Great cop story:

SUMTER, SC (WIS) -

A Sumter police officer went above and beyond for a 13-year-old boy.

A few weeks ago, 13-year-old Cameron Simmons called Sumter police because he was upset after fighting with his mom. The teenager told police he didn’t want to live in the house with his family anymore.

Officer Gaetano Acerra responded to the call.

“I said, ‘You have it good, you have a roof over your head,’” said Acerra. “I told him I would try to help him out, and here we are now.”

The officer brought Simmons home, and realized the boy didn’t have a real bed. In fact, Simmons didn’t have nearly anything he needed for a bedroom.

“My heart went out for him,” said Acerra. “I thought the little things that he needed I could give him, to make him a happier kid.”

A few weeks after the call, Acerra showed up at Simmon’s house with a truck full of gifts.

“Bed, TV, desk, chair, a Wii game system that somebody donated to me because of the story I told them,” said Acerra.

Simmons told Acerra that because of the new bed, his back won’t hurt anymore.

Simmons was sleeping on an inflatable mattress. The teenager said the mattress would slowly deflate throughout the night.

“I didn’t do this for publicity or to get people to notice me,” Acerra said. “I did it because I could. It was the right thing to do and I think people should do things like this.”

Officer Acerra said he has gained more than just a few pats on the back; he’s gained friend.

Acerra gave Simmons his cell phone number, and told him to call anytime.

Acerra plans to bring Simmons more bedroom furniture, including a dresser and mirror.

A spokesperson from the Sumter Police Department said Thursday since the story aired, Officer Acerra has fielded a few calls from people wanting to help the Simmons family.

I always held a belief that some people deliberating thrive for positions in law enforcement just for the power it brings, and not become they want to protect the community.

I find it so ridiculous that people felt the necessity to bring their firearms with them while going on their one-item trip to Target. What dangers could you possibly face at Target?

“I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,” he pleaded. “I have asthma, I have asthma.”

In the half-hour or so after his arrest late one night last September, Azucena said over and over that he was struggling for breath. Numerous LAPD officers and sergeants heard his pleas for medical attention but ignored them even as his condition visibly worsened.

“You can breathe just fine,” one sergeant told him. “You can talk, so you can breathe.”

Black TV Producer Mistaken for Bank Robber: Beverly Hills PD 'Deeply Regrets'...

SMH. I understand it takes time to get to the footage, but 6 hours, nah. They would rather arrest, waste time, and try to convict an innocent man, then just do a minimal amount of work in making sure they have the right suspect, and arent wasting time while the actual suspect gets away. If they listened to what he had to say, or even asked him anything, they would have found out who he is, where he is coming from, and where he was going. All things they could easily use to put together the pieces that maybe they should double check the eye witness account, and get a hold of that footage asap, because you might be wrongly arresting a man for doing nothing, while the actual criminal gets away.

*What I don’t get………WHAT I DON”T GET, is, why, during the 45 minutes that they had me on the curb, handcuffed in the sun, before they locked me up and took away my civil rights, that they could not simply review the ATM and bank’s HD video footage to clearly see that the “tall, bald headed, black male”… did not fit MY description.

Why, at 11:59pm (approximately 6 hours later), was the video footage reviewed only after my request to the Lead Detective for the Beverly Hills Police Department and an FBI Agent to do so, and, after being directly accused by another FBI Special Agent of “…going in and out of the bank several times complaining about the ATM Machine to cause a distraction…” thereby aiding in the armed robbery attempt of a bank that I never heard of, or ever been to; and within 10 minutes……10 MINUTES, my lawyer was told that I was being release because it was clear that it was not me.

The sad thing is, prior to my freedom being taken from me for an easily proven crime I did not commit, I was walking back to my car, by myself, because I needed to check my parking meter, so that I wouldn’t get a ticket and break the law. In fact, if it wasn’t for a text message that I was responding to, I would have actually been running up LaCienega Blvd when the first Beverly Hills Police Officer approached me. Running!

I want to thank GOD, Robin Lola Harrison of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, Robert Dowdy and Attorney Jaaye Person-Lynn , without whom, I am certain that I would still be locked up in the custody of the Beverly Hills Police Department. Based on comments made by a Beverly Hills Police Officer during my booking, and an FBI Special Agent, it appeared that they had tried and convicted me.*

A Greater Manchester Police officer has been forced to step down over the fatal shooting of an unarmed colleague during a training exercise.

PC Terry, from Burnley in Lancashire, was not wearing body armour when he was hit from a distance of about 12in (30.5cm) by a blank round of specialist ammunition not designed to kill.

He was playing the role of a criminal fleeing in a car.

An inquest held in March 2010 found PC Terry was unlawfully killed, but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said there was “insufficient evidence” to bring criminal charges in relation to his death.
