Yeah but we can always have a patch or a new anti-tech for him with that many possibilities.
I think you should hope for the best, just because it’s much easier to drop a bad game than refusing to play a good one.

I don’t have a problem with that as long as there’s a cost and it’s not DLC/Pre-order/limited edition exclusive.
why are people talking in circles? no offense to all who this applies to but, seriously? wasnt the Auto block gem already discusses? its really simple it does not require a whole lot of thinking(by doing to your only confusing yourself and others) as it mite be one of those gems targeted towards causal gamers.
in a brief explanation of the Gem…again…If your are able to block(meaning if your not on recovery/hit stun) then the Gem will Activate upon the opponents attack and block it. if you are already holding down a direction to block a incoming attack, you will NOT activate the Gem. If the Gem Activates and blocks that single attack, its up to the player to continue to block or the Gem will re-activate.
I will give to examples on how this gem can be useful for the sake of argument, you decide if its cheap, broken, or not good.
Ibuki knocks down Raven with her Slicekicks, she goes for her kunai Vortex. Raven stands straight up and tries to block, hes holding back against Ibuki but the Kunai is crossing him up so the Gem Activates and Corrects his block by giving up 1 stock. Its up to Raven to block whats coming next if he doesnt have the meter to burn for the Gem to activate again.
the next example is with Ryu, Raven, and Yoshimitsu.
Ryu blocks Yoshi’s windmill so Yoshi tag cancels into Raven and he does his slide kick that hits low. Ryu can’t see the Slide so Gem activates blocking the slide for him. Raven Tag cancels to Yoshi and he does his overhead flipkick, Ryu was blocking low when the gem activated and he did not transitioned into a standing Guard, so he gets hit with the flipkick and possibly going into a full combo.
these are just some examples on how this gem would be used and how its not the best thing in the world
Pandora time gem x5
+2 seconds each gem.
18 seconds of Pandora.
Still lose the match with Pandora.
how do people know that 5 GEMS can be equipped at the same time. I swear I only seen 3 slots near the super bar
This game mechanic reminds of The Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros Brawl where you use stickers to power up your character. This gems mechanic looks interesting, I think people shouldn’t judge it without testing it first.
has nobody ever played dissidia? they had a gem system with accessorys and created uber broken moments where you had a hyper status at 1 hp and other crazy stuff.
knowing capcom and their love for comebacks I wouldnt be surprised if having low hp condition gems were busted.
also Gems are NOTHING LIKE GROOVES
grooves gave you a whole new meter, and mechanics such as parrying through the WHOLE MATCH or custom combo as your super. NOT lol I get to auto block for 10 seconds when I get hit twice.
I’ve been thinking maybe the more “useful” gems take up more slots like the Ratio system. Like, you could either choose between 5 minor power-ups or you could take up a bunch of slots for something like parry or dodge roll or the like.
Hey guys, I was super bored so I decided to make a super rough mockup of how the gem selection interface could potentially work. It’s mostly dumb and pointless, yes, but a lot of people have brought up concerns of how they’d have to set aside 2-3 minutes to select gems and so on, so I thought I’d try to envision things.
With that interface, the longest it would take to select a gem is roughly 2 button presses, and up to around 10 joystick clicks, and that’s pretty much worst case scenario. I imagine you won’t have too many builds that have 1 gem in each category perfectly spaced from each other, it’ll probably be common to have multiple gems in the same category, so that’ll shorten things. Let’s say a person knowing exactly what they’re going for takes about 1 second per 5 joystick clicks (in reality it would probably be faster, though) that would mean worst case scenario would be 2 seconds of joystick clicks per gem, for 10 gems through your character, meaning about 20ish seconds in a worst case scenario for gem selection. Assuming people have 3+ gems in the same category, and know the selection of them by heart, I imagine it’d be closer to 10 seconds for gem selection. That’s still a bit of time to add to each character selection time, sure, but certainly not 2-3 minutes.
This is all assuming of course that there’s not a ton of delay on the interface when picking/changing categories and things like that, if there is this could possibly take a few seconds longer.
I know this is probably dumb and pointless, but I personally find stuff like this interesting, so if you’re bored or find it interesting yourself feel free to comment on ways to elaborate/streamline this concept, or provide your own vision of how it may work. :]
UNLESS:
-Zangief
-Pandora Activated
-Spin the stick like a fiend + Mash Punches
-SPD Emergency
-MAYBE win :l
Ok this getting ridiculous…Mindless speculation with out the facts
dude, the last few pages have been about ONE FUCKING GEM. i think this thread has already gotten too ridiculous. best to take a wait and see approach as more previews of this game happen.
Great, now I want there to be a SWAT Mode in addition to Pandora…
I’m glad someone took my post as the joke it was
In the mix up or high/low assist situation the auto guard may kick in for one of the hits but Ultra David makes it sound like that will just kill the mix-up/high-low.
After the auto guard activates the person on the offensive will still have the advantage of being the one putting the pressure on… AND they’ll still have meter to play with while the autoguard gem player will not.
Plus as others have mentioned… it only blocks a single it. Mutli hitting moves mixups and high/lows are going to just as effective as ever. The Gem doesn’t sound that great to me and I don’t think it’s going to be used much. Meter is too important in this game.
It will be interesting to see how this game develops once it’s out in the wild.
The thing i have been thinking about are the gems that increase a characters speed. I just imagine Rufus dive kick pressure in SF4 and then I think what would happen if it was even faster… I;m keeping my eye out for the speed increase gems.
so that heads will stop bringing it up I just wanted to say:
people seem to forget that you cant get hit out of blockstun unless you get hit from an opposite direction (high vs. low or guard break/unblockable)
I doubt an autoguard feature will change that, whether or not it technically only auto blocks a single hit
this thread is really le poop
Honestly, I think auto guard should only activate if the stick is left at neutral. It’s purpose would be to defend against ambiguous cross-up situations, tight high/low mix-up, and possibly unblockables. At the same time, it won’t take too much reward away from footsies.
Auto throw tech shouldn’t ever exist though. Not having to worry about throws essentially means the only two things you ever have to worry about getting hit by during mix-up are overheads and command throws.
Damn Capcom…I’m trying to like this game, and you just seem to be doing everything in your power to stop that from happening. This gem bullshit sounds so awful. Mostly because half the gems sound like they’re designed for the sole purpose of letting poor players not have to…actually learn how to play fighting games. Can’t block for shit? Choose a gem! Can’t tech throws (despite throws having horrid range and a really long tech window in this game)? Here’s a fucking gem for that too. Damn. It’s almost awe-inspiring how unaware Capcom is that they’re ruining a potentially great game with all this superfluous garbage.
Could be worse. It could always be SSF4 on DS. The game where you have autoblock while walking forward and you only take a bit of grey damage. Then again, you can’t really block things on reaction in that game so there’s that.
The way the Gem’s been described? Yeah it will. Multi-hit moves will not matter unless they are extremely fast, at least the speed of Yoshimitsu’s spin. Hitstop alone means you will get the opportunity to block even multi-hitting normals and specials.
Edit: Oh, not only if they are extremely fast, but also if they do barely any blockstun at all. You can’t get hit while still in blockstun from a move unless the block is in the wrong direction. For multi-hitting moves, that doesn’t even apply.
Are you saying the gem isn’t so bad because since a person failed to hit you once because of gem activation, *they can always hit you again? *You still avoided eating a full combo off of that hit at the low, low, low cost of 1 bar. The game has chains and tag combos, normals lead to big damage in every single build of the game. I’ll ask you the same question I asked someone else: Would you rather eat a combo or lose 1 bar?
Once again, a single hit in a game with chains, crazy tag team supers and a whole load of other stuff. Seriously I’m beginning to get worried here, is 1 bar of meter more important than health? You were saying how you were sure anyone concerned about the gem wasn’t really into fighting games right? It’s kind of ironic I’m beginning to get the same impression here. I’m not saying it’s true, but really I haven’t seen a single good point why this gem (the way it has currently been shown and described) is not powerful. It’s so powerful in this state it will define the game, it will be a must-have gem around which the game works. Only extremely quirky builds would exclude it. This seems very obvious to me.
How is it ridiculous to talk about a feature that has been described already, that seems to be of some concern? Would you rather we talk about the unrevealed gems? This is the Gem system thread after all, what else do you want to talk about? Also, what’s the harm in talking about it? Are the game’s feelings going to get hurt if we don’t wait and see?
