The Gem System Thread

facepalm…If u r looking for a SF4 game like exp. this is not ur game…this game again is way different then any other before it, it is a Vs. game…u need reminding in fact everyone does why i think this game will still be hype…remember when it first was seen, listen to the reaction

Now with the inclusion of gems, still listen to the hype behind SFcrossTK
All of this is hype but start at 6:33-6:56 for example listen to the hype of seeing this combo in action, in fact watch it all if u haven’t of the Wow’s and oww’s or just noises of excitement when they are learning more about the fighting engine besides the gems

acutally this game shares alot with SFIV, from Links, to shortcuts(i’ve tested a few personally) but sure, it isnt as slow as SFIV nor is the Oki game as limited as it was in SFIV(so your not given the 50/50 ultimatum all the time) your just angry with everyone for unexplained reasons…and i can safely say, chill out…if you wasnt using Bold text or Caps all the time, people would take you aittle more spuriously. highlight what you need to but dont make yourself come off as Angry Joe…because i dont think anyone respects him…

everyone wants to get to the bottom of the Gem System, its just people have to understand how it works, and actually listen to what other people have to say…before jumping the gun…

You can learn about this rehash of Marvel Super Heroes, Im just gonna not buy it. I will just keep playing fighters that capcom made that required skill. Enjoy.

Funnily enough I thought you were going for a much more nuanced argument, that a person who had slotted this gem would be losing meters by eating Guile’s pokes and Sonic Booms. Once they got in they would have trouble getting through Guile’s block or dealing effective damage because they had little to no meter. That’s what I thought you were hinting at with your sarcasm, and that is what I responded to.

But in any case, if the gem corrects high/low it would make you immune to Guile’s crossup (since he would likely not have any other way to force you into a situation where you could block wrong). If you’re willing to spend the meter, it allows you to bulldog through his keepaway by giving you a perfect block, just like Alpha 1 (apparently).

That wasn’t targeted at you. Learn some reading comprehension

No, I’m talking about at the start of the match and throughout the entire match. By having this gem, you will limit your options. You are tacking on yet another thing to use meter for in a system where meter means life or death, win or lose.
So go ahead, put the gem on and enjoy never getting the chance to accomplish anything because you can’t alpha counter, because you can’t tag cancel, because you can’t use ex moves, because you can’t super, because you can’t cross assault.

All you’ll be doing the whole match is blocking while the buffer opponent who also has more options to hit you, and once you get that hit, your damage will be so inconsequential you’ll still have huge ground to makeup.

Stop and consider the game, not the gem. You are sticking this gem into other games, games where the opponent can’t increase their speed, their damage output, and god knows what else is in store, games where meter might be used for a super and that’s about all.

I:'m going to use League of Legends Ressurect here for an example. This is a summoner spell, one of 12, that allows you to correct your mistake. It makes it so you revive from death with increased movement speed so that you can’t jump to your lane and start farming for gold. Now in League of Legends other than your opponent getting gold and experience there is no penalty for death. This was suppose to be a powerful summoner spell, but it wasn’t.

Why?

Because all it did was correct your mistake. While the opponent got to teleport, speed themselves up, set you on fire, slow you down, and small teleport through walls, all you get to do is fix your mistake, and there isn’t even a penalty for that shit. Here we are talking about a penalty, and what appears to be a big penalty given our current knowledge of how the game works.

So go ahead, throw away your basic options as well as the potential for additional options as your character isn’t maxed out with the correct buffs, because not a single game with this kind of system has the tool that allowed you to fix your mistake EVER been anything near a powerful tool, ESPECIALLY when fixing that mistake came with a penalty. Get your little 10 percent damage on the off chance you actually find a way to hit me. I’ll enjoy my 60 percent damage combos, my safe SRKs with a tag cancels, and blowing up your attempts at mixups with an alpha counter.

wtf?!

Dude this game looks mad fun, and im hype for it. i think it will require skill.

i like all of the fighting mechanics with in SFxTK esp. the cross gauge, the game looks fast and pretty intense

The gems seem interesting all the better…lets go!

I think the main issue with the auto-block gem, and why I probably personally won’t use it, is that of the fact that it is indeed always on. I can’t turn it off to conserve meter, then just switch it on when a mix-up is coming. I’d most likely lose a lot of meter to people mashing loose block strings, or just to random footsies. You’d lose out on damage potential, counter ability, the ability to put them in some kinda block then safely tag cancel out (I think tag cancelling costs meter anyways) and a gem slot that could be used elsewhere.

I don’t think it’s useless, actually I think a crud ton of people will probably use it early on, but I think it’s something that will fade away with time when people find ways to exploit it.

Yeah okay, you make a post about Guile, I respond, you say you were sarcastically talking about Guile in the next post in the thread so I guess I need some more reading comprehension.

How vague and non-specific is this shit. “You will limit your options”. Let me give you a heads-up on what life/death win/lose means in a fighting game. It means having health in your health bar when your opponent has 0. For fuck’s sake you keep saying the same thing over and over, over and over. Meter is the holy grail or something, even better than the ability to free-block a mixup into a combo. For real?

This will only happen if the gem actually does it’s job. If I am losing enough meter with this gem slotted it means if I didn’t have it I’d be dead!

This will only happen if the gem is doing its job i.e.preventing me from eating damage from the attacker. What a roundabout way you have to looking at this.

For the love of God, I’m not the one who isn’t considering the game!

The basic win/lose condition of League of Legends is not a health-bar, which when depleted loses you the match. That you think these two (Resurrect and the Gem) are comparable says a lot about your understanding of both these games, the relative value of things is really lost on you it seems. If you want an example of a powerful option in League, pick Flash. How often do you see Flash on bars?

Your next paragraph doesn’t merit a response.

Yea dont like the gem system. Heard it can’t be turned disabled huh. Seems like there is gonna be some OP ass gems used lol. We see about this.

I assume you can start with no gems though. Competitive wise it seems like a nightmare to include this although they probably won’t bother. Even a simple damage boost can scale things well over. But just maybe they could get it to work. It would be quite hard tho.

Online play for this game gonna be a true bitch.

I am done with this conversation (about this one particular gem anyway)

It could be godlike it could suck. I don’t care anymore.

What is more important is the gem system as a whole, which I am looking forward to so long as :

 1. There are no exclusive gems giving some players an advantage over others.

 2. There are no paid DLC gems which would turn the game into Magic the gathering. (whoever buys the best stuff usually wins)

I was busy posting up a huge post how this auto-block Gem can be insane when good players use it…and especially Versus chars who can easily perfect or have a strong vortex like Akuma, Seth, Ibuki, Viper (Who will be put in an auto-bad matchup Vs Auto-block gem users) but its pretty much what a poster before me said:

‘‘So for a meter I get to free myself out of a potentially lethal mixup? That gem is beyond godlike. Do I want to spend 2 bars in SF4 to deal with dudley’s, ibuki’s, Akuma’s, Viper’s mixups? Why yes, yes I would.’’ Exactly. This gem is stupid, good players already don’t get hit by 95% of the more damaging setups…now for the one time they might slip up and finally get opened, bamn blocked for 1 meter. And the fact that you build 1 meter for using 3 meter shows how quick you can get meter. Lmao. ‘‘Ono: I want your grandma to be able to play this’’ Says it all tbh haha.

Man Fck CC lolll. When I saw that image that said ‘‘Solution for frequent fighting game problems! Teching…Blocking…A player that has practiced the game for years being better than a beginner now solved!;’’ Get the hell outta here…Since when was crouch teching considered hard? Since when was it unfair that a player that trains forever could easily destroy a beginner? When I first got SF4 and I played a friend that bodied me like 20-0 it inspired me to get better…fighting good players inspires you to get better…Noobs don’t need an unfair advantage against skill, they need to get better by practicing sg8sg09sg09sg lol

There are already exclusive gems. Paid DLC gems have not been announced, but it’s pretty obvious that was the whole idea to begin with. They’re coming.

You need to learn how to post on an internet forum. Not every post below yours is responding to you. Multiple post are created within a very short time between each other.

I say it over, and over, and over because you don’t get it.

BLOCKING WON’T MATTER IF THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO AFTER YOU BLOCK. IF YOU CAN’T THREATEN THE OPPONENT IN ANY WAY, WHAT REASON DOES HE HAVE TO FEAR YOU? BECAUSE YOU BLOCK FOR A BAR? WOOO, FUCKING SCARY.
Your damage output is in the garbage can
Your own pressure game is weakened
You have less buffs than the opponent
What the FUCK are you going to do after you block. Why should I even care if your damage output and pressure game is so dismal? How the hell are you going to win?
You aren’t, you are only delaying the inevitable.

“Blocking won’t matter if there nothing you can do” = Blocking won’t matter because there is nothing you can do after a block right? HAHAHAHAHA. You lost 1 meter! It’s the end of the world! You need meter because this game has a lot of meters and obviously meter must be really important!

You lost 1 bar of meter instead of losing a chunk of health from a combo. You can’t be reasoned with because you really don’t get it. You’re stuck in ideas of stuff like “pressure” and “damage output” which are concepts a lot more refined (and hence in your hands, vague jargon) than “dealing damage” and “not taking damage”. You will say it over and over again because you have no idea what I’m talking about.

You don’t have less buffs than your opponent by the way, the ability to auto-block is a super strong buff in every sense. Acting as if there’s other buffs that you are missing out on is acting like this gem is worthless when the reverse is true. That’s laughable.

as long as the exclusive gems are aesthetic in nature or just funny/joke ones it’s cool. You missed the important point I was making there… gems that give advantages over other players. If they don’t are are just for looks or funny then I don’t care.

For as much as you’ve been mentioning reading comprehension in this thread you sure didn’t comprehend what I wrote at all.

http://www.2d-x.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Seth-Killian-NYCC11-Interview.m4a seth on gems

Have you been following this game at fucking all? Meter is where all your god damn damage comes from. Meter is incredibly important in this game. I don’t think you’ve been paying attention at all to this game.

you wanna talk about vague? Let’s talk about vague, this imaginary mixup situation you keep bringing up.

the situation you described above with Guile, EX moves are the only way a lot of people have in against characters like Sagat, Guile, Chun-Li, Dhalisim, etc. I would gladly take a single sonic boom than spend one of only 3 bars (which if I’m chasing one of these characters, chances are I don’t have 3 meters yet, I’d be damn fortunate to have 1. Forcing me to spend a meter that I desperately need in a situation where blocking is not the upmost concern, but getting in is. Being forced to block a Dhalism from full screen for a bar of meter would be a death sentence for many characters. who are struggling just to gather up a single bar to try and get in.

So you want to talk about vague, let’s talk about this all encompassing unspecified situation you constantly present where blocking is always my top concern.

You don’t understand balance do you? Nothing is high tier in concept, but based around the things in the game. Without a knowledge of the extent of the buffs and just what all these gems do, you can in no way say that something is going to be a sure fire pick. These buffs could very easily work in a way or have some so extreme and needed that this is a poor pick.

I was just telling you what was revealed about them since you didn’t seem to know about the exclusive gems. I can assure you they are not only aesthetic. If you want to get snarky and score points that’s up to you.

I’ve been following this game (didn’t I just correct you about one of the systems in a previous post?), you don’t seem to understand games full stop. Not just this one. You’re not getting it, and I can’t find a way to drive it home so I’ll be quiet about the gem from now on.

**Edit: **Can’t resist this though. Yes the relative strength of things in the game is based on other things, it is relative like you say. You’re ignoring the very basic system and goals of a fighting game though (and concentrating on the other system gimmicks and their relative value only). Relative to those, this effect is super strong.

You can? You have access to the game? You know what gems will be coming the pack?

Well. good god man! Tell us!!

Privileged information. Trust me there are exclusive gameplay gems. Don’t want to? Up to you. I’m giving you information, not arguing a point.

On the off chance you’re not being sarcastic: Sorry for assuming you are.
