I might have a go with this. Getting back into SF4 heavily lately after a 6 month hiatus, but most of what I know is still very much present.
.
Yeah Ive been editing the google document now, basically incorporating my old research from previous threads. So how does this work? I just upload the doc online again or send it to ugo?
.

I made some changes to the layout, the FrontPage looks like shit on googledocs for some reason but whatever, that’s just some temporary shit.
- added more color to headlines, things like framedata so its clearer if it is negative or positive frames etc.
- general layout changes
- added section on crane overview
- added some combos and notes to go with them.
- minor changes in language and some rewriting of the introduction to Gen page
- added general section about mantis super and ultra including my punish guide from the Gen shenanigans thread.
I will add a lot more at a later date.
So I did a little bit of research to refine some of the information (I didn’t do much lol)
St.HP -> HP Gekiro whiffs on:
- Sagat
- Cody
- Guile
- El Fuerte
Also, I feel that for bnbs, cr.lk, st.lp is a better start than cr.lk, cr.lp due to the damage increase even if it is only a tiny bit.
BUT the st.lp will whiff on certain characters, being:
- Ryu (unless you delay it)
- Ken (delay as well) the delay is easiest against ryu and ken. aside from them, the link is more strict with the delay
- Dan
- Chun
- Yun (delay)
- Yang (delay)
- Viper (delay)
- Cammy (you can’t do mp, hp link if she’s crouching either)
- Blanka
This also means you can’t spam st.lp because the first one will hit (plain standing lp will never whiff on it’s own, just during hit/block stun), but the rest will go right over. Overall cr.lp is safer, but with dan, chun, cammy, and blanka being the only characters that truly dodge it; it’s not a bad idea to get used to st.lp instead.
On top of these things, I also want to touch on the guide itself. I feel that the most essential parts that we’re missing atm are our safe jumps and our cross up setups. I know they’re going to be put in because they already exist on threads, but for the oga cross up section I’d like to suggest something:
Instead of doing it by character, we should do it by setup. Like, whenever I’m in a match, mainly the setup I’m thinking of is the forward throw, cr.mp(or just wait), walk forward, lk oga or forward throw, cr.hk, lk oga. These seem to be the two that are most common. That or I’m thinking about whether or not I can do a cross up from a back throw like with Ibuki. So instead of listing it the way we have it in the cross up document already we can make it so it would be easier to remember. So if I go up against, let’s say a sagat, it’ll be easier to remember that sagat is a character that falls under the forward throw, cr.mp(or just wait), walk forward, oga category as well as the back throw set up category. Plus it’ll be easy to remember that he needs hk oga to cross up with back throw and mk for the forward throw because he’s so tall. I could type it up later if anyone thinks this is a good idea. Not sure if I completely got my point across though.
Also, who’s currently in charge of the official doc?
Warlike
I’ll work on it during these next few weeks, but I will need someone to make it all look nice when I have the raw concept file ready. Huggy Bear are you still up for that?
The good news is that pretty much all the info is already here on these boards, I just have to find it all and rewrite it for the guide. I’ll try to be as objective as possible ofcourse, however I cannot do any writeups for U2 because I have never even used them except in training mode haha.
I dont have photoshop so I cant make it look very pretty like the makoto guide. A cover much like that of the Makoto guide would be pretty cool. Afaik its just a blowup screenshot of makoto with a photoshop filter over it, but it looks great.
Well if you could continue posting it as you update it that would be awesome. I’ll keep reading it and helping out. Unfortunately I’m not too great with layouts and stuff, but I could easily make a cover photo that looks good. Aside from that, what do you think about my concept for the oga setups? If you even think it might be a good idea I’ll type it out so you can get a feel for what I’m talking about.
.
It sounds like a great idea, and would help me out a lot actually. We did make a lot of lists regarding oga crossups in the past yeah.
@Fade out, thats pretty cool actually! Unless someone else comes up with something I will use it.
.
This was a bad idea. I havent played SF4 since december or so and jumping back in I pretty much get destroyed to point of going from 4000pp to 2500pp and I’m quickly losing interest in the game again just like I did at the time I quit. I thought an hiatus would do me some good but it just made everything more frustrating and boring, I am not going to continue writing this guide as I personally have no incentive anymore. There doesn’t seem to be much interest in the guide anyway.
Anyways here is what I have done so far:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EfWx-WApIeQMZIcECk_T-_X5t9abcOOTF01tGDpp_Cc/edit
- layout changes to make it more nice and tidy
- added bunch of combos that any Gen imo should know
- rewrote the introduction a little
- added icons to the attack data that werent there
- added a section about anti airs
- added section about super and ultra information (U1 because i know nothing about U2 except that they suck dick)
If anyone wants to pick it up be my guest, but to be honest most of the Gen veterans I know don’t even post anymore and/or are inactive.
Hey dont allow me come there and bitch slap you to China during the MING DYNASTY, so you lost 1500PP, I have lost 7-0 to a Guy player and Xian has losing streak that goes into 10+ losing streak. everyone has them. So get off your wound licking ass and get this shit done man. so what if Top players dont post no more, last I checked 98% of videos on youtube are from players like us with the pros scared of getting downloaded. I personally have over 100+ gen vids on my channel and I am not considered top by the FGC. so please shove that PRO Player excuse up a mantis ass and do something you will be remembered for by the Gen community.
.
Problem is I dont feel like going through all the motions again to become great again, especially not with a character like Gen which is going to take ages (which I really don’t have).
Anyway the file is there if anyone wants to work on it. Its looking pretty good right now, I put all of the basics in there right now except for the section regarding his throw and focus attacks.
If you guys want combos or set ups recording in HD. Let me know haha. I love this shit.
If it is going to take ages then you never knew how to play Gen in the first place, Once you connect to the character no matter how long you dont play it only takes a few hours or at worse a few days and you are back on par. you have all you need already.
This is not the warlike I know and looked up to. do whatever you believe best. I never knew you to be one to back off because of a mere losing streak.
.
What I mean is SF4 does not pique my interest as much anymore as I thought it would when I started playing again. I’m not going to be working on a guide for a game I will hardly be playing anymore. I perhaps would continue if there was enough demand for one but at this stage it doesn’t seem like it. Most of the stickies (the guide lists thread I made covers almost everything except the VERY basic stuff) contains all the info a new player would ever need combined with the SRK wiki.
