The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

alright so im trying to up my guy game level by playing specific matchups but i dont play offline due to transportation issues so I rely on online play. Im progressing really well in learning I even happen to beat 3kpp players in ranked. but i cant win consistantly due to lack of resources for matchups. learning in training mode isnt so bad but to get a hands on experience against a real rose or any character that i need help with is really hard. what do i do to cover whats missing.

Hello all,

I’m trying to do Trial 20 for Guy, which is st.HK, Bushin Kokusaken, Bushin Hasoken, but I’m having a hard time trying to link the st.HK into st.lp (the first hit for the Bushin Kokusaken target combo). Do I have to hold forward? It seems like the st.HK pushes Guy quite a ways back, making the st.lp not connect…

you are doing the st hk directly near the dummy right? like its close standing hk then followed by st lp.

I am, and I’ve pushed Dan into the corner as well. Is it just getting the timing right?

your most likely not timing the st lp right. try doing it a split second earlier than you normally do it.

Ah, thanks! Got it…now I’m stuck on 21 :stuck_out_tongue:

np man I basically spent a whole winter messing with trials for characters.

how do I exactly do the cr.lp into cr hk os? is it a plinking motion or do i press it at the same time because the cr.hk always comes out.

Same time. You want to press the cr.LP and cr.HK buttons during the chain-cancel window. If your first cr.LP hits (on hit or on block), then the cr.LP + cr.HK press will be a cr.LP chained from the first. If the first cr.LP whiffs, the cr.LP + cr.HK press will be a cr.HK.

Alright is there a specific timing I need to look at when a character wakes up to do a reversal than way I can increase my baiting/reading on characters when I rush down. Also do you guys ever have a hard time finishing the last round? Like its match point for you and your opponent has 10-20% health left but you cant seem to touch him/her? and back to the first question to elaborate on it I would bait 1 srk and after that I would tend to bait more than play the match with more rush down.

If your opponent has 10/20 % life left and you have a life lead… just wait it out don’t rush him or anything. They have to come to you at this point which is where you wait for a mistake or a situation where you can punish them or able to throw some chip on them.

ok whats guys safest move that chips though?

lp hozanto is safe on block, and run overhead is safe on block, but not against grapplers like zangief or abel.

Shotos can uppercut Run - Overhead on block.

unless its spaced properly… but i think then cr mk nabs it.

lp and mp hozanto are the safest on chip without FADC, and i believe MP hozanto does 30-32. EX Hozanto does the same damage as MP but needs to be FADC to be safe or you deal with someone that can’t punish it well. Same with HP Hozanto which does a whopping 40-42 chip i think. The next step up from this is Run Slide (EX for more damage), but that will always require an FADC. Run overhead and Tatsu do nice chip damage but only if your opponent is standing which well wouldn’t happen with tatsu and maybe for OH.

Probably answered multiple times before, sorry if so: how do you open up opponents with Guy? I feel like Guy’s got decent pokes, a buffer poke or two, and a godly priority slide, but these things all obviously lose to blocking. He can’t really play the high/low Run game, from what I’ve seen and understand anyone who knows the match-up will just block low then high and punish either Run attack. His FA doesn’t have the best range (decent, I guess), and he’s pretty easy to AA, especially because c.MKs all over punish his cross-up and elbow.

Basically, how do you open up turtles with Guy? Opponents who know how to AA at any given angle, who don’t take unnecessary risk more often than not, who have better footsies than Guy? What’s the ticket? This is coming from a Makoto player, who can play quite a mid-range can opener at any given time and with the correct choice get at a minimum 200 damage. It’s rough trying to get smart players to make mistakes and trying to poke forever in footsies gets me nowhere fast over the course of a match.

pro shoto players give guy alot of problems but they r not your worst match ups + frames, dive kick/grab or lk mix ups, 360s, blocking ,AAs,c.normals stop alot of guys tools with timing when needed. To me guy has a flexible style that can be delayed on timing for c.hits n grabs with frame+ on most set-ups (example: on block ->lpx2 or 1 into grab or mp~hp run/mp~hp focus cancel into grab or lk tetsu if u know the flaws then u know what not to risk with 50-40% life left u can time some characters(a bad/ok gief, makoto, cody, juri, dan.) out if u get a life lead before they get ultra guy is better(pokes, run or slide under jumpins, mp into flip way n tri jump out of corners, repeat)ssf4ae2012. anyone can win but if you don’t know the match ups ,if u don’t know the players habits or can’t stop +frame or safe weird set ups sim them in training mode after u c your reply lose/ win if u can’t find but play 4 fun btwif u know the players grab habit lk tetsu him in get free damage sometimes its a risk 4 a knockdown u may need but play it safe.habits like run overhead after every knockdownwake/dash/run into fireball kill guy block it plz it that years to die from chip fireball compare to the one that burns ur face n knocks u down n also mk tetsu ryu’s c.mp into fireball just not too close run stop at a safe s.mp c.lk range after knockdowns n mid/poke range after a knockdown do forward mp at max range it time it this on start up frames(u can cancel this n look cool n get another knockdown) have n u can c how they r blocking-have an ex n ultra 1 not 2 ready this works 100% if not(gief hawk XC hakan)

Okay can we not troll the threads? This has been a relatively respectful thread, there’s no need to go to that lengths Darryl because Fresco is still impartial to how Guy is in 2012 since Super, but to answer your question, Robot. Against turtle character sane as you would with makoto, you have to patient, either aim for footsies or bait them to make a bad move, I know Guy may not have a cmd grab or fast dash but high and low is the only mix up he really has. But against turtles its best to be patient and bait them every now and them and push them to the corner.

sorry blood i was trolling after the capcom live stream that wasted my time (no new character yet mainly no guy or cody) sorry fellow guy players the info i give has been edit to help you with less troll=less of my unneeded thoughts
