i find instant izuna difficult to time, and it’s angle dependent. ex izuna has 2 frames of startup invulnerability but i still suck horribly at timing it, but that startup invincibility i think makes it the ideal one to use.
c.mk and c.mp can work vs ryu but fail pretty bad vs some other characters. i think i might make a list of what are the anti airs to use against certain characters… it’s really annoying not knowing which anti air to use in character specific cases
So I just got done playing a friend who’s got tremendous execution, and he used Cammy and Rufus mostly. I could kinda deal with his Rufus b/c I can crouch tech w/cr. MP to AA Rufus’ instant dive kicks. At that point he’d just adjust the height at which he’d execute his dive kick, but if I engaged in a lucky exchange I would TK Izuna drop him out of it (which failed sometimes b/c of xbox live and well…me). So I feel that I can get a little better vs. Rufus with some practice.
BUT.
Cammy? CAMMY?!? She can go to hell. That ass. So against cammy, can you not use crouch tech w/cr. MP to stave off divekicks, or do I just suck? If indeed you can’t use crouch teching with cr. MP, what in the bleeding shit do you use to fend off cammy dive kick pressure?
you can also do the c.mp clk lp option select to beat cammy, but like rufus she can also adjust the height she does the dive kick. as a result, it’s risky business, just like with rufus
With dive kicks you have to crouch tech with cr.mp, on their way up as they do the dive kick.Its not a foolproof way of countering dive kicks and you sometimes do just have to take it and eat the mix up and hopefully come out of it ok.
Same thing goes for Rufus.For his high dive kicks though,jump back fierce works well.
I’ve got to ask but is cl Hp , LP hozanto a true blockstring? Every time I did it, I would sometimes land a CH or break someones focus cause they would attempt to attack during the Hozanto.
Rufus Is actually a little easier to deal with IMO, I dont have a problem with a good rufus as I do cammy. Best way I deal with cammy,Is believe it or not, Guy has pretty Decent Normals To zone with…I just make her eat mad damage trying to get in…and play a zoning/footsie game…Try to stay on your feet. If you knock cammy down…gotta make the best of it…especially when she dosent have 2 Bars… U can OS with c.mp and c.mk…but also good cammy’s will change the height of her cannon spikes…all in all…Cammy is a B**ch. I dont even like Mash on throw tech against good ones…Id rather eat a throw for 100-120 then get counter hit into (insert any cammy 200+ damage combo here).
Blocking is really important in this game. Especially with guy since he has shit defense. If you’re not good at it, I suggest you practice blocking and teching throws for the majority of a match in ranked or endless until you improve.
J.hk is the only jump in that will beat Ryu’s cr.mk but you have to hit it extremely late making it pretty easy to dp instead (since there’s no ambiguity about going for a crossup instead. You can just empty jump and block low but that’s risky as hell too. So you have to avoid jumping in too much because it simply doesn’t work. Problem is, Ryu is about 1000 times better than Guy on the ground.
Basically, that’s why Ryu is a horrible matchup for Guy along with all the shotos. They shut him down with one button.

As for anti-airs, cr.mp is actually pretty darn good and you can cancel it into Bushin flip to grab them out of their standing animation of you’re feeling ballsy.
Ryu matchup is truly fucked.This one has been annoying me recently,I do a deep crossup and Ryu does a cross cut DP (in other words well timed mashing) it trades and he gets a free ultra.WTF,I cant even cross the guy up now?
Yeah…I think its better to try and tech on reaction…but…its hard if your online only. Offline its pretty straight forward. I think im in a habit of pushing buttons when pressured…when I could just block…ala rufus and cammy…Damn you Online Ssf4 T_T.
it’s humanly impossible to tech on reaction. The best you can do is tech on prediction. Sometimes I press throw tech to the rhythm of my opponents attacks cause if you mash it wont work. With practice you get better at it and if you can read your opponent, you’ll have more options and you can make calculated risks.
I forget how many frames the brain can respond quickly too but I think it’s 15 frames which would make reacting to throws literally impossible. Kinda lazy to look it up but I think others know this as well.
Yea we need like 15-18f to react … also this is the case only IF you are expecting the throw no time to react to anything else… If the opponent did C.lpx3->walk up throw , you can tech that on reaction coz walking takes some frames…
But if he did anything else apart from throw like a C.Lk to CH ur tech you would get beaten …
I saw a match in Norcal touney(i think) where Marn tried to chip mago with EX MGB … Mago did a reaction DP … but the next match marn just did a LP MGB and mago did DP anyway …and marn punished that … EX MGB has about 14f of startup so like I said you can only do stuff on reaction if it is the only thing you are expecting…
