I think he was gathering chi for a super. If Morikawa wasn’t such a troll this fight would be over next chapter, and Ippo would be redeemed for his Woli garbage. That way I might actually buy that Woli was just supreme talent and possibly even better than Martinez.
This dude is only Japanese challenger level, and he’s not even a top contender. He’s just some scrub. If Ippo is truly world class, he wins easily and proves there’s nobody in Japan that can be on his level.
If he fails, as I suspect he will, it only proves that all of his opponents always beat him up no matter what their skill level, showing that Ippo is some weird type of garbage fighter that probably lucks into wins or just tires opponents out by getting beat up until they’re tired.
