I entered my code for the Apollo skin at godofwar.com/skins. After not getting an email, I went into account management from the XMB and entered the code there, and I got it.
With the exception of the cestus, all the others were the blades of exile with a slight twist to them. I did like the fact that magic was weapon specific. I continuosly messed up controlling that in the first two games
ending
[details=Spoiler] While I haven’t seen the other 2 endings. I sorta get the gist of what went down. And to me it seemed like the ending was a fitting conclusion to the story arc. He was consumed by vengeance and guilt the entire time and finally found a way to let go of his demons. And after practically destroying the world he gives mankind hope by killing himself. I think all that tied everything up very well, had he just killed Zeus and become the God of Olympus I think would have been more anti-climatic. Have you played RE5? That shit was anti-climatic.
But again I haven’t finished the other 2 so maybe those endings are just dope as fuck:smokin:[/details]
This is just my opinion so take it for what it is i guess.
To me, The god of war Trilogy * not counting the psp game in this since that was a prequel * Was all together one core game. The same can’t be said for lets say, something like Halo.
The books play big roles in the core story so you need to read those, lots of things happen in between each game that you need to research to find out whats going on, and the gameplay in all 3 games are so different from each other * mechanics wise, yes you point and shoot in all 3 games but you guys know what i mean * that they can be categorized in such a way thats like , yeah. part 1 was the best, then 3 and then 2, because of the story, gameplay and options.
Again, same can be said for something like Resident Evil. Each game gives us something completely new, so they are not the same in that essence besides the brand name.
God of war , however, is just one long game, one long story. Truthfully, i remember ( was is david jaffe, or barlog? i forget… ) Said they didn’t even want to call the sequels to god of war , God of War II and God of War III, just release them with a different box art and call it God of War, Since they themselves wanted this to be one long story arc that begins immediately where the last game ended.
When i play God of War, i feel they achieved this. I can’t say part 2 is the best, nor part 1 or 3. Its all the same. Its just one core game with only some of the moves kratos does in combat being changed. The flow of the game, the progression, direction of the story and the combat stay exactly the same until its all over. God or War I, II and III = God of War the game. Simple as that.
Now…if i was put on the spot, and i HAD to choose, which one of the 3 i liked the most, i would probably have to say part II. It was just insane. The graphics pushed PS2 to its limits that blew my mind when i first played it, the story was awesome and it had a sick ass ending hyping up part 3.
IF! God of war III was around 2 or 3 hours longer and had a better ending, with more bonus features * you know, the " what ifs? And hidden message movie scenes you can watch after beating the game that were in god of war 1 and i think god of war 2 * Then God of War III would be the best. Right now, the epic scale of the game and the insane graphics, and tired and true formula gameplay is what makes God of War III Great. Not the best, but still great.
The game was ok. The only fun boss fight was the first one. The beginning was so corny with them all lined up like some super villain squad haha. Why were most of the weapons whips? For the most part it was just rehashed gameplay with some nice graphics. Gow2 blew this one away.
I agree with Dios except for 2 being the best. They really did achieve that trilogy thing.
While 3 most definitely has the weakest story of the 3, I feel the gameplay overall is the best. But maybe I am being a little biased here: 2 ended on a cliffhanger, which I HATED. I despise cliffhangers, even if there was quite enough going on before them to satisfy me. GOW3’s ending, even with it’s faults, was reasonable to end the series with considering there was nothing else to do at that point.
GoW2 > GoW3 >> GoW1 > GoW: CoO
This is actually the third time where I think the next-gen action game sequel was inferior to its PS2 predecessor(Devil May Cry, Resident Evil being the others). That said, GoW3 is better than DMC4/RE5 ^_%
Well, it appears I will never be able to play the damn Combat Arena, since the Challenges are an invincible brick wall standing in the way. It would’ve been so nice if both were just accessible right away after beating the game, but no. I beat the crowd control, that one where you have to get 5 of those big guys to spawn(after dying what, at least 30 times?!) and the only easy one where you have to smash all the pots in a time limit. I see myself possibly beating the Matador-Ole! challenge one day…but even that one is a stretch. The “Get Stoned” one? Nigga please. That’s next to impossible. That’s almost on par with a Battletoads game. No Combat Arena for me then…not now, not ever…fuck… I’ve found the 1 and only thing about the game that has annoyed me.
I have a really hard time focusing on this game because I hate the story. I plan on beating it tonight and I’ll try to post my impressions tonight or tomorrow.
For a second I thought you were talking about FF13…
Have to agree with most of what Dios said
GoW2 was prolly the best overall, 3 was a good game, no doubt abotu that, but the story, the ending, and even some of the mechanics (I died more to double jump failures than anything else I think) all kinda combined to be a bit meh
Yeah, I HATE challenges like that. Instead of testing your real abilities, the mostly gimp you with something stupid.
I beat the matador one with luck, and only survived the Stoned one when I found out that parrying the stare will freeze you way quicker if you don’t do anything. Try that. Before the satyrs show up, try to grab the gorgons with the O button. This will always get them to try and freeze you. You parry it, do nothing, freeze, and break out as quick as you can. When all the big time enemies show up, you have to roll to a safe spot on the map to do this.
just saw the boss battles and the ending, shit was dope. though i know the ending cant wait to reach it myself.
also the story and such might not be as fleshed out, but the fighting is what matters in this type of games. from what ive seen, gow3 looks to be the best one so far.
C’mon Million, I beat those in 45 minutes top. The 5 cyclops spawn was the easiest one, since you can just do square, square, triangle and the cyclops get hitstun, and then do the O button finisher so you can kill them while you have invincibility frames.
For the matador one, you can lure them to the edge, and then roll off(make sure you keep pressing X so you don’t fall off the arena and hang on to the edge). Just L1-Square the weak minion guys.
Stoned is the hardest one, and I did get luck near the end, but its possible! Remember to grab the gorgons instantly. As soon as you do that, they will reel back and hit you with their stone-eye gaze, which you can parry(with a HUGE window, might I add), and you can press the wrong button to stone yourself faster(or press the right button to get some of the enemies off you, its crazy in that place).
I found these to be the easiest challenges in the series, actually(probably because I was actually able to beat them.
aha! I actually beat the challenges a little while ago! Matador actually isn’t that bad since it’s shorter than I imagined…the wave that has regular guys + 2 or 3 minotaurs spawning at the same time happens to be the last one! The L1+O grapple/shoulder hit move once again saves the day…it easily gets you past Minotaur #1 of course along with the 2 pack that shows up next, as you can simply knock them off the edge with that…regular guys are taken down with the quickness by that whirlwind L1+square move (+ a defensive roll when I notice one getting close.)
The grab and “failed parry” tactic I’ve read about here and at the gamefaqs board works beautifully since you get stone-frozen much quicker. It still appears to require a fair amount of luck though once the screen is loaded with enemies. Occasionally, I would successfully parry it just to kill off a satyr or 2 since they appear to be the biggest threats before the big guys show up at the end…then of course I go back to failing the parry on purpose.
These challenges also made me appreciate that air-dash you get with the Hermes boots a lot more…air dash can really save your ass in critical situations.
Just finished the game on Hard mode. Loved it, and think over all it’s the best in the series, though it’s not better than GoWII by much. I think GoWII was better paced over all, but loved the boss fights in GoWIII and the combat is a lot more satisfying now as well. Having other weapons aside from the blades to use that aren’t useless was a big plus too. Now it’s time to take a break from it and maybe start the challenges and go back and grab a few things I missed on my first time through.

This is a website you get for getting a platinum trophy, and there’s a meter on the right. Rumors are it’s a counter for the amount of people who’ve gotten platinum trophies, and when it’s unlocked it’ll show the epilogue that wasn’t put in the game. I guess Stig Asmussen said they might put up the epilogue for free DLC. So get to working on those platinum trophies guys. Did anyone get the 1000 hit combo achievement? If so I’d like to know which part of the game you got it at. It’s probably later in the game so spoiler tag it.
I think the ending really couldn’t have been much of anything other than what it was.
I’d had it pretty well lined out in my head well before ever playing the game.
But one thing was so very different than my imaginings that it made being so utterly spot-on with everything else almost not bothersome.
The look on Kratos’s face, at the end.
That little motion picture was worth a billion words, and spoke more about his true character than the rest of the trilogy in its entirety.
1000 hit
Spoiler
I got it when fighting the guardians at the door into the city of Olympia. All I did was use L1+O with the Claws of Hades. The skulls hit multiple times, cause stun, and do no damage. I spammed it for a few minutes while occasionally dodging when one got through to me. Cheap, but effective. :bgrin:
Also, fuck the challenges. I just finished them, and I can safely say that they weren’t any fun. The combat arena is awesome though. I loaded it with regular joes and vented my frustration.
indeed, i actually liked the ending and i aint even play the game yet. shit was too epic, ending included.
