The GGPO Discussion Thread

It sometimes feels like you’re replying to your own inner demons, and not me.

I’ll try to keep it simple: You are not an engineer, and you do not know what sort of limitations they were working with. You are perfectly free to state that the end product did not meet your approval, but to state that you have the proper engineering solution to the issue AND the proper solution is easy to implement is simply speaking from complete ignorance. Even I am ignorant of the particulars of their engineering decisions, but I do know how the process of scoping a project works, and the idea that their network code approach (not the result, but how they attempt to achieve the result) was influenced by some dudes on the internet is incredibly silly.

Regarding the sound issue, we’re not talking about “casual complaints”. Having the sound work is minimum acceptable performance. Having Skullgirls display character sprites and not hitboxes across all Xbox SKUs is not “casual concern”, it’s minimum acceptable performance. When Capcom fixed the sound bug, it wasn’t Pro-Scrub / Anti-Real Player, it was because their game was fucking broken and needed to be fixed. Personally, I would be mortified if a product I worked on shipped with such a horrible bug, so regardless of Scrub-pressure, I would do everything in my power to fix it.

Additionally, a PR failure (with the DLC) is not the same thing as a handful of complaints about network code approach (not results). They certainly do care about complaints about poor performance, but they probably don’t bend over backward to external non-engineers who are not familiar with the project making engineering demands.

I mean the amount of dropped inputs. Finalburn is used on both, yet it is the GUI that have an impact on inputs.
when I press T to chat on finalburn, why is it that Supercade FBA accepts text immediately, while GGPO FBA has a slight delay?

I mean inputs on high level play. can you play the game on keyboard with the exact same speed you do on a pad or a stick?

anyway, my aim is not to promote one over another, just mentioned some concerns. I’ll not respond further. thanks for your “inputs”

cause my computeer is ass.

I was playing on a 866mhz computer I had laying around for quite a while. The most minimal of computers these days can run the cps2
eogeo games prefectly. The older kof games and some of the classics like vsav, ST and A2 all can be played very well online as long as you don’t have someone abusing the connections.

Some people’s religious-like fanaticism over GGPO being the second coming of Jesus of netcodes still makes me laugh.

online sucks ten out of ten times

call it what you will.

I’ve been playing online since 1999 and nothing for fighting games is as good as GGPO and its a pretty clear fact. If you’re too dense to understand it, then I fully understand where you’re coming from since you joined last year. I’m sure your years worth of knowledge is really valuable…

several world champions and top 8 placers @ EVO have said online has helped them train. I think the most famous person to say it is afro legends but there have been others like snakeyes and gamerbee. Don’t forget the year gamerbee became known, he was playing online entirely came out to EVO and waxed our best american player in Justin Wong. And online is supposed to be garbage?

Under the right circumstances, WITH A GOOD NET CODE, online is fucking fantastic to use as a training tool. Its not rocket science, almost any decent player can understand that concept. Playing online with a bad net code sucks 10\10 as its the case with sf4\umvc3 online outside of Japan.

Ah yes, because under no circumstance could I have lurked this or other forums before actually joining up, and no way could’ve I used the internet in general before registering to SRK forums. Therefore I only know that what has existed just then and after I registered opposed to actual years worth of “valuable” knowledge. Retard.

why does less than 5% of GGPO play Vsav? ;(

I suck at that game but I’d love to play it while skullgirls PS3 match making is bad.

Honestly I think part of it also is the intensely aggro pose. I’m pretty sure people read these discussion and think ‘well if people on GGPO are like that, I’ll pass.’

I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. I use keyboard for kof98 and 2k2 and I’d definitely consider GGPO over Supercade…I don’t know what keyboard has to do with anything here.

Ok thats a bit of an overstatement. Its better than only fighting the CPU.

Because I got a Mac. Does this work on a Mac?

You’d prolly have to use something like Bootcamp to get it run, or just dual boot to Windows. It doesn’t run “straight” under Mac AFAIK.

its better than cpu but onlien still sucks 10/10 times

No it does not.

how?

I’m not going to answer such a dumb question

tournament scene is pretty aggro, does that stop people from showing up to those? bad logic is bad. In fact, tournament scene is probably 100x more aggro and yet people still show up including newer players. Lets not forget about the anonymity that is so easy to do online. Your name can be shitter mcbigger on GGPO and if you suck ass how are people going to know its you? your excuse is the weakest one I’ve ever heard and its honestly laughable as fuck

GGPO is a training tool and it can especially useful for sf4 players who have terrible footsie skills. You can go back and play ST\HF\CE and work on those core fundamentals against ridiculously god like players and even ask them questions and general things. How should I try to footsie, when I should I attempt a counter hit or a wiff punish, is it smart to try to wiff punish lk\lp on reaction since those normals are really fast?

If you can be general about your questions, you’d be surprised how valid the training is.

This thread is nothing but yet another “I hate (insert game here) because nobody wants to play (insert game that I like here)” thread that seems to be the norm in FGD.
