The Gem System Thread

Yo dawg we put meter building in your meter building so you can build meter while you build meter.

-_-’ i can’t believe i didn’t realize how good some of the pre-order gems are…Like the pre-order version of fortitude lv.2 is 20% damage reduction so -200 damage. the standard one is -160 damage and its a lv.2 also however i found many differences in % values in the same lv.

a few examples are these.

-Onslaught lv.2(standard) 40% C.Gauge boost when partner connects with a launcher. -15 secs.
-Onslaught lv.2(King of Iron Fist) 20% C.Gauge boost when you land 4 special moves. -15 secs.

-Fortitude lv.2(standard) +160 damage reduction when you activated Pandora. -10 secs.
-Fortitude lv.2(Lightning Legs) 20%(+200) damage reduction when you get hit with 3 special moves. -15 secs.

other notable mentions are…

-Immense power Lv.2(Lightning Legs) 20% damage boost when you land 10 normals. -15 secs.(1 slot)
-Divine Speed EX lv.3(Iron Curtain) 30% speed boost when you connect 4 special moves. -30 secs.(2 slots)
-Immense power EX lv.2(King of Iron Fist) 20% damage boost and 10% C.Gauge healing when your partner lands two launchers. -20 secs.(2 slots)
-Fortitude lv.2(King of Iron Fist) 20% damage reduction when your hit with a 10 hit combo. -15 secs.(1 slot)

im half asleep so forgive my lateness…uhhg…having 2 fortitude lv.2 gems is like eating a super for free…

To be honest I’d rather gems make little difference than make a real difference.

Gems aren’t a central mechanic as the SFXT promotional campaigns have been saying. It’s just a cute, fun gimmick that can give you some satisfaction when sometimes your gem-plan pays off and you manage to get that little bit of extra damage or survivability to win the round, that’s all.

As a mechanic, you can probably just ignore it.

What happens when two different types of gems are activated in terms of the glow?
Can you make out which two kinds of gems are active?

the last gem activated…but here is some food of though…

agree or disagree?

I’m inclined to believe that these are mistyped for a few reasons.

It makes more sense that the Level 2 20% damage reduction is actually an Iron Wall gem than to assume that it gives you a damage shield for 20% of your health even though every other fortitude gem uses flat health values.

It makes more sense that the 20% level 2 King of Iron Fist meter gem is actually Proficiency, not Onslaught, because that number is associated with Proficiency.

Probably the case for other stats on there that seem off-kilter.

they may or may not be, because the official sites list one of of the onslaught gems with incorrect information(you’ll know it when you see it), but thats a standard gem, not a pre-order gem. that and retailers offering the gems have the same list, so im stuck in the middle.

however, as debated with another user on unity, certain pre-order gets are just better then the standard counter part, some with the exact same activation condition and boost however without the drawback. which makes my theory on pre-order gems alittle more solid, that being giving the player the incentive to purchase said gems as they are better then whats loaded in the game naturally, though this brings up other issues, i dont see why that can’t be the case here.

P.S. i don’t intentionally try to start arguments and im sorry if it seems that way R-D, bro fist?

I think the latest gem glows.

You can see by your super gauge which gems are lit though. I’m assuming they are in the order you preselect them.

No, they activate under their pre-set conditions…order has nothing to do with it.

Agree.

I was responding to the post (forgot to quote) regarding which gems glow when you have multiple ones activated.

its the general idea of it too, people want to have the same experience…I don’t like this kind of thing to happen.

early in this console generation you can buy a game new or used and still have the same content and or experince aside from early functions of DLC.
now and days with games like LA Noire, Batman AC, FFXIII-2, and SFxTK having different content at different retailers, why should it matter where i get the game from? should it matter that i purchased it in the first place? its affects used games as well, because some pre-order content never gets released for download or better yet cost extra $, Gamers who buy used games start to see that it isn’t worth buying games used anymore because of all the hurdles and BS Companies make you do to prove your loyalty to them . Its ok if its tangible items like a Artbook or a figure, thats fine because those are things that are exclusive to some degree, in game Content however should never be marketed that way.

I feel this way about it…If you want to feel special, buy the collectors edition, whats what their made for, the general fan or gamer who is willing to spend a few more dollars to get something special. However, its wrong to give consumers different experiences of the same product because he or she decided to purchase the game from a different retailer, or to a lesser extent purchasing the game second hand.

I know this doesn’t directly involve gems and im sorry for the lecture, however it does involve them because lets face it, a majority of the arguments here involving gems is directly related in acquisition of them. I’m a firm believer in the idea that everyone should get the same game at its core.

when SFIV came out, essentially everyone got the same game, even if they got the game second hand(a large % do). when it comes to SFxTK, if gems are a important component, why is new buys(outside of CE buyers) getting different experiences and second hand buyers are coming up short?

uhhg sorry for the rant again.

Because Capcom doesn’t get a cent from second hand buyers; they’re not interested in their experience unless they can earn a couple of dollars from it. Withholding gems means that even second hand sales may result in some income for their product.

Anyway, not sure if I asked this before, but is anyone pre-ordering the CE in the UK?
I haven’t seen any mention of the pre-order gems for it here.

Not to mention cutting stuff out of the game unless you buy it new… (looking at you, Batman)

DLC gems is just icing on the cake IMO. I don’t think tournaments will run them, so they won’t have a huge effect. There won’t be any disadvantage to having it out there. If nobody’s going to use it for tournaments, then that’s it. It’s optional for people who want this kind of stuff.

You have to remember, these things exist because there is a market for them in the first place. People are paying for these in general and that’s why they keep coming up. It’s lucrative. It may not mean much to you but it does to enough people who want to support it. They’re not forcing anybody to buy it.

In this sense, it’s like those Soulcalibur 5 customization stuff. Tournaments won’t be running any CAS since hit boxes can be changed a little bit, so they’re all standard 1p and 2p versions. But most people don’t care that much online since they’re running customized things.

Let the gems roll. DLC gems will probably become like Jill & Shuma DLC characters in UMVC3 where nobody uses them. looks at MVC3 CE case cries

Perhaps you’re right but learning a character is a lot different than equipping a gem that fulfills a certain niche. If you play Jill or Shuma then play somewhere and they’re not available, you better have another character ready. With gems it would mean choosing one that’s close enough or simply going for an offense/defense gem.

It doesn’t matter, In the long run a used game sale is like a long term investment, if you got SFIV used, chances are you either liked it or hated it, if you liked it, you most likely would pay for the newest game for full price, thats good marketing.

It still does not excuse this DLC dilemma either, If i bought the game used, I still would want to opportunity to purchase the dlc like anyone else would have done if they bought the game new. Like what Ben was hinting at, the people who bought Batman used had to spend like $10 to play as Catwoman(Lolz) but at least it was an option day 1, for Gems…Seth said “Eventually”, that doesn’t add up to me.

thats a problem…Gems or any gameplay related DLC shouldn’t be treated like that. For better or Worse, Blazblue players had their characters, KOFXIII there is no problem people having their DLC characters, why when it came to Marvel(a bigger game then the previously mentioned) this is a problem? It makes little sense, It should have been mandatory. This has nothing to do with Gems themselves but the principle of having things available for tournament use is the Issue.

The impact of gems from some players first impressions don’t seem to be that overbearing. So I am not worried about it at this point. Hopefully an early copy leaks next week haha. I am really excited for the game.

Oh, I’m not defending it or anything. I’m just saying that appears to be the logic behind it; making money off second-hand sales (and extorting a bit more from people who already paid £40 for the gam, I guess).
Batman’s a good example though; had I bought the game second hand there was no way I was going to pay £8 for a couple of sidemissions. However, gem prices are yet to be announced, aren’t they?

The prices are probably in line with costumes; you get a bunch for 360msp/$4
