The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

Nice display. I didn’t know about bushin flip into neck break. man that first combo on dudley

So it looks like Omega mode is, all the ridiculous shit in the Changes thread that didn’t make it to the final product. Such as that teleport! They also kinda put in my joke idea of making Run slide a guard breaker, with that EX version multi hitting lol.

Does anyone know what’s the deal with the new neutral jump HK though? The only thing I could follow up was Super, and that’s only in the corner.

As for the down+PP, it looks like an easy empty buffer, just throwing far MP -> down+PP. I don’t see the point in using it in Bushin Chain though.

I’m unable to follow cl.st.hk with bushin chain (lp whiffs) or target combo (second hit whiffs) against Rolento. Has it always been like this or was Rolentos hurt box changed in v.1.04? I still can do for example j.hk,cl.st.hk,bushin chain.

It’s been like that, they never changed his hitbox to be in better form like Elena or Poison, but you can walk forward a bit to do Bushin Chain at least, get in the habit of doing that as well as a few times when you punish certain folks it’ll push them out of st.lp range. Yay Ultra hurtboxes and their weird quirks…

How should Guy fight E.Ryu effectively?

It boils down to spacing.

Just like against Akuma, Guy’s cr LK xx EX Hozanto can be used to whiff punish cr MK (hitting the extended leg)

If cr MK just barely misses you, Guy has time to walk forward and punish with far MP. If you’re VERY close though, you don’t even need to walk forward, far MP will hit his widened torso hurtbox.

If at a close range where it looks like Guy is just barely touching ERyu with his hand, and Guy uses a target combo (MP->HP) and ERyu blocks it then immediately throws cr MK, Guy has time to back step out of it, and use either of the two punish options mentioned above.

Guy’s far MP alone also gives enough push back for ERyu’s immediate cr MK to whiff completely.

Hi, I got a couple of questions if anyone is still here lol.

Does Guy have any decent anti-air for neutral jumps in his face? Also is there a list somewhere of the characters that cl.hk, far.hp, far.mp connects on? Thanks.

Neutral jump HP or HK is best, but for ground normals, use close HK and press it quickly. Close HP isn’t too reliable because it gets stuffed or trades with the better neutral jump attacks like Adon and Sakura’s neutral jump HK. If you have bar to spare, use EX hurricane. TK kaiten izuna works well but only if you see the jump coming, otherwise it’s not practical.

Big body combo (cl HK -> far HP -> far MP) works on Blanka, Zangief, Guile, Dhalsim, Balrog, Sagat, Seth, Gouken, Hawk, Dee Jay, Guy, Adon, Hugo.

You can also connect it on Abel and Cammy, only after a jump in attack, but the former can be hit after a focus crumple.

Thanks bro!

Quick question that might have been asked before. Why do I rarely see Guy players end their hitconfirm before linking into TC with cr. lp? I know when range is an issue you’re better off using cr. lk and when you need to punish something you can rely on your 3f cr. lk quite nicely, but in every other case, wouldn’t ending with a cr. lp be the best possible option? It does make st. mp a 2f link compared to the 1f link it is when you’re linking it off cr. lk. Add plinking to that and you get a 3f link, that’s alot more consistent.

I’m not saying I never see it used, but it’s definitely rather rare. Am I missing some obvious advantage about cr. lk aside from the things I already mentioned?

Probably to minimize damage scaling or because Guy player doesn’t want to risk a whiff cr LP (the range isn’t too great).

Otherwise, Guy players do indeed use the cr LK -> cr LP hit confirm.

Ah, I didn’t take the damage scaling into account. Thanks for clarifying.

I’ve been told that Guy beats both Guile and Sagat, this would be useful to me if it’s true as my other characters kinda suffer vs both of them. So does Guy actually beat them? And does anyone have some insight into the matchups at all?

i think its better to try to beat people trying to walk back aswell.

Hey Guys, I’m an intermediate Guy player and know all of his basics and 90% of his advanced combos.
However there is one combo I am really struggling to pull off consistently(only getting it about 5% of the time right now).
The combo i’m trying to master is Cl. HK, St. HP, St. MP, EX Hozanto. Now i’m not too sure if this is character specific but if it is please list the characters it works on.
I plink the whole combo and the St. MP still RARELY hits, I can get the St. HP after the Cl. HK about 80% of the time. I’m really struggling here and any input would be appreciated as this seems like guys strongest punish that I should master.

The combo isn’t hard since there’s no 1 frame links, you just need to get the timing down, you might even have an easier time without plinking.

Thanks very much, i’ll keep this in mind

Does guy have any tech vs rolentos that do tech backroll?

I’m thinking of scenarios where you’re doing a light string like cr., cr.lp. If you throw he techs, if you try to frame trap he rolls out and avoids it. Even stuff like hard read s.hp or s.hk doesn’t work as well as I’d like because they whiff a lot and if he picks up on this he can counter hit me if he doesn’t roll.

So I know his MP xx Run pressure, but is there more I could do to pressure my opponents?
If I do Guy’s 4 Hit combo, should I try to hit confirm this after a Cr. Jab or Shorts?

Close stMp xx Run Stop is safer than Far stMp xx Run Stop on block. Target Combo xx Run Stop is generally good because it is a hit confirm, but leaves you slightly further away. Close stMk on block, crLk beats alot of reversals if it is tight enough. Against charge characters you can use crLp on block, crLk which beats alot of there reversals. You have to experiment with alot of these in training mode. Record Guy doing alot of these against various characters to see what works for you.
