this is probably because heās got the best back dash in the game (i think itās supposed to be fully invincible or fully airborne or something). probably a way to slightly balance his wakeup game out or something?
fao anyone who has this game early - can you test out anti air booms please. for example, record ryu doing jumping hk, then hit it at close range with a boom. see if you can hit him with any of these as a follow up (it might only work on counter hit):
- air throw
- df.hk, flash kick
- sonic hurricane

Well, I guess thatās cool if you can combo from his overhead but⦠damn that sounds like a one frame link? Im not putting up with important 1 frame links after hating that crap in sf4. Do you have to be really close for it to combo at least, so that the situation wont come up very often?

Are you saying you can get alpha counter while blocking? Or is it forward+FP+RH or neutral+FP+RH? If you can block while mashing FP+HK thatās HUGE!
Edit: When I say āwhile blockingā I mean while holding backwards or down back. I am aware that it was previously thought to be forward+FP+RH, but while in block animation.
you have to be in block animation to get an alpha counter. You can also be holding any direction(even neutral) while literally mashing fierce+rh. Alpha counter is really really easy now that I found this out. Itās not as hard as people said before. There is a small window to do it, but if someone is putting you in a bunch of block stun, you can just sit there mashing fierce+rh the same way you can mash DP while in block stun in SF4. Something like Rufusās EX messiah is alpha counter bait. Although dont do the alpha counter too early or the invincibility on the EX messiah will overpower the invincibility of guileās FK. EX messiah still has tons of invincibility.

Holy crap, I just played with alpha counter some more. ** It seems like only guile can do this**. I canāt mash alpha counter with a couple other characters I tested. They have to do f+fierce+rh. T****his is really really good for guile and probably a glitch. I donāt have time to test every single character with this. Maybe this weekend. For now it looks like only guile can do this.
EDIT: Hahahaā¦you can literally just be walking up to someone like Ryu for example. If you smell that heās going to throw out a crouch kick to keep you out, just go to DB to block the kick and immediately smash fierce+rh. This is so broken. Start stocking up on those meter building gems.
Could you please test this for Dhalsim?
Edit: Three hypotheses:
1: All charge characters can use alpha counters this way

Dhalsim has to press f+fierce+rh for his AC. Even f+fierce+rh is pretty easy to do for the other characters. Itās just really really easy for guile.
EDIT: I already tried for other charge characters. Itās the first thing I thought of. The other charge characters have to do f+fierce+rh.
Thank you for checking! I didnāt find it too easy to use the apha counter in a real match when I had to tap forward, so I was so hype when you said you could hold back:( But I guess with more practice it is pretty easy to utilize it anyway!
seth did mention the alpha counters are better for some characters than they are for others. perhaps this is because of how unsafe flash kick is. plus it costs a bar of meterā¦and from what iāve heard, alpha counters do awful damage. the way youāre describing it does make it sound pretty broken though.
Guileās alpha counter does 125 damage. His short FK does 120 damage.
Damn, I just saw Jinās FB for the first time. Itās anti-guile and just anti-SF in general. Imagine vipers ground pound where the effect just stays on screen for a few moments The effect doesnāt come from the ground, theyāre these orbs that appear in specific spots in the arena, like vipers ground pound.
yea i was watching a jin walkthrough and they said he was like the ultimate guile counter pick lol.
Itās a pretty important question what the best use of meter is. Since sonic hurricane is just a boom motion, it may be really easy to land it on reaction to jumps, or many special moves. How much damage does it do? I guess more than 300? It could be more valuable than getting two alpha counters. On the other hand, alpha counters give you a get out of jail free card, and thus prevent you from taking damage as well.
iāve been told by 3 separate people that guileās alpha counter is near broken lol.
I played against my friend today, and I told him about the Guile alpha counter, and he was able to consistently punish my standing fierce from across the screen when I was Dhalsim. Itās not a good punish for 1 meter, but itās still scary that he can do that so easily:P
Are we sure that Guile is literally the only character with this alpha counter property? Or are there any other charge characters who can do it?

no one is sure yet, but everyone iāve asked about guile has said heās really good in this game.
edit - when i mean really good, i mean he made a solid transition to this game (aka heās better than vanilla guile). i think a lot of people were worried he was going to be absolutely shit in this game. itās pretty safe to assume heās not top tier, but still playable.
So far he sounds very good to me if two things are true: - He has good, consistent anti-airs. -There arenāt too many characters who can punish sonic booms on reaction.
Im actually wondering if the easy input gems could make the second issue more of a problem. Like if there are special moves that can hit sonics on reaction if all the person has to do is input one direction plus a button.
