The Hajime no Ippo (HnI) thread - Gazelle Punch Her in the Gut!

That’d make sense, it’d set up Sendo to fight Ricardo before Ippo does, where he gets demolished and reminds everyone what a god Ricardo actually is. Givin Ippo dem Cena odds to overcome.

Chapter 1088: http://readms.com/r/hajime_no_ippo/1088/2704/1

Spoiler

Been sparing with Ricardo? Fuckin hype and Sendo is ready to get in that ass.

Shiiiit here we go

I’m guessing Sendo loses here and this guy is Ippo’s next challenger.

Sendo should lose here, but I could see him pulling off something and winning.

I hope Sendo doesn’t lose. It would be nice to see him actually outsmart a high level opponent in the ring.

Last panel says he’s about to pull out some REAL shit and win this anyway. He prob shouldn’t, but world stage monsters etc

Niggas in here are actually betting AGAINST the Naniwa Tiger? Shit, Sendo and Vorg are the two realest niggas in the whole damn manga… Sendo ain’t losing to runaway Dhalsim time-out BS.

I don’t think anyone wants Sendo to lose. I think the whole thing where its 8 rounds and Sendo lookin like garbage, and then he decides to get his shit together. I wish they would make it so the boxers actually see the consequences of certain strategies. Typically in a boxing match if you are getting handled like Sendo is right now then you most likely aren’t making a comeback, unless you land that miracle KO. Its like they try to down play the world rankers like they are scrubs, when there is a whole plethora of aspects that they are bringing to the fight.

My thoughts exactly. Its like when it comes to a lot of the Japanese boxers they really only know how to in fight or out box and that is about it. Takamura is an exception, but I find it interesting how it seems so surprising to have advanced tactics. I mean at this level there should be more than just guts and moving forward.

To be fair writing an entire series round by round on adjustments of an actual boxing match who be asininely tedious. I could write a book on the matches I’ve had and I never turned pro.

Did everyone forget about what happened in chapter 242? Last time someone gave Sendo a hard time.

No, the last time he had a hard time he got up, stood up and stared at THE MAN WHO BEAT HIM.

but i guess shitgeta counts

Does Nargo possess more ring intelligence and technical skill? Of course. A better trainer? Most definitely.

But this isn’t the lesson that Morikawa is trying to pass on to the reader. Since the inception of the manga Ippo has been the perfect example of what you can achieve with countless hours of hard work and conditioning… and then he lost against a world ranker. Twice defeated by those who desperately sought to face the Super Champion.

Why? Because he didn’t display this:

An unwavering confidence, and above all, bloodlust.

No weak-hearted soliloquies about potentially disappointing senpai, or pouting about how strong a world ranker is, or sweating the fact that his opponent has sparred with El Dios himself. The thought of another hurdle excites him, and he’ll do whatever it takes…

I think my biggest issue is that some of them (Sendo and Ippo) are fighting at the world stage with the mentality of the Japanese stage. I am surprised Sendo hasn’t even attempted to cut the ring off and has stuck with the same tactic well into the 8th round.

Oh well I really just want to see more Vorg though.

@“white shadow” - I dig what you are saying, but just because this hurdle excites him doesn’t mean he should all of a sudden win. The type of fighter he is would actually cause him to shorten his boxing career due to all the hits he would take. Just like when Ippo was getting all chopped and screwed with drawing a straight line. I understand the whole thing about just wanting to fight, but not having a better strategy this late in the boxing career seems careless.

Funny thing is that I like Sendo a lot, but I never liked how one dimensional his style was.

Right, he used to demonstrate the speed in his dash that he got from the “ankle weights”. But from the looks of it he hasn’t even tried.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree it’s a shoddy way to box. I’m just trying to give you the setup the author is doing. He’s sending message that goes beyond what one should expect.

Why did it take 8 rounds for Sendo to “get serious”? It makes no sense, but what we do know is that Sendo is very stubborn and it took someone who “no scare” to actually amp him up. He’s been used to the same strat since for ages and it’s been working over and over. However, at the upper echelon of the world stage intimidation means nothing if you can’t connect, so now he knows he has to try to fight outside his comfort zone.

Why 8 rounds though? I dunno… Maybe he’s a masochist.

Sendo gonna chase him down with the dempsey roll lol.

He obviously was having this done to him by other Mexicans, it’s stated as much that they all tried this until they finally broke down and made a mistake and got Shigeta’d. So it makes sense that someone as bullheaded as Sendo wouldn’t sort out what’s happening in this fight so quickly. Sendo’s already high opinion of himself was also bolstered by beating a bunch of Mexicans, who have been held up in the manga as these superior boxers at the world stage, when in fact they got their share of scrubs too.

In any case he’s ready to go now.
