The Hajime no Ippo (HnI) thread - Gazelle Punch Her in the Gut!

Ive always questioned the power gap between Ippo and Sendo though, I mean Ippo has that plot armor but Sendo is literally the Takamura of that weight class. Ippos only saving grace these days is that hes too dumb to quit and fans have a right to be on a downer because its the same story plot recycled. Light a fire under his ass already and give us a Ippo we can cheer on instead of giving us negative shit.

We all are a downer on Ippo because we’ve seen him go all in and it was fucking beautiful, but it was a one time deal and he’s never even shown it again.

This should be what Ippo is like every fucking fight by now. He’s a renown boxer whos got a high world ranking, was the japanese champ for like years, and the destroyed like every champ in the OPSF or w/e it was called. This lack of confidence in himself during a fight shit should have ended awhile ago. Him taking so long to reach max gear in a fight should have ended. He should have banged Kumi like 9 years ago, and He should be near Takamura at this point in world championship belts.

I can’t disagree with that.

Plus it would have been far more interesting if both Ippo and Takamura were collecting championship belts and that was the real race. The final battle in the manga would have been Ippo vs. Takamura at Super Welterweight to prove once and for all who was the best, with Ippo coming out on top because of the Tekken he inherited from Kamogawa, proving Kamogawa’s true boxing is the best and can overcome any weight difference, which was a major thrusting point of the story.

As it is, with Takamura getting all these titles, it makes Ippo look even more a goof that he can’t even get one. Even if he did get one, when you have Takamura in the same gym, why is it such a big deal?

Getting 6 is insane sure, but getting 3-4 isn’t that crazy, or at least fighting in those different weight classes.

There’s only so much weight you can add at five feet three.

The Takamura of that weight class? It was shown really early on in his story arc that Takamura was several tiers above Sendo on a technical boxing level. That’s something that got lost in the shuffle when Takamura started trolling and trying to beetle flip people and shit. It’s been suggested that Takamura is an even stronger fighter, relatively speaking, than Martinez. Sendo is NOT on that level.

Am talking about his boxing aggression and general mentality. Ofcourse Takamura has more technical ability he is basically god in the HnI universe. Hes already stated to being superior to Martinez, probably in all aspects as well.

well the weight class that Ippo is in, has the man that hasn’t lost in 30 some years. the p4p champ (along with takamura). Beating Rico would be the same as beating a takamura in ippos weight class.

Well Lee Priest is 5’4 and competes at 196-205lbs Sure he’s on steroids, but he’s put on a lot of size on his frame.

The one thing I like about the Date vs Ricardo Martinez fight is that it was the first time Takamura looked truly surprised at someone’s skill. In most match observations he’s stoic and could predict much of what’s going on, but when he saw Ricardo’s true form even it surprised him.

Even though its stated that Takamura is the “One Above All” in the story, he’s never really displayed the sort of chess-like intellect and has struggled in his matches more than Martinez. Ricardo Martinez admitted that Eiji Date was the most challenging combatant of his career, and the dude didn’t even have one blemish on him. This is after a near-decade long career being at the top.

Takamura in his title matches has always struggled somewhat and has made a few dumb decisions in his matches. Takamura has the smarts when analyzing another fighter’s match and occasionally during certain moments in his own bouts, but in the end he usually wins through some brutish TAKAMURA SMASH! rampage that doesn’t translate as well to me as well as the refined boxer Ricardo is- “The perfect balance between Science and Violence.”

Well when I watched the Date/Ricardo fight, I could only conclude that Ricardo has a true understanding of boxing and that his boxing iq still hasn’t been revealed. Takamura has that high boxing iq as well, but as it was mentioned earlier, he is good about trolling and doing something silly. Ippo has a long way to go to reach Ricardo. He is basically going to be starting over in regards to developing a chess like mentality when going about facing his opponents. No doubt Sendo is strong, but no way is he Takamura of their weight class.

Now that I think about it, I would love to see in the future Volg face off against Ricardo. But that would be way off in the future. My only reasoning for that is because its Volg and he is awesome.

dude i watched all of that. one of my favorite arcs. Mashiba’s introduction from the latest chapter got me hyped up

Volgs moved up a weight class right?

He’s also the Champ.

As for Takamura he’s the unprofessional guy trying to become a professional. He’s brash, arrogant, but still insanely intelligent when it comes to boxing. He surpasses Martinez based on his opposition alone. They really do flesh out how important or strong Takamura’s big challenges are.

Martinez has run out of opponents because people avoid the weight class specifically to avoid him. Takumura does not have that problem.

Or in Mashiba’s and Miyata’s case, because they simply can’t fight at that level because of the harsh weight control requirements. Their builds simply don’t allow that.

But yeah, I’d like to see Vorg face off against copycat Ricardo.

What do you guys think the outcome would be of that match?

I think Volg would impress Ricardo with his skill and power. I don’t think he would win, but if Volg had more than enough time to train for the fight, then I think he would do extremely well. He is a lot more disciplined than Sendo or Ippo, and has a respectable boxing iq. Volg could be the Klitschko of the story.

Quality over quantity. The opponents that are gunning for Ricardo’s crown (sans Ippo) are all of high caliber, and according to Takamura, Date. who tried but failed, would of easily been the world champion if Ricardo didn’t exist and possess “otherworldly” gifts.

Volg as the Klitschko? More like the Kenshiro, takes a few Ls then becomes Saviour of Centuries End. Why you hate Volg so much dawg? He needs more manga time regardless, its kinda weird and strange luck that he goes from contender to journyman to champ quite suddenly.

Volg is the man. I love him, but if you look at Wladamir, dude took some L’s as well but then became a monster. Volg is a monster and I think anything with him giving us those amazing fights is worth it. I’ve been wanting to see him at least come out and spar with Ippo or somethin. Mashiba is a fav of mine, mainly because I am huge Hearns Stan, lol. Kimura should get some legit wins. I never forgot the Kimura/Mashiba fight, such an amazing fight that showed Kimura is a lot better than they let on.

Kimura is mid tier who is only probably made pro cause of the gym he was in, but I got feels for him. Kinda sucks hes kept down to be the foil to Aokis bullshit, hell we all know the frogman is done.
