That is not how it works my friend.
If you ran a company that way, you will be out of bussines rather quickly.

Any business, be games, music, food, etc, runs on the same economic principles.
Your goal is to have a certain margin of profits that allows for a growth.

When you make a product, all the costs of it are already being taken into account when you set the price.

Also, keep in mind that games are not made in a vacuum.
You can recycle, engines, code, assets.
All of that helps to reduce the costs of the game.

Also, game companies run multiple projects at times, so their proffit margin allows them to make new projects.

Without the intention to offend, but it sounds like you have a barely passing on economics, project management and other stuff by the way you make excuses of why they need DLC to make profit.

Also, i am sure that no one is against companies making bank with their games.
The problem is the predatory ways they go to do it, and how they manage to create a narrative to justifie them.

One thing that i will give in though, is that many gamers are completely missinformed on how projects management works, and is why they tend to think that DLC work should be put on the base game if is near completition. Without understanding how budget placement works in the projects.

Then be thankful the only things they are working on are just video games.

IIRC, Capcom works in a comitee way.
So in their case, yes, they actually go to a room to discuss how a character will play and how it should work.
Keep in mind that SFV is a game designed to work in a certain way, decided by the upper echelons based on market tests and planning.

They need to adhere to the plan.

I just wish developers would cut the bullshit when it comes to stuff like " we are in touch with the community and are listening to feedback". Because it’s clearly not happening.

In this day and age feedback can be given and received with a lot of ease. Capcom has all the information it needs to see what Characters are over performing and under performing.

Game looks great. I wish a new a Final Fight looked like that, and not all crappy like the latest Stryder did but Capcom will probably try to replicate that.

As Jim Sterling points out, the problem is that video game companies don’t just want to make money, they want to make all of the money.

To discuss sure. But do you actually think that they spend legitimate time in said committee showing off both testing and actual gameplay of each V-Trigger? Personally I doubt it. And honestly if I’m wrong, then that’s even MORE reason why no one should want Capcom to do an FG for another 5 years. Because it would mean they sat together, watched people use those V-Triggers and say everything is fine iwth them.

The thing is that listening to feedback doesnt mean that you will have an inmediate answer, or that the feedback will be taken into consideration if it goes against their vision.

They very likely do check social media, forums, their own statistics from the CFN, and take it into account, but they will obviously filter it based on their own plans.

For example, they probably buff and nerf based on both the event results and the online data they gather.
But their reasoning doesnt necesarily is tied on what the community ask.
The probably buff and nerf based in thinks like how popular is the char, based on how many people use it.

Soi this could make a feedback loop where a char is not used because is weak, but is not buffed as needed because the char is not used, for example.

That is to say, is placebo gambling worth it?

Oh, I’m not saying to buy expensive games or anything. Hell being a former developer (App developer), I’ll tell you there’s a heck of a lot of man power being wasted on game development because of mismanagement. At no point in time should a game need 1000 people working on it (Assassins Creed). At the same time, game’s have become far more complex than before and even in an ideal development situation (Proper management, little bugs, QA went well, etc) the time to develop a game is going to be much larger. It’s why DLC needs to exist, to reinvest into your next game and stay profitable. The problem is EA and Activision. They just leech off of their whales. They don’t reinvest into new games.

Yes, that’s how it does work. The former head of Sony’s games studios, Shu Yoshida, said that very few of their games are profitable. “It’s a hit-driven business. We look at our financial results of the titles, and probably three or four out of ten make money, and maybe one or two make all the money to cover the cost of the others titles” The titles that are profitable, have to eat up the budget of the games that lost money. It’s like that with all publishers (Maybe not Nintendo, I don’t think they release games that sell poorly). You can’t just assume every game makes its budget back. It’s also why I mentioned that I have no idea how the game industry is still going.

Rashid doesn’t even make sense to me. But he is up there with FANG in characters mean to play some game other than Street Fighter. Mad goofy designs.
