In regards to doing shoulders under fireballs, from full screen, if they are committed to throwing fireballs, FA forward dash the first fireball, then mp shoulder is guaranteed if they immediately throw out a second fireball.

My god. This is so annoying. I just found out, after getting my ass handed to me online for the last day or so, that about 1/3 of the time my controller doesn’t register my “down back” inputs. Frustrating, because it’s infrequent enough to lead me to believe it was ME. Tested this out in training and it was confirmed when I switched to another controller. Damn Microsoft products. So since switching controllers this morning and have been on a win streak.

Profound Sadness… over with.

hehe i knew it

Can anyone tell me what exactly are the properties of EX Bushin flip? I mean it seems to have a few frames of invincblility on start up but is that it? It doesn’t appear to seek like Akuma’s Demon flip so I’m wondering if it’s good for anything really?

it does track the opponent, just not very well. its not a demon flip, and its definitely not a hooligan. it has fireball and hit invincibility on startup. the EX version also has a larger grab box. honestly just save your meter for EX hozanto / EX tatsu … EX Bushin Flip is pretty lame… you cant even use it in reset combos because it goes too high up

EX flip is usually the easiest way to land a flip that grabs crouchers. Doing it the moment you can after any shoulder or mk tatsu will almost always make the timing right so you grab them on wakeup frames if they tech.

Also i’m still messing with it but it seems that EX flip on wakeup vs certain Options Selects might actually guarantee a grab.

Still i wouldn’t say EX flip is something you’ll use that often, but especially at a casual level the first one will wreck people. Do it a few times until they figure it out, and then just use it to bait reversals and punish.

the main things i use ex bushin flip for now is just catching people who are shitty at the fireball game and i can predict, and also use for the uncrouchable off houzanto, ex senpu, or throw, used on characters that don’t have a great wakeup reversal (rufus without meter, hakan, rose without meter, c.viper without meter, etc)

Definite newbie question here… haven’t played a SF game since SF2 Turbo, so bare with me. I’ve managed to complete all of Guy’s trials except 23 and 24. 23 is giving me some trouble. For the uninitiated, it’s Jump HK, Bushin Chain, FADC, Then Ultra 1. I’m having problems with the FADC into Ultra 1. Timing is damn strict and my fingers are cramping from trying to cram all that input into 1 second on a pad. Can I begin the Ultra 1 motion during the FADC? I know this sounds noobish, but I need to be able to understand why I can’t seem to do this. For the FADC, I need to Focus, Dash, then do Ultra 1 all while the guy is in the air?!

Any tips would be appreciated.

Yes, BigJB. Just do it all really fast. Hit the FADC right after you see the HK on the Bushin Chain hit, dash and buffer the ultra motion into the dash. You can try doing it without the FADC in the corner to get some kind of timing established. Bushin Chain > U1 in the corner works with no FADC required so maybe that’ll help you.

BigJB, you can also try combining the FADC with the Ultra motion.

instead of:
double tap forward (for the fadc), d, df, f, d, df, f, KKK (for the ultra)

you can combine it to become:
f, d, df, f, (which will cause the FADC, and count as the first quarter circle of the ultra), d, df, f, KKK

just make sure you do the first part quick enough to get the fadc out. its should make it a bit easier.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping for… I will give it a try a little later. I’m sure this could also be a useful shortcut for actual play.

So I begin the Focus, then F, D, DF, F (which should bring me out of the Focus animation), then F, DF, F, PPP?

yessir. begin focus, F, D, DF, F (dashes out of focus), then D, DF, F, KKK.

simplified, its F, QCF x2, KKK

^^ just went into the lab and was messing with it. it works, but you have to do it at about the same speed as just doing it the normal way: focus, F, F, QCF x 2, KKK

just try and work it up to speed with characters that have DP fadc ultra combos. cammy’s is pretty easy to do. just work it up to speed with them, then go back into training mode with guy and see if you can do it

Sometimes when I’m rushing down a character, and say I begin a combo that is blocked, but is designed to push the opponent away (like cr. lp, cr. lp, target combo, LP hozanto), I get thrown, or a special attack hits me and it interrupts. Does this mean that my combo string wasn’t timed correctly and I need to practice more? Or does this mean that the opponent just did the correct counter at the correct time, and I shouldn’t try it again against that opponent?

If you’re getting thrown before the hozanto it probably means you’re doing a FP one instead of a LP. That’s what happens to me sometimes anyway…

Probably not my issue. The time I get thrown (or special’d) is usually either after the 2 jabs, or after the standing MP part of the target combo. I very rarely ever touch fierce for the Hozanto, since it’s relatively worthless compared to the Jab and EX versions.

Sure yeah I know it’s worthless, I just hit it by mistake sometimes after the target combo. I don’t see why you’re getting interrupted then, I think it should be a valid block string?

If by special moves, do you mean Shoryukens? Because, these moves can be done/mashed during blockstrings, since they come out pretty much instantly with invincibility frames, beating whatever attack is coming out next in the blockstring. That’s why you should sometimes try stopping after the two jabs, and bait out these moves. But, if you’re getting SRK after the MP, that means you’re not pressing the HP fast enough after the MP, as it’s a target combo and can’t be interrupted between the MP and HP no matter what.

As for getting thrown, the only thing I can think of is your leaving too much of a gap between the jabs and the target combo if your getting thrown after the jabs. If your getting thrown after the MP, as I said above, you’re probably not pressing the HP fast enough after the MP/

i was ultra 1 grabbed by Zangief before my lp hozanto hit after a blocked HP…

Sure, you shouldn’t ever be using that combo against grapplers but it should be safe from regular throws
