She has godlike zoning on top of strong setplay and general big normals.
She also got Bors to become Unga Bunga.
Instant Overheads.
Plus OB Headstomps
A Airdash arc that fucks with a lot of common AAs.
And if she scores a CH she can delete healthbars with ease.
But you will need to delay everything, literally everything.
So I’m currently playing Final Fantasy X, partially because I’m somewhat enjoying myself, but mostly because I need something to do while I’m exercising, and that game is slow enough for me to have no issues playing it while getting my daily dose of movement (I’ve put a spinning bike in front of my PS4 + screen). I mention this on the norwegian FG discord, and a bunch of dudes jump out and want to talk about it. Specifically about minmaxing and how they grinded the game for literal hundreds of hours to complete everything and how it’s the best game ever. I’m not in it for grinding, and when I ask if they think it was worth spending their time like that or if they had fun doing it the response was “no duh of course not but you have to do it”.
I thought this was kinda weird, then it suddenly hit me: all of the guys pushing for me to GRIND ALL THE THINGS are massive FG labmonsters. They apparently want to wring every single little piece out of the games they play and get a lot more invested in that stuff than me, while I’m more of a “well, this is good enough, cba doing anything I’m not actually enjoying when I’m playing a video game” and just keep going with that.
Might be a coincidence, but it’s an interesting observation.
I prefer going HAM on my opponents, not on the inner workings of the engine :V
Seriously though, there’s a reason I pretty much only play straightforward characters in FGs. In fact, I generally pick the solid, straightforward and flexible strategies in nearly every type of game I play. Easy to pick up, allows to learn the actual nuances of the game without ending up tunnel visioning too much, so it’s possible to pick up skills that will be useful in other, similar games.
Lab monsters gonna lab monster, genre ain’t got nothing to do with it.
FFX was the only latter day FF I finished, so it’s not bad. Being voiced helped. But beyond that I don’t remember anything noteworthy of the game. I didn’t like the weird ballgame, but I retried getting the Jecht Shot early on cause it felt like doing a SF trial with the bonus of getting some closure with dear ol dad.
My opinions of the game are mostly a mixed bag as of yet, but I’m liking the game well enough to keep playing and wanting to see what happens next. I’m not that far in, but I’m enjoying the main thrust of the narrative right now and the combat isn’t bad.
The voice acting though. Wakka and Tidus are pretty good, but everyone else is somewhere between “not good” and “my ears, aaaaghhhgh”. Yuna is particularly bad, and Seymour’s delivering his lines in such a forced creepy way that I’m almost certain I’m killing that guy at some point late game.
FFX is solid, not top tier - but one of the better final fantasy’s in my opinion. As for the voice acting there are some cringe worthy scenes but I won’t go into detail… Overall, it’s a very good game. I think I played it through twice.
Besides the possibility of fucking up the combo, strive wild throw is still lame because it completely removes the burst game that both players could do and also reduces sol’s options when the move hits, since hes forced to switch sides instead of choosing where he follows up from. I know the point of strive is to reduce depth so I shouldnt be too miffed at it, but taking all that away and replacing it with meme damage is just bleh
If you’re referring to the infamous laughing scene, I don’t get why the VA actually had to point out to people that it was forced. That was literally what the entire scene was trying to set up. It was weird but it felt fine. Literally all my serious issues with the voices stem from Yuna and Seymour this far, though most of the characters are just… not very good, though inoffensively so.
One thing’s for certain though: I’m enjoying FFX helluvalot more than the PS1 FFs. Those I’ve tried playing multiple times and they just don’t do it for me.
See, those are legitimate complaints. The damage though? Nah, that part just doesn’t bother me yet, have to see how the rest of the game plays out before I make any judgements on that. If I even do play Strive.
