Am I the only person having trouble crossing up with Guy? I wanted to get down crossup j.mk, c.lk, bushin chain xx ex hosanto but i find the j.mk frequently whiffs.
I get that his jump arc is really good for mixups by cancelling into d.mp, but there’s no mixup without the odd crossup. The number of times the j.mk whiffed and I got thrown yesterday was incredibly frustrating
Is the hitbox on his j.mk pretty crappy or is it just me?
It takes some getting used to, as most other cross-ups in this game are done by characters with smaller jump arcs and wider hitboxes.
That’s why the untechable set-ups are so important. Outside of these specific setups, not only is it difficult to gauge the cross-up, but its difficulty is multiplied by the fact that you’re hitting a moving target. Trying to cross-up Akuma/Chun/Dictator without a throw/sweep/bushin grab is near impossible, simply because of their walking speeds and Guy’s slow jump.
So yeah, J.mk isn’t as braindead of a cross-up as say, Roses j.mk or Kens j.mk, but it is very useful(in the situations you mentioned), and merely takes a bit more patience and selective use in order to benefit Guy the most.
What the hell do you do with guy after you hit somene with his cr hk but it didn’t actually knockdown? It seems tricky to actually try to go for anything , the best I’ve come up with is just focus and then backdash if they didn’t try to attack, I just get stuffed out of flips and runstops all day after it.
I’d call this a blessing… Right now, not to many people get that their hit with a sweep, so they’ll continue whatever they’re doing. But later on, people will know, that is Guy’s sweep. They’ll figure they should be on the ground. Well, they’re still standing, and you’ve got options.
Right now I usually just use a wait and see approach, probably get a whiffed FK, SRK, or other “Getthehelloffmemove” for your trouble lol. Otherwise, you could run away.
here’s a quick question: how are you suppose to counter convict’s AA’s, or even his basic moves? what i’ve observed battling blanka ballers, is that you can run and f.hk to punish, but its not 100%, and since they took out the “bouncing” effect from alpha, it reduced Guy’s tierness.
I’m having some trouble w/ this too, since it seems 99.9% of people play by holding DB for-fucking-ever in this game.
Then again, my dumb ass keeps on trying to to complicated top-downs, like Run, HK instead of just simply doing his simple MP top down.
Good point.
Probably mention already, but his df+HK double hit pop 'em in the air long enough to execute either his Super or U1. Mostly corner trap though, but the Super tends to work a bit anywhere on the screen. Might need to double check the last point though.
[EDIT]
So it ONLY connects in the corner.
Ok I am posing this to the Guy army, but I was wondering if anyone has Ninja Sickle’ d a crossup, I think I did it a few times last night, but not sure if it was ill timed crossups that I tagged or empty jumpins.
I have yet to find a practical use for Ninja Sickle except for Balrog’s dash punches and even that’s not very reliable.
Ninja Sickle will link from a Jumping HP or HK, or a close-standing HK counter-hit. Outside of a corner you can do:
Jumping HP or HK, Ninja Sickle, EX Hozanto, FADC, EX Hozanto for 700 stun
In the corner, you can do either:
Jumping HK, Ninja Sickle, EX Hozanto, EX Hozanto (works on some characters, but the timing is tight) for 700 stun.
Jumping HK, Ninja Sickle, EX Hozanto, HK BSK for 665 stun (only 1 ex bar).
That’s a massive amount of stun in a single combo. If you’ve pushed someone into the corner with a simple Bushin Chain > EX Hozanto, and manage to land this afterwards, they are going to be dizzy if they have 1000 stun capacity or lower.
Ninja Sickle has limited use, but it helps generate a lot of stun within combos.
Yah its one of my favorite moves, I use it as a poke sometimes then variations of what you just typed, but I swear I dinged a few peeps with it on crossups

what are the best options following a blocked elbow drop? unblocked elbow drop?
i just started using guy and so far have just been following up elbow drops with jabs/throw mixups. i’m going to start mixing in izuna elbows/throws also. but what else can i follow up with?
i’ve just been follwing up with pokes and cancel into another flip>elbow. you could then follow up with pokes xx run>stop grab.
I noticed lots of people tend to throw you after blocking a d+mp. For those cases, I would go for an option select throw tech (done by crouching and pressing lp+lk). If he doesn’t try to throw you and gets hit instead, you can follow up with whatever. It can be target combo or some kind of mix up to add to the pressure and mindgames.
I haven’t really tried anything else after a blocked elbow, but I wonder if you could walk backwards and start a new blockstring? I usually don’t try that because the opp tries to throw me or pull some kind of reversal.
Another thing is to do cr.lp > st.mp > run stop to see what they do.
sorry if this was asked before, but what properties does ex bunshin have?
its homing within about 3/4 of the screen and the elbow from it is safe on block iirc
A Dhalsim won the first SFIV tournament, and did well in the tiers for a while, but continued to drop over time because while he has a lot of good tools he was still underpowered. That said, yeah, it’s way too early to be talking about buffs, but I do feel that Guy could get minor buffs already and he would still be far, far from OP.
I think Guy is one of those characters that would defy a tier list. I don’t want to get into a debate about what tier’s are, I’m not here for that.
The point I’m trying to make, is that Guy doesn’t have as much looking at the substance… But if you look at the tools he can give to an accomplished player, that player can make Guy shine with the crazy mix-up potential hes got. (For instance, Guile is a strict “youmustdothis” kind of character. Guy is the opposite)
Too long didn’t read? Guy might score low on future tier lists, but will probably kick a ton of ass in future tourneys… My opinion
