

Fight ended improbably with at least a mention of a basic boxing thing, as improbable as him cracking his own toenail is.

Miyata threw a fucking lightning bolt out of his hand and he’s not nearly the man that Takamura is.

Let’s not get too worked up here, of course it’s plot armor. Takamura’s plot armor is just manly as fuck, so yeah we’re gonna react differently.

So, now that that’s finished…what does Ippo learn from this?

From the Mashiba fight, the lesson is that you have to be mentally tough in order to get back into your way of boxing. You can’t let outside things interfere with your boxing, and you have to be able to get back into the right mindset if you’re not there.

From the Sendo fight, the lesson is that you have to be physically tough. You have to be able to take the strongest punches that your opponent can throw, then come back with a bloody smile and savagely return the favor.

And from the Takamura fight, the lesson is that you have to box like your life is on the line. You can’t give up, no matter how much it may seem like you’re outmatched; and that’s because you were taught by Kamogawa, which means that you can do anything.

So I think when Takamura talks about a level of boxing where “only monsters can go,” what he means is that you have to go beyond what normal people can bear. You have to be tougher, physically and mentally and emotionally, than anyone could conceivably achieve. You have to literally become more than a man, a monster, in order to be World Champion.

Mashiba gave the only note worth lesson, Sendo is basically what Ippo would be like if he was mentally like Takamura, probably just a tad less physically gifted.

Lets be real, Ippo is already a monster, supreme strength, endurance and determination. He is noted by Miyata as being one of the fastest guys alive. He scores a zero in the confidence game. He killed a nigga instantly when he bet with Takamura they would both win but when hes got nerves he takes Rocky level beat downs.

Last 3 fights were just show pieces to keep the other boxers in the spot light and level them up without doing anything, Ippo needs Volg to come back and do some Apollo eye of the tiger shit with him. Or Kumi to stop fucking around and give him an ultimatum about unleashing the inner elephant or just quit. Am gonna literally be fucking 50 years old before I see Ippo smirk while walking to a fight damnit.

Everyone knows Ippo is a beast who can easily contend on the world stage, but the dude takes a decade to start up. He isn’t like Sendo, or Takamura who just starts up at 100% and fucks shit up. He starts at 0% and after the course of 7 rounds does he get to 100%

Everyone saw how the dude is like against Kojima, and that was a sloppy fight. If Ippo kept that attitude along with his grade A boxing, then he could easily fuck up just about any Boxer.

New chapter up http://readms.com/r/hajime_no_ippo/1120/3057/1

Short chapter due to health problems. Someone in the comments said this chapter had more story progression than Bleach.

Definitely more satisfying than 99% of Bleach chapters.

What’s impressive is that even when ill the quality of his artwork doesn’t decline. Get well soon Morikawa. Don’t push it, cuz we got 3,000 chapters left.

dudes in his 60s by now right? hes only gotten ridiculously better in his art as he’s aged. so much detail and cleanliness.
