The Gem System Thread

Considering that he’s talking to “lay” players, he probably wanted things be kept simple, keeping it at the big picture so to speak. He wasn’t going to go into the depth behind fighting games; that’s not his job. When you think about it this way, this is a win-win situation for newbies and vets. The new players will learn on how to pick up strategy quicker while the veteran players can have a custom groove. A new player will be able to pick up that his opponent might like to throw fireballs so he needs to be patient and learn to strike when opportunity comes.

I disagree, too many people are learning how to play SFIV and completely ignoring footsies and zoning, this is something the mainstream press has affected quite a lot.

But they DO, that’s why the concept of bad press exists, to let people know that something isn’t satisfactory.
What are you on

No, they don’t. Patrick Klepek will not write up an awesome article about why you are an asshole just because your game is just bad. When games are bad, people usually just don’t talk about them because it’s not worth their time. That’s why you don’t see articles on the frontpage about every shitty fighter that comes out. It’s boring and nobody cares.

It’s just far more realistic that they changed it out of a legitimate desire to make a good game and please fans.

Metroid Other M

That is all.

Dragon Age 2 is a better example IMO, the actual designers and writers of the game took time out of their own day to get on their forum and try valiantly to dispel all critique of the game.

What are you talking about? This is a fighting game enthusiast forum, people criticize games all the time and not just to troll. Even random doujin games. There are posts on this website about what exactly is wrong with Naruto games, Dragonball games, Kamen-fucking-Rider games etc.

Read the Big Bang Beat thread, read the Million Knights Vermillion thread, read any number of threads about any number of games, good or bad. We make these games worth our time. You’ve been a member for more than a year and perhaps have been reading the forum for much longer, have you never encountered this behaviour?

Interestingly Clockw0rk recently made his opinion about gems known, stating that assist gems “are best suited for other players”. He pretty much just said, in the most polite way possible, that the autoblock gem is for scrubs. It will be interesting to see more opinions from other top players…

We know that Ultra David strongly disagrees with Clockw0rk on this one; so it seems like the pro’s haven’t come to some universal agreement on the matter yet either. My guess would be that most of them are waiting for more information to be released before they let their opinions be known, which is probably the wise thing to do.

However, as this thread has shown, wisdom isn’t all that much fun; it is better to make poorly informed conclusions and descend into hyperbole. Not that there is anything wrong with a little theory fighting mind you (which is what the more reasonable posts have been doing)… Either way, someone is going to be eating crow when the game is finally released. People are making statements far too conclusive for that not to happen.

Yupp I rather Bitch about a system mechanic before trying it out… <----- true story

What you’d rather do is just whine and whine about other people. If you’re interested in talking about the game, do so. If the gem doesn’t work as speculated, good!

I’m sick of hearing people tell me to discuss this game in a way that they want.

I just read some of the posts above its only 1 person doing it. People should stop telling others how to talk about the game its just rude.

It’s been happening frequently all across the thread.

Yeah than that should stop as a whole then. Next time just ignore them.

Alright, that’s a good point. If some dude decides to do it doesn’t mean we should waste time on them.

The last dev blog said they were still working on the gem glows. What do you guys want to be done for that? I just want it where you have the glow lasting briefly instead of having a lasting aura. The glow would just be an indicator that the gem has been activated and you’d just need to check their meter (since you’ll be doing that anyway) to see when it’s finished. It’d be an improvement over the current eye sore.

Yea a brief glow to let you know it is activated. Or just make a distinctive noise when it is activated and let the gem in the slot glow bright.

Found this today, it should give us all a good chuckle and a Riot for others.

well it seems like they are going through alot of R&D with Gems so i think they are taking their time in doing the necessary balancing for them. with different activation requirements and such~ Seth did say it would be hard for someone to get all 3 gems to activate all at once. but im sure that will be the meta game for this particular game…is activating multiple gems in 1 combo.

as i said before im interested in the C.Gauge Gems and what would be required to activate those gems. I don’t mind Assist Gems but, i don’t think i would ever need to use them.

as one person mentioned before, you can not select gems at all and im sure initially people will try to do the stupid banning of gems upon release but hopefully people will get over it and well see some interesting Gem Sets and Character Teams at tournaments as this game seems like it mite end up being very big in terms of content.

Red= power bost
Greed= speed
yellow= defense
blue= ???
purple= assist

So where does extra meter fit in?Under assist?

Blue = ???
I believe that is for the SA gems
I remember around the time of the pre-order info coming out that there was a SA gem set. So I assume they are blue
