I’ve never really appreciated Last of Us or Uncharted tbh.

They are average cover shooters with better than average stories.

They always felt kind of souless to me. I never stuck with them for long though.

My opinion.

Its a good game, really good… but not that good.

Its a very well executed 3rd person action/stealth with a good story.

The problem is, that “good” story, is a movie type story, and by movie standards, its pretty bog standard.

I prefer the modern tomb raider games, yes, they are quite a bit dumber, but that lets them be much more entertaining as games. Game stories do not need to be movie stories. The mediums are very different, and as such, the story in a game has different goals.

Pretty much. I think it leans too heavily into movies as apposed to the new God of War which seems to be a beautiful example of pushing what a game can be. Maybe Horizon Zero Dawn too but i never fucked with it.

God of war is pretty much fantastic on all counts. The only complaints I would level against it is that due to the semi-grindy setup of the game the story can lose momentum or have too much momentum. (gameplay wise I think the combat system still need work, but its good).

Horizon’s “story” is fine, but its a bit of a tease.

The game spends alot of time dangling the “what happened to the world” carrot, in front of you, but I didn’t find the answer all that compelling. Though part of that may be, as an open world type game, by the time I got that answer at the end of the game… I was bored. Still a great game though.

I think Naughty Dogs greatest skill is making a game experience that is user friendly and intuitive. They make really accessible games that casuals can enjoy.

To be blunt…

Ever since Uncharted 1, I think Naughty Dog has just become a graphics factory. Thankfully their games are still quite good, but i just can’t shake the feeling they don’t really want to be games at all, but just showcases for their technical and “storytelling” prowess.

its kinda how I feel about RDR2 also.

So, I’ve read the spoilers.

The story seems more coherent than I expected.
Still, due to… certain plot points, I can see people going apeshit.

No, I’m not dropping actual spoilers here, deal with it.

I expected Shenmue 3 levels of “lmao, this is hot garbage.” y’all overreacting.

You nailed it.

This is probably telling that I would probably hate The Last of Us because with the new Tomb Raider games I was already feeling that they were taking themselves way too seriously with the story.

I thought the first one of the reboot series showed a lot of potential story-wise, but after Rise and Shadow I’d like for them to go back to something more classic and campy. Classic unashamed action heroine Lara Croft instead of “deconstructed” action heroine Lara Croft where she’s still killing a bajillion people but look at how conflicted and sorry she feels about it.

The Last of Us is probably a good game for what it is and for what it wants to be: the dramatic counterpart to Uncharted’s action set in a zombie apocalypse I guess. But I don’t find either things to be appealing, so…

For what its worth Shadow, while it still takes it self pretty seriously (despite being very dumb at points). Plays very well, and leans much harder into stealth, and puzzles than 2013 or Rise which suits it well, especially with the DLC which adds a ton of new tombs (and they are integrated into the main game pretty seamlessly).

As someone that shits on American games allot TLOU wasn’t bad. It’s a movie game but it’s probably one of the best movie games. I actually felt like the general gameplay was miles better than most of the Uncharted’s except 2 (That game is a masterpiece don’t @ me).

But what they did to Joel in this one… I just don’t understand why the west is so obsessed with shitting on traditional masculine characters. Shit is sus as fuck. When the 2nd trailer for TLOU2 came out during E3 last year the part that had niggas going crazy is when they showed Joel. He legit was holding down the first game like a king. Neil Druckman is a fucking dummy.

I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree. What I’ve seen is terrible. I’m not dropping links either but holy shit if you liked the characters from the last game this new shit is whack.

I have read no spoilers, but based on TLOU 1.

I expect every main character to die like a dog in the ditch because… That like the whole point of the universe.

especially after the torture porn trailer, its pretty clear they are going for maximum misery.

Which to be clear, is fine by me.

Oh I expected characters to die and shit. I knew Joel would most likely have to hold an L. But holy shit lmao

All together with me now!

SJWs!!!

The stupid-ass idea that to pander to feminine crowds, you have to remove any strong male characters or constantly make them underperform and be saved by the strong, borderline invincible female lead.

That’s even more sus, because that makes it look like female leads can’t thrive where strong male characters exist.

Obviously, we can have both coexist and the result is usually great, see RE3R (Or even the original, but the Remake does the story better) for a recent example.
Both Jill and Carlos are great characters and work very well together.

But noooo, SJW Feminism ain’t about equality.

Inb4 I get canceled for this.

Let me rephrase.

I expect everyone to die almost meaningless deaths… just like most of the first games.

Given Joel isn’t playable, I bet he goes out either at the very beginning of the game, or at the midpoint to be a story “tipping point”.

Like I said, I’m honestly fine with it.

And I completely understand. But my point was that the story isn’t an incoherent mess. The plot point you’re referencing makes perfect sense with the theme they’re trying to establish.

On the other hand...

Let’s be real if you weren’t expecting Joel to bite the dust after the reveal of grown-up Ellie being the main character, you were way too optimistic, to begin with.

Still sucks when a character you like dies, so I really get what you mean.

Zooey is out. Not sure if it’s just pc or not

Friend legitimately spent the two hours before his wedding wandering around town playing the game (in suit), and half (at least) the reception wandering around some Wiltshire golf course looking for rare wee bastards.

Ironically, by the time Go released, despite having a ton of friends who just hopped in the casual train, I didn’t want to touch that game with a 10ft pole.

No PvP trainer battles? Just some wack cpu battles with mons set by other players?

Get this garbage outta my sight.
